Friday, July 15th Last Day
After another late evening getting our gamble on downtown…we finally made our way to the room around 4am. We managed to get our things packed and were prepared to meet up with the family at breakfast.
At 8am I made my way down to see the casino host to see if they could do anything on my bill. I had paid cash for the cabana, and meals so all that was left was my wife’s spa treatments and the Gold Club Room for 4 nights. I knew that I had already received a great deal on these rooms at $92 a night, and I was reminded by the host that these are considered suites, so I wasn’t sure what they could do. They has me down for 32 hours at $49 a hand at the tables and my wife around 4 hours on the slots. They took off all but two nights for the room and I still had some extra comp she told me but not enough for another room night. She asked me if we were eating at the hotel and I said yes. She asked how many, and I said that 10 of us were meeting. She said she would give me a comp for 6 of those. I was very pleased to say the least. I loaded the car and paid cash at checkout since I had done well on our last evening’s gambling binge. We then headed to meet the family at the buffet.
The Golden Nugget staff seated our group fairly quickly and again the meal was good. Since most of it was free and the other two couples used 2 for 1 coupons, we only actually had to pay for two breakfasts. This was taken care of by my nephew who went on a real heater at the El Cortez Blackjack table hitting it for $2800. It was bittersweet as we realized this was the last time we’d be together for awhile. Most everyone shared their favorite moments from the trip and there were many laughs and a few tears. My wife and I still had to return the rental car, so we bid our farewells to everyone. By the time I got home I had emails asking me when I was planning the next Vegas Trip.
Final Thoughts:
I had spent months of planning and organizing the trip. Almost all of it turned out as well or better than I could have imagined it. As with all large groups, getting them together at specific times and specific places can be like herding cats…nearly impossible. It appeared that everyone enjoyed the trip, so that’s good enough for me.
Although my wife and I live comfortably, I realized that there were many in the group that are pinching pennies. I tried to make the best use of coupons/groupons/facebook deals and any other cost savings to maximize our gambling dollars.
After adding it all up for this group of 16, the coupons saved everyone nearly $3000. The savings included:
Approximately $1750 in food – including $200 at the M Buffet and $400 at the Flame
$391 off Golden Nugget Gold Club Rooms
$750 in savings for “Love” Tickets
$195.00 in spa coupons
It was nice that each of the couples took turns splitting the eventual costs of the meals. I don’t know that I’d want to be a group this size every year, but this time around it worked out well. Thank you for taking the time to read this if you made it all the way through.
