My wife and I visited Vegas Sunday, Feb. 10 – Friday, Feb.15th. We had a business conference at MGM Grand Monday-Wednesday and then moved to the Paris Hotel for the remainder of the trip. The hotels were fine but we didn’t spend much time in the rooms. Although we stayed at MGM during the majority of our stay, we mostly played at Paris, Ballys, and the Flamingo.
After dinner on Tuesday with my boss at Spice Market Buffet, located in Planet Hollywood and definitely not recommended, we decided to walk over to Ballys and play BJ. I was hoping for a $5 table but we ended up at $10 table, and we were up and down for about 1.5 hours that night. We enjoyed the dealers and music but finally decided to leave when a loud mouth drunk sat down at our table. I had not played 3-card poker on the trip yet, so we stopped in Paris for a quick game on a $5 table. I really like the excitement of the new 6 card bonus bet and it has a lot of payout options. Three hands into the game I had hit 3 pairs in a row and was feeling lucky. Staying on that trend, my fourth hand revealed yet another pair (two fours); the dealer then turned over her hand also revealing two fours resulting in a “4 of a Kind” in the 6 card bonus bet!!!!! That was a nice 50-1payout and we both jumped up with excitement. Once the pit boss gave us clearance on the win, my wife and I walked away more than doubling our money in about 3 minutes. This was too cool and as we walked back to the MGM Grand for the night we thought it would be the highlight of the trip. Little did we know what was about to happen.
Wednesday was our day to check out of the MGM Grand move over to Paris. I pulled the “$20 trick” upon check-in and mentioned we were visiting for my 30th birthday. After seeing the cash tip the clerk was very happy to find us an upgrade and we did not have to pay an early check in fee. She thought it would be cute to put us on the 30th floor for my 30th birthday, so that’s where we were headed. Little did we know this room, number 3096, had a direct view to the Eiffel Tower and Paris pool while also overlooking the Bellagio fountains. This was a great start to the non-business part of our trip and we would highly recommend that room for the view. Earlier in the week I decided to email the General Manager of HYDE, located at Bellagio, to get a table for drinks prior to the Cirque du Soleil’s “O” show. We were treated like VIP at HYDE and they provided us with the best table which over looked the Bellagio fountains during sunset. I highly recommend checking this bar out if you have never been there. Go from 5-7 while all of the Vegas lights are coming on; it was magical and will be sure to please. More excitement, we mentioned to our waitress that the General Manger promised a round of drinks for my birthday. Little did we know that our entire drink bill would be comped! This was a great surprise, and it will probably never happen again in our lives. For once, we felt like” high rollers” and got VIP treatment. Cirque du Soleil’s “O” show was simply amazing and the best show we have seen in Vegas. There are not bad seats anywhere in this Bellagio show arena and this is a must see!!!!
On Thursday we decided to rent a car and go Downtown to check out Fremont and all that comes with it. Being mostly down for the day, we walked into the Golden Gate to look for a $5 table. After a 3 hour session my wife and I walked out from our $100 buy-in with $400 in our pocket. This was our first real heater and we enjoyed the nice dealers and nice people Downtown. We would recommend a trip Downtown; it’s a different experience from the strip and the old Vegas lights were quite the site to see.
Thursday’s night plan was to go to the Flamingo, check out the new décor and hopefully find a decent BJ table. We could never find 2 open seats together on a 3-2 BJ table so we settled for a $5 3-card poker table. After 30 minutes of playing my wife hit a straight flush($300), and then 5 minutes later we both hit a straight flush on the same exact deal!! Black chips were everywhere on our table and we were going nuts! I had never heard or seen anything like this, and the dealer and pitboss confirmed that they had never seen during their experience in Vegas. After a few more good hands and good payouts from the 6 card bet bonus, we decided to cash out and realized we had turned our $200 buy-in into $1,100 dollars. Not a bad way to end the trip!! Neither one of us had ever walked away holding a $500 chip, but we decided to take this opportunity to skip the purple chip and took a $1K chip towards the cashier’s cage. We were certainly on cloud 9 after that big win and left Vegas with positive money!
What a great way to spend Valentine’s and my birthday in Vegas. We had a great time and have some fun stories to tell from this trip!
