downtown, Boulder HWY and Linda's first royal

SATURDAY

The Plaza was having a deal, free slot tournament with only 25 points earned, so we played that every day. Some nice perks, you get $5 FP if your final score has two 2s in it, or $10 if it has three 3s. The last day, I had a lousy score (couldn’t come back for the finals anyway), had like 3383 points with 45 seconds left, stopped hitting the button and promptly got a remarkably stern lecture by the otherwise really nice, friendly staff. I was asked (rhetorically, I think) if that sort of dishonesty and shame and that sort of a black mark on my immortal soul was really worth five dollars. So I just kind of tried to look ashamed, looked at the floor for a while and started hitting the button again. Thanks for reading!

At least from what I'm seeing from Plaza's website, it supposedly still takes 50 points earned to qualify for playing in the tournament which runs from 10am to 8 pm daily.

For $500, I hope it came in a frosted glass. Yeah, that always sucks.

Rec, I hadn't looked on the Plaza website, not sure how long the tourney is going to cost only 25 points (you also get an entry for just staying in the hotel). It's a hell of a deal, though, especially with the FP available ($5 FP for two 2s in your final score, $10 for three 3s, $15 for over 4000 points, some free food for over 5000).

Jon
Great report! I think we had a similar experience at the Fitz. We each ordered the free steak with the 4 of a kind coupon. When we went to pay, she would only let us use one of the free steak coupons because they were both in my name. It didn't matter that we have a joint account.
Did they let you use three at a time with your name on all of them? If so, how did you convince them to go along with this?

Thanks,

Dave
Yeah, Dave, exactly the same problem. I just yelled a little bit, told them that neither the slot personnel, the signage over the machines, nor the vouchers said anything about not being able to use multiple vouchers for different people. The waitress talked to the restaurant manager who said, "just this once," and I thanked the manager.

Pain in the ass, really.

And Rec, I do enjoy those Multistrike machines. Very volatile but lots of fun. The DB machines at the El are all coindroppers, aren't they? And do you know offhand if they give full points?

Oops, I missed this comment earlier!

Anyway, the DB are coin droppers. I don't mind that much -- it's like old times which I don't mind reliving.

I did have an incident once with them where I could not get the bill acceptor to work and so since I still wanted to play it, I had to get rolls of Quarters to insert.

As for your question about whether the 10/7 DB machines give full points, I think that they are $3 per point. And I still don't mind them for a diversion. And it makes it better when you can apply the 5X points offers that I get from the snail and online mail that I get from them.

Thanks Jon-I guess I'm just too timid.
Thanks for the TR & great pics! Congrats to Linda on her first full pay royal! Nice to put in that extra $20 to get a royal. My husband put in another $100 on Triple play and picked up 2 royals, we never know! Congrats to you for the action you got on a short loss! Congrats on the quads for the steak dinners as well!

We played a couple hours at the bar at El Cortez last trip & was very delighted to be told we had the 5X points after we stopped to get our ACG free $10 coupons validated. We had enough to pay for our dinner at Flame in conjunction with the ACG coupon. We try to stop there each trip & play a couple hours. We actually should be more impressive this time as we usually play quarters & this time we had to play .50 at the piano bar.

I used to play a lot of Pick Em in AC as well as Greektown Detroit. They have removed all of the good schedules. I had some really good as well as bad times with it.
Great TR & liked all the pics too. Sounds like you all had a really good time.

This story cracked me up:

"Then we went back to Fitzgerald’s; I was playing the FP coupon from the MRB, and I decided to go for the free steak again. I’ve been trying to win that damned steak for four years now, never hit it. So I’m playing the 8/5 BP steak machine, having a great session, lots of flushes and full houses (which of course piss you off on BP because it ain’t 9/6). Finally hit quad queens, get the steak voucher from a generally pissed off slot attendant. Within the next four minutes, I would hit quad 2s, then quad 6s. So he had to give me two more vouchers, then a hopper fill. He was livid by then."

I guess that Plaza needs to update their website although maybe they are leaving it up that way so that less people may take advantage of it since they lowered the requirement for qualifying to play it.

Thanks for all the comments. The El sure seems generous with comps, coupons, etc. I remember the first time we went to Roberta's, we had a couple of MRB coupons, a couple of ACG coupons and some $5 off coupons from a funbook that they used to mail out for the asking (no more, though). They took all of the coupons, I think they paid us to eat that time.

I'll wait to see if we get on the radar any more than just casino rate and 5x points (although Judy is right, the points can buy a lot of food). I wonder how they look at players that mostly hit the DB machines.

CLV, Fitz is fun in its own way. Not sure if I'll ever be a regular there (as I said, I'm done with the steak promo, I can say that I did it, and that's enough), and who knows what it will look like after the GG takes it over completely.

Thanks for reading, guys, it was a hell of a long and tedious TR.
