Update on BW & MJW. We sold our house in South Austin on November 2017 for $240,000 that we bought in May of 2003 for $110,000, we bought a two bedroom cottage in Smithville, Texas for $160,000 paying cash. Austin population is 930,000 and growing, Smithville population is 4,000 and is 45 miles SE of Austin, 120 miles NW of Houston and 103 miles NE of San Antonio. BW lived in austin since 1959 MJW since 1965.
Sunday, Feb. 11
Happy 78th Birthday to BW, BB picked us up in Smithville at 5PM and we dine at the Tex Mex El Mexicana Restaurant in Smithville, food is good as is the Margaritas. We arrived 6PM at South Terminal Bergstrom Austin. (more about the south termial at the end of this report). We had drinks and snacks in the terminal, board plane Allegiant Air outdoors like in 1960, seats 24A & C, plenty of leg room. We left 5 minutes late. We had drinks on the plane, bourbon & coke for BW and beer for MJW, tip $10 bill smiles all around getting in the Vegas mood. Plan 2/3 full, some chop on flight. Arrived at Gate A-12 twenty minutes early more good vibes. Hit the bathrooms and walked slowly to baggage area, Mac the lemo driver greets us and drives us by way of the freeway. We dropped BB off at the California and BW and MJW at The D, $20 tip more smiles, smooth check in more tips, up to room 0302, nice and quick. We unpacked and sprayed the room with Lysol. Went to the casino, Vue Bar on Floor 2. Jason one of our favorite bartenders is working. BW & MJW gamble and drink until 4:30 AM and then went to the room. Viva Las Vegas. One big win $400 hit on the Buffalo machine. Still smiles.
Monday, Feb. 12
Up early at 8 AM, pick up coffee at coffee bar near the elevator, (more info at end of report) coffee and breakfast bars in the room, out of room at 10:45 AM, bloody mary's at Vue Bar gambled and then to the D Gril for late breakfast, BW eggs & bacon, MJW eggs & Sausage. Gambling this day was at the D. BW shot craps with BB for 2 hours on a $5 table, BW broke even, BB up $500., Super fun. BW & MJW played video poker the rest of the day. At late afternoon meal at the D Grill, BW turkey club, MJW baked Salmon. Up to the room at 9 PM tired but happy. Big wins for the day BW 4 Jacks.25 double double. MJ 4 8's and Aces with a kicker double double and we won $255 on buffalo machine.
Tuesday, Feb. 13
Up at 7:30 AM, talked to BB on phone he is leaving this morning. He was up over $500. for trip playing Craps. Pick up coffee at elevator coffee bar, Ate breakfast bars. Bloody Mary's at 4 Queens. Gambled at the D, 4 Queens, Golden Nugget and Golden Gate. Dean neat bartender at the 4 Queens. We ate late breakfast at Magolias at the Queen, BW eggs and pancakes, MJW Eggs and corned beef hash. We ate Dinner at the D. Grill, BW Shrimp, MJW baked Salmon. UP to the room at 9 PM. Big wins for the day BW 4 J's .25 double double, MJW 4 J's, 4 Aces with a kicker, 4 10's, 4 5's, 4 8's and $100.00 on slot.
Wednesday, Feb. 14
Up at 8 AM, picked up coffee and Sausage, egg, McMuffins at McDonalds we ate i the room, out of the room at 11 AM bloody mary's and gamble at D Vue Bar. Ate hot dogs at the D American Coney Island. (buy 1 get 1 free thanks to Las Vegas Advisor book) Gambled at the D, 4 Queens during the day. Up to room at 9 PM. Big win for the day, BW 4 K's .25 double double at 4 Queens MJW 4 10's .50 DD, 4 3's .25 DD. Usually this would be the end of out daily report but our neighbors on the 3rd floor evidently male, sang over & over Tom Jones big hit Delliah, irritating at first then became humorous later and What made them choose this particular song" Strange!!
Thursday, Feb. 15
The next to last day in Vegas is always melancholy for us. Up at 7:30 AM coffee and Mcmuffins from McDonalds. We ate in the room. Out of the room at 10:30 AM, bloody mary's at the Vue Bar. Gambled at the D & 4 Queens. Ate sandwiches at the D Grill. Big wins for day BW 4 A's .25 DD, MJW 4 7's .50 DD and $150.00 on Sharknado slot. up to the room at 8 PM.
Friday, Feb. 16
Up early at 6 AM, picked up coffee at lobby and had bars in room. Gambled at the D. I grew up on Krystal burgers thought that White Castle was the same, tried them not good, UGH!!! Personal Sedan picked us up at noon headed for airport, they continue to impress me. Check in Ok, but TSA at the gate was a disaster, won't try to explain but it was the worst we have ever seen and BW has been flying over 60 years. Left on time arrived on time, super choppy flight, shuttle from south terminal to main terminal catch super shuttle to home in Smithville arrieved at 9:30 PM. Miss Vegas already.
Thoughts & comments:
$404 for 2 on Allegiant, nice price
South Terminal at Bergstrom, Austin, pros not crowded, close but not covered parking $8 or $16 beverages and food, cons have to shuttle to main terminal to get to any shuttles, employees at south terminal were rude, will still use if the price is right.
Room 0302 at The D, nice, convenient comp'd. Nice Coffee Bar.
Received $300 in free slots $200 free food only paid rull price on food at White Castle.
Saw Derick Stevens three times in the casino, he spoke and smiled.
A lady from Minn, Mary had good luck totaling hand pays of $11,000.
Employees & Guests excited about the hockey team Golden Knights
Gambling on video poker & slots was terrible, came back with 30% of gambling budget, we need to play more table games and less VP and Slots.
Fantstic bargenders Jason, Antuan, Rafael, Roger, Dean, Overcash. Big Ray security also.
Good trip, super enjoyed except for gambling.
Already planning next trip. Maybe for Kentucky Derby, first Saturday in May or for our Anniversary the last week in September.
