First Trip Atlantic City in Years

I dont know if I would actually call this a trip report it is more our thoughts on it.This was our first trip to Atlantic City in at least 13 years. This year airfares from NH to Las Vegas were to high so we decided to try Atlantic City.

Our dates were April 17 - 24. I started our search on Atlanticcity.com and found out that weekends were really expensive and week days were reasonable. Ended up booking five nights at Trump Plaza April 17-21, for $69 per night.

Next I searched VP free for full pay VP. Basically found the only thing available for a .25 player was 9/6 JOB.
Which is better then I would find in CT.

However Trump Plaza supposedly ahd 30 machines I found 4, Ballys had some I found none, Resorts, Ceasars, Showboat and Harrahs supposedly had some and they did.

So I was happy because there was something good to play, Kathy didn't care because she will basically play anything.

We found AC to be more expensive then LV for food but Trump Plaza had a $13.99 prime rib special and a $9.00 breakfast special which fit the bill pretty good. Bally's had a special for the buffet Mon-Thur. play 30 minutes minimum and earn at least 10 points and get a free buffet. You could earn this once a day.

The last day there we went to the Marina area. Started with Harrahs had a nice time there until we left and found out you had to pay $5 to park which you paid when we exited the parking garage. If I knew that going in I would have not gone in. Borgata was the same thing so we did not go in. Charge me to park to play? Something is wrong with this picture.

We ended up enjoying AC more than we thought we would and will go back again if airfares are a total disaster.

I now have choices in the Northeast: 1 Atlantic City, 2 Akwesasne Mohawk Casino, 3 Mohegan Sun and last and least Fauxwoods.

Special thanks to Flip for advise before the trip.

Charlie,

Trump Plaza recently ransacked their VP inventory. They probably removed about a third of the machine and downgraded about 90% of the rest of them. Not a happy camper about that as TP has been my home casino in AC.

Right now, Trump Plaza is running a deal where you don't have to pay to park. It's a state law that they need to collect $3 per vehicle that park at the casino. However, most of the casinos jack that amount up. Once you paid to park at Harrah's, you would have been able to park for free at the Borgata by showing the parking receipt. (You can do that within 24 hours of the receipt.)

Glad that I was helpful. Let me know the next time you go down and I may be able to give you some more advice.
Charlie,
I am also from NH and fly out of Manchester. I had to get flights out of Boston last february for my trip to Vegas next month to keep the airfare barely under $400. Boston is almost exactly a one hour drive for me, and manchester is 15 minutes.
Last weekend I was checking prices on southwest and found that they had $139 one way tickets to vegas! They are not direct flights though, they have one layover (ok by me) The worst thing was I have to stay an extra day in Vegas to get the $139 return price(how awful huh?) see the low fare calander.
I called southwest and cancelled my Boston Flights and Booked them into Manchester and saved $300 on 4 tickets! No hassels from southwest!
Very different than Vegas but one can still have fun and find deals-- you have good enough weather to walk the Boardwalk a few times???

were you regular old school tower at Trump or East Wing??
ocean view?

FYI, we have also stayed at a Marriott Courtyard that's near the boardwalk casinos when we couldn't find reasonable rates at any of the casino hotels. It's a really nice property, either newly built or recently refurbished. And they always had yummy chocolate chip cookies at the front desk. :~)
Thanks for the nice TR
Deb,

The Courtyard used to be a Quality Inn years ago.
