Bobby's 77th

Players Bobby (BW) Retired 10 years (Insurance Exec.) 77 years old, Martie (MJ) WC Adjuster on sabatical. This is our first trip of 2017 after 5 in 2016, went to Laughlin, Wendover and 3 times to Vegas.

Friday 2/10/17

We took a taxi to the airport with our favorite cabbie, Marilyn. We checked our luggage in at Frontier and security was a breeze as we both had TSAPre. We were looking to have a beer or drink but all of the bars were packed as usual so we wondered to Gate 3A for departure. MJ meets and talks to a group of ladies (9) from Hondo, Tx who were going to Vegas to help their sister to help with her floral shop for the Valentine Holiday. These ladies were staying a Palace Station and we enjoyed our conversation with them.

The jetway for Gate 3A was the longest that I have ever seen or experienced. Possibly five or six times longer than the normal jetway. We left on time 10:10 pm. and arrived at Gate 26 Terminal 3 at 11:00 p.m. or ten minutes early. We then walked approximately 3/4 mile to the Tram. We took the Tram and then walked and additional 3/4 mile to the baggage area. We met Joe our limo. driver with Personal Sedan who drives us to the Golden Gate arriving approx. 11:45 p.m. At check in we confirmed that we had a suite confirmed comped for four nights with two additional nights for $60.00 per night. No resort fees (more about that later). We went to our room on the 4th Floor the Dean Martin Suite Room No. 42. It was very nice. We dropped our luggage and went to the bar for drink and gaming. The Casino is very busy and insanely loud. Our bartenders for the night are Christal, Martie and Billy. During the evening Billy entertained everyone with all of his dancing moves.

We went to the room at 3:00 a.m. For the evening BW hit four 6's $.50 DD. MJ nothing.

Saturday 2/11/17

Happy 77th Birthday Bobby! Wow!! It is amazing I made it this long considering the way I abused my body in my 30's and 40's, but MJ has taken care of me quite well in the last 20 plus years. We got up at 7:30 a.m. had coffee and breakfast bars in the room. We left the room at 10:00 a.m. and had our traditional Bloody Mary at the bar at the Golden Gate with Luis our new favorite bartender, super nice young man. We went to McDonalds at the "D" for breakfast then off to Walgreens for our snacks and supplies and went back the Gate. Since this is our first full day for gambling we hit it hard gambling at Golden Gate and the "D". We had drinks and gambled all day, what a fun time. We watched two neat light shows and went back to our room at 8 p.m. for snacks and rest. For the day BW four 6's $.50 DD, MJ four 6's $.50 DD, four 4's $.50 DD, four 10's $.25 DD, four 10's $.50 DD, four 5's $.50 DD, four aces $.25 DD. No big hits all day long on slots. The weather was cold and breezy all day long.

Sunday 2/12/17

We were up at 7:00 a.m. for coffee and bars in the room. BW out of room at 10:00 a.m. MJ joined him at 11:00 a.m. We gambled at the Gate, Four Queens, the "D", Binions and Golden Nugget. We had a comped meal at the "D" Grill. BW shrimp pesto pasta, MJ pasta and meatballs we also had a late afternoon meal at Binions , cheeseburgers. BW asked the waitperson if Clancy a long time cook was still there and was advised that he is now cooking in the employee's cafeteria. We watched another light show featuring all types of planes and space shuttles. Downtown again was very crowded and the weather was mild and windy.

BW four 10's $.50 DD, and another four 10's $.50 DD , four 2's with a kicker "A" for $.25 DD ($220.00), MJ won $1040.00 on penny slot Triple Double Diamond on the second floor at the "D". MJ got $100.00 credit at the gift shop at the Queen and scored six tee shirts 4 mens and 2 womens. Saw three of our favorite bartenders at the "D". We then went back to the room at 8:00 p.m.

Monday, 2/13/17

We were up at 7: 30 a.m. for coffee and bars in the room. Gambled at the Gate, "D", Plaza and the Grand. Beautiful day but a poor day for gambling. Ate pizza at the Plaza. Plaza and the Grand had very few gamblers playing. Returned to the Gate and up to the room at 8:00 p.m. BW had four queens $.50 DD, MJ four 9's $.50 DD, four 3's $.50 DD.

Tuesday, 2/14,2017 and Wednesday 2/15/2017

Happy Valentines Day Everyone! We were up at 7:00 a.m. coffee and bars. Picked up boarding passes Terminal 3 Gate D16 both TSAPre seats 6E and 6F We gambled at the Gate, "D" and Four Queens. FUN TRIP VIVA LAS VEGAS!

Thoughts about Trip:

Frontier Airlines. We saved $150.00 and possibly could have saved more on the flight however it was the most uncomfortable seats we have ever had and the times are terrible leaving Austin at 10:00 p.m. and leaving Vegas at 12:45 am. There was very long walks on jetway in Austin and to the Tram in Vegas and from the Tram to the baggage area. Terminal 3 is very empty, large and loud. There was no free snacks or drinks on Frontier Airlines.

Las Vegas Advisor booklet. We used five $10.00 free slot play and that more than paid for the annual purchase fee.

