December 28: We slept in a little, then loading up our stuff to head up Hwy 95 to Las Vegas. We had free play at the Colorado Belle that we needed to use before we left. Kim had $10 and I had $5. We both sit down at the Joker’s Wild. Kim actually finished ahead making $13. I finished even at $5. We then went over to the Edgewater to use our food vouchers at their buffet. We had $20 worth of coupons so we figured it would cover the breakfast buffet. We weren’t thinking about it being Sunday, so they were actually charging $15 for their champagne brunch. I had enough comp credits on my card to cover the rest. The brunch was very good and they still had some crab legs from the prior night for an added bonus. We finished stuffing ourselves then headed up the mountain to Las Vegas.
We decided to check into our rooms at the Gold Coast first. I’ve been going to Las Vegas at least once a year and often three times a year since 1996 and had never stayed at the Gold Coast. I that the rooms were small but rather nice. I liked the showers and how they were designed. We got the rooms at $21 a night which was okay.
Our next destination was South Point. We decided to use the ACG coupon that for 300 points we get a free buffet. We found some nickel single play that had 7-5 bonus. I ended up $18 down and Kim ended up $14 down once we hit the 300 point mark. We went and got our buffet vouchers, the cost of the dinner buffet that evening was $16 so we basically broke even on the promotion. It was around 4:15 and we weren’t hungry yet, plus we had plans so we decided we would eat later for dinner.
Our plans were that we had tickets to “All Shook Up” at the V Theater at the Planet Hollywood. I bought the tickets for $20 each on Groupon and they were $60 each on their website. We walked ¾ of the miracle mile to get to the V Theater. The lady tried to talk us into VIP tickets with a $20 a ticket upgrade. We refused, she said we might have to sit towards the back, we said that was fine. We waited in line and finally got to go in. We started dying laughing upon entering the theater. There was only five rows in the theater. The “VIP’s” where two rows in front of us. The guys who played Elvis was great. He played for about 40 minutes and then took a break. The guy who was the MC came out and did an excellent job impersonating several different stars. Elvis then came back out in a white jump suit and sang his newer stuff. The show was about an hour and a half. It was worth $20 per ticket, but the face value of $60 seems too steep.
We headed back out to the South Point after the show to enjoy the buffet. It was very good with lots of variety. We finished off our meal and headed back to the Gold Coast. It was a little after 10 and they were offering 15x points on penny slots. We decided to try $20 each on the penny slots. We both lasted about 45 minutes before we were broke and decided to call it a night. On the way to bed, I looked over at the high limit area and saw a lady in a wheel chair playing the triple plays. I wondered if she was "Dee", Stungazied wife from all his trip reports. I thought about going in and asking, but I chickened out.
