April 3 - 8 @ the Orleans
This was a birthday trip for me. A more laid back trip than some in the past. Planned to not push to do as much and spend more time gambling. Also lazing around the casino and in the room reading.
Will just hit the high points.
Flight was with SW and great as usual.
Hotel
Stayed at the Orleans on a an combination of two offers 2 nights comped and 3 nights for $94 with tax and resort fee. Based upon a suggestion from the forum I asked for a room on the 20th or 21st floors ($20 tip) and got room 2183 facing the mountains. It was recently renovated. Same layout as the older rooms just nicer with new carpeting, fixtures and furniture. Bed was great and very comfortable, quite up on the top floor and they put out free copies of USA Today in the lobby by the elevators on this floor.
Was very pleased with my stay at the Orleans, all of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Like it's location as it's convenient to the strip and downtown.
Food
Usually eat a big breakfast or brunch and then something lighter for dinner.
On first night decided to use a $10 credit from Orleans at Canal Street Grill at the O and would give it 3.5 forks The bread basket was average, service was very good but overall nothing special about the steak or sides for what it cost.
Went to the breakfast buffet at the Cosmopolitan 3.5 forks twice ($18.38). Around 9:00 both times It had a lot of neat and unusual food items. Panini sandwiches, pork shoulder eggs Benedict in little iron skillets, etc. Liked that they bring a large glass bottle of water for you to refill your own water.
Severs were friendly but kind of unorganized. My biggest complaint is food was cold or dried out and should have been pulled and replaced. The apple and chicken sausages were so dried up they had shriveled up.
Overall they are off to an interesting start but have some issues. I felt I got my money's worth and enjoyed it even with the problems. Also there wasn't a line either day another plus.
Did the Bellagio Breakfast buffet (10:45) and the M lunch buffet and they were excellent as usual. 4 forks
Had heard good things about the MSS buffet so decided to try it. Guess my standards are different from the people raving about it. Didn't expect fancy but did expect it to meet a certain level of
quality. Found the food nasty, watery rubbery scrambled eggs, funky bacon and slow service. I would rate it about 1.5 forks way worse than a Golden Corral or Furrs.
Had two coupons for Fuddruckers one groupon and one they sent me for my birthday because I signed up for their club. Orleans also gave out a nice coupon pack with 10 or 15% coupons to Fuddruckers,
Subway, Sbarro , etc.
Fuddruckers was great, enjoyed both hamburgers 4 forks and wanted to try their breakfast sandwiches but never got a chance. Chicken strips 1 fork sucked stay away from them.
Sbarro 4 forks and Subway 3 forks were fine also.
Gambling
Used the MRB $50 for $40 chip offer at the Sahara, rude BJ dealer who grunted and pointed. Didn't seem to speak English. Lost 5 of 6 hands enough of that for me. Cage let me buy some chips as souvenirs. They are selling a $2.50 chip that they produced just for the closing.
I am a low roller but Boyd has always been very generous so I decided to concentrate my VP play with them. Lost $400 on various LWDW and NSUD at Orleans and some at Gold Coast MSS and California. Had trouble finding the games listed on VPFree so made do with the best I could find.
Loved the atmosphere at the California and plan to return there seemed less smoky and like the theme.
Played BJ a few hours downtown at Binions lost about $250. But I always get a lot of pleasure from playing with Maya, Torry, Alex and the rest of the girls. Love the outfits and having friendly outgoing dealers. Won't put up with surly dealers even if I could get better rules.
Thanks to Westie for all the pointers I got from his reports.
Well that's pretty much it, hope it helps someone else in planning there trip to Vegas.