Boothlings at all Casinos were almost rude and not very helpful. You had to specifically ask for free play, free food or other comps. All Casinos could use major improvement in this area.

Golden Gate. Room 42 Dean Martin Suite, Fantastic...Loved it! Maid service great. Dupars being closed was a super downer.

Drink service bartenders and cocktail waitresses at all Casinos was fair.

Food. As mentioned in the past we are not foodies so simple is good, food was okay only paid for two meals, but charging $3.50 for tea is absurd.

Downtown. We love it. Easy walking, gambling is better than the Strip.

Limo. Good

Gambling. Fair. We came home with one half our gambling budget. We only had a few hits on Slots. Video Poker was fair. BW was dealt -0- four to the Royal. MJ only had four. While some people might not agree with me, neither of us has hit a Royal Flush since Nov. 12, 2015. We have been on seven gambling trips since that time. I firmly believe that the Casinos have tightened the Royals. We say no hand pays on our last trip and only a few in the last three trips to Vegas.

Las Vegas. VIVA LAS VEGAS! Love it! We will return ASAP will NOT fly Frontier and will probably stay at the "D" and the Flamingo. More than likely a 7 night stay.

Big Lars, we said hello to Valeria for you she smiled and said "he's something".

Thanks for reading

Happy belated birthday BW! My brother flies Frontier out of Denver and had mentioned how uncomfortable the seats are and they charge you everything, but it's cheap.
Thanks for the report, we fly out of ABIA on Friday afternoon for our 10th anniversary trip.
Bobby , great report . I understand your concern about Frontier . My group flies out of Orlando , and some years ago , we flew Frontier . Its 5 hour flight , and they take you to their hub in Denver , and there is a 2 to 3 hour layover making the trip 7 to 8 hours . That eats into your gambling time . We learned our lesson , and now fly Southwest only . We get nonstop out and back with great times . We are going to Vegas this Saturday , and leave Orlando at 9 A.M. and get to Vegas at 11:15 , so we can gamble all day . The price is right--round trip , nonstop , for $ 311 . We are downtown trolls and you are correct about the LVA coupon book . There are about 6 $10 free play coupons good for downtown casinos , which more than pays for the book .I was curious about MJ hitting the triple diamond penny slot for $ 1040 . It was good to come in under the radar of a W2-G--- did she hit 2 triple diamonds and a red 7 ? I like to see pics of gambling hits , especially 4 OAK payouts . Thanks again for a great trip report . Hi Bobby and Martie,

Thanks for the report as well as for your trip results. Coming back home with half of your gaming budget I think is not bad at all!

As for the LVA Members' Rewards Book, it's pretty easy to get good value out of that book since it takes basically the judicious use of as little as a few coupons to help to make the book end up paying for itself.

As for Downtown LV (Fremont Street casinos), I'm happy that you took my earlier advice regarding coming downtown for the easier walking around as well as for the better (higher returning) gaming!

As for Video Poker, the Royal Flush cycle really does depend on the game and pay schedule that you are playing on. You may be able to get more information about this kind of stuff (Video Poker machine returns)through the Wizard Of Odds website.

For example, although with 9/6 Jacks Or Better, the Royal Flush cycle is about 1 in 40,400 hands, with the game 10/7 Double Bonus Poker, the Royal Flush cycle goes up to about 1 in 48,000 hands and so the cycle for what you're mostly playing now may be higher than that 1 in 40,400 hands average cycle.

And now since I've noticed that all of your reported play was on Double Deuces (I think that's what the DD that you have listed means), since that is a more volatile game, I'm sure that the Royal Flush cycle is a lot higher than the one in 40,400 hands that it is in 9/6 Jacks Or Better. So please take that into consideration!

Check with at least a Video Poker training program about the Royal Flush cycle for Double Deuces (especially with whatever pay schedule it is that you have been playing on -- remember that the numbers on each paying hand on the pay schedules that machines offer do matter in what not only the game's return is but how volatile the game is and what the Royal Flush cycle is).

I hope that this helps you.

Thanks everyone for your comments TECramer Frontier you get what you pay for, Good luck on your trip enjoy your 10th, look forward to your super Trip Report holstein as mentioned Frontier is what it is, yes MJ's hit was triple diamond, triple diamond, red 7, she was playing a penny slot but was playing 5 cents & max credits 180 for a $9 total which is unusual for her, Good luck on your Saturday trip to Vegas win tons of $$$ & write a trip Report. Rec VPPlayer the LVA booklet is helpful & would be more if I played more table games, as usual your advises are always spot on.
Happy Birthday, Bobby, and thank you for the excellent TR. I can't recall my last Royal Flush in Vegas...many trips, 2-3 years...very tight VP everywhere. I'd pay a bit more for a comfortable non-stop flight with good hours, which is what we get with Southwest. The flight TO Vegas is an exciting part of the trip; coming back, not so much, LOL.
BW---Congratulations on your birthday celebration in Vegas! Looks like you pounded out quite a few Quads to keep you "in the game", too bad you didn't hit a Royal. Glad you liked the Golden Gate suite; they are a real upgrade from their regular rooms. Thanks for checking in with Valeria for me..I'm sure that she will have a Heineken or two waiting for me when I return in April.
