December 29: I woke up around 7 and tried and tried to go back to sleep. I finally got up and took a shower and heading down to play while Kim slept in a little longer. I sit down at some triple play nickels at the Gold Coast and played some 9-6-5 double bonus. I quickly blew through $40 not hitting a single four of a kind. I said forget this and jumped in the car to head over to the Orleans.
The Orleans was giving away desert trays for 300 point on their cards for the day. I sit down at the triple play nickel progressives that have 9-7-5 double bonus. I love these machines and have hit 3 different royals through the years on these. I hit quad 4’s early on to put me into the positive. I would hover to just below my buy-in then hit another quad to put me ahead. This trend continued on until I had 300 points on my card and my wife’s card. She texted then to say she was up. It was still too early to pick of the desert trays so I headed back to the room.
She was hungry so we decided to head back to the Orleans to eat her favorite. She loves the nachos at the Cantina Express. We walked over and she was devastated. It looked like not only were they closed, but it looked like on a permanent basis. She reluctantly went back to Fudrucker’s and we ordered their nachos. We used points to pay for the meal. After we ate we went to play a little more. I went back to the triple plays and Kim went to some single line nickels. I went up and down, but eventually lost $47 before Kim called it quits herself. She lost $20 playing video poker then $20 more playing her sworn of slots.
It was time for us to head to the Stratosphere. We had reservations for 3:30 at the Top of the World restaurant. We set reservations for that time so we could still order off of the lunch menu. It cost almost twice the lunch price for the same item on the dinner menu. I also had a restaurant.com voucher for $25 off our meal. This along with the free trip up the tower is a good play. This is the 2nd time we have done this. If you are there in the winter, it is also dark by the time you finish your meal so you can take pictures of the lights. I ordered a beef type meal with poached eggs on top. My wife ordered a $24 cheese burger. Both meals were great and we were stuffed by the time we finished. We went up top above the restaurant and took some pictures. It was a great experience even though we’ve done it before.
We then headed over to the Riviera to use the ACG coupon for two free tickets to the comedy club. We went to the box office to use the coupons and the lady said they were sold out. I started to walk away when she started laughing and said she was kidding. We always buy two American Casino Guides and have used both coupons the last four years. Never has the comedy club been close to being sold out, so I shouldn’t have fallen for it. I can’t remember the name of the comedians, but they were both extremely funny. The first comedian made a joke about Florida being a dumb state. He said that Florida is Arkansas with beaches. He then said he had some folks from Arkansas and he said that Arkansas was 50th in education. The folks replied at least were not last. Kim and I laughed really hard on that one. In the meet and greet after the show we told the comedian we were both from Arkansas and educators. He died laughing from that.
We did play a little at the Rivera before the show since we thought it started at 8:00 and started at 8:30 instead. Kim actually managed to win $30 in a China Slot and I won $5 on a nickel video poker machine. The funny thing is I told her I didn’t want to gamble any on the strip, and there we are finally cashing out a little ahead after many losing sessions elsewhere.
We were still full of energy so we decided to head out to Sam’s Town and play a little since they have 9X points for today and 10x for tomorrow. There is a set of triple play 10 coin 2 cent machines that have a progressive and 9-6-5 double bonus that I like to play there. I was dealt 4 to a royal last summer in diamonds and hit on two of the lines for a $350 win. (Can you see the trend, an awesome summer which I didn’t write a report about following by a Christmas trip that is making me Kranky….) We played a little over two hours and hit a few quads here and there. We finally quit around 1:00 AM. I was down $10 and Kim was down $8.
