Flamingo/Paris Trip Report 6/19 thru 6/24~Day 2

The plan for Day 2 was breakfast at Terribles and then win cards and mps at the Hard Rock. I originally was not going to eat at Terrible's but a few people said I should try it. I figured for $5 and a 2-for-1 coupon, why not? Well, we get to Terrible's and because it's a Saturday they are serving what they call brunch, at a cost of $10 per person! RIP OFF. Well, I'm already there and have already signed up for their stupid card (at least they gave us each $5 free slot play w/sign up) so we decide to try it, but at double what we had planned to spend. My review of the Terrible's breakfast buffet is that they had really good thick bacon and tasty biscuits and gravy, they also had good watermelon. Everything else was mediocre at best. Tony didn't like the food at all. I would give it 2 1/2 forks and he was probably a 1 fork. This was our second buffet on the trip and the second place that didn't have my favorite buffet drink, chocolate milk-the Orleans didn't have it the night before either. Whatever.

So we go burn through our mp's and free slot play. I sit and bet red on roulette and actually won some spins. Met a nice middle aged man with a warm smile drinking white russians (at 9:30 in the morning mind you). We get to talking, he was very friendly, was betting hundreds of dollars on this game though. After a while he says he is a local and that his old lady left him the night before. Felt bad for the guy, but that explains the heavy gambling and early morning drinking I suppose.

Anyway, we see in the Terrible's funbook that some of their mps are only good Mon thru Weds (lame). But now it's 10 am and Tony says it's noon somewhere (I guess back in WI) so it's time for a drink ourselves. We notice the free drink coupon in the funbook and take it up to the bar. Bartender ignores us. Come on, how many people do you think are there drinking at the bar at 10 am? Finally I get his attention, show him the coupon and he mumbles something intelligible and ignores us some more. He repeats himself after I won't go away and am still standing there still clutching my coupon and a confused look on my face. He barks a bit louder this time coupon is only good for silver and platinum members. WHATEVER!

Good thing I left that dump with $37 of their money...eased the irritation w/the place, oh and we did also get the two free t-shirts w/sign up too.

So now we walk over to Hard Rock. And yes, we're walking to all these places from the Flamingo. It was early enough when we left the room that the outside temp wasn't unbearable yet. Ok, so we arrive at the Hard Rock and are loving it from the minute we walk in. Great music, friendly dealers, A+ drink service, good players card sign up promotions. We each had $10 free play on their slots and the club-ling lady tells us if we put 100 points on our card we can swipe it in their magic machine for food credit. We used our two $10 mp's on roulette as well as the win card chips ($30 for $20 each) and $20 free slot play on penny slots. What do you know, the free $20 in slot play lasted a long time. We each racked up 100 points in no time. HR has single zero video roulette. I know it doesn't pay as well, but it is single zero. I enjoyed earning my 100 points on that machine. We were recording all our buy ins and win/loss on Tony's blackberry, and drinking heavily by now w/all the free drinks, so all I have is our overall total win which was...$+103! No wonder I liked this place so well. We sat and played a few hours and came out ahead. So on our way out we swipe our cards. What do you know, we each earned a $50 food credit to their fancy restaurant Ago. I ask the girl if we can use them together, yep she says. Are they good on Saturday I ask? Yep, she says, good anytime. It is strictly a food credit though so your alcohol is not included. That's ok, we left HR with five beers each in us. Not a bad late morning/early afternoon. We now hop the HR shuttle to the MGM, because even I am not walking back to the strip in this heat. Tony and I agree we will come back that night to use the food credit (as it expires in 24 hours). Of course I call right away for reservations, am disappointed they don't open until 5:30! Geeze, might as well be midnight. Oh, well, for free food I will delay my dinner time. We of course, make the 5:30 reservations, and now w/about 3 hours to kill before dinner, we decide to go to Planet Hollywood.

PH has gotten a lot of bad press lately w/their refusal to honor the MRB $25 matchplay, so we were going to skip it, but I said we'd at least earn 1 point and get the $25 in free play. Well, PH does treat new sign ups well, I have to admit. We signed up, earned $5 free play. We went to our penny slots, ran enough coin through to earn one point, and got the $25 loaded on. They also had a third, bonus promotion, where you put 4 points on you get ANOTHER $15 free play. Well, FREE is for ME, so of course we add the 4 points on. All w/about $10 of our own money put in, the rest was on PH. We did not do any of the mp's of course, I didn't even try. So just slot play alone we cleaned that place out of $126! Nice take on free slot play.

I'm in a great (buzzed) mood by now, however, PH only delivered one drink to each of us the whole time we were there, so we decided to take the shuttle back to HR for our $100 food credit at Ago.

Of course I'm banging down Ago's door at exactly 5:30, me and a few old men elbowed our way to the best tables. Tony hung behind, hands in his pockets, shaking his head at me.

We ordered calamari and fresh mozzarella to start. Delicious. I ordered veal cutlet and Tony had the clams and linguini. We knew we'd be going to the El Cortez later that week for steak so we wanted something different on this night. We ran up a $90 food tab, drinking only soda and ice water, we could have ordered a $10 dessert to share, but were so stuffed, we just couldn't do it. So we left a big tip and got the heck out! Overall, we agreed this was our best dinner of the trip, how could I give it anything but 5 forks and an A++!

We get back to Flamingo by 7:30 pm. Exhausted. Sleeping by 8:00...me and several thousand blue hairs in the city I'm sure...gone nighty night.

But wait the night's not over yet. I wake up about 5 hours later. It's 1 am, and I'm refreshed and ready to go. I was just going to wander down to the Flamingo and give Harrah's some play, as we've stiffed them to this point. My rustling woke Tony up and he said he was in the mood for some Craps. Ok, I say, let's hit it. We go to Casino Royale for their $3 minimum. Of course the joint is packed w/revelers. We meet two gay men from Tenesee, they were very friendly and made room for us at the table. I'm guessing they we're in their mid 20's but didn't ask. I kept betting what they were betting as they seemed to know what they were doing. At first lots of good rolls and Homo-fives...I mean High-Fives. After a while, we started crapping out more and more. I was in three or four more drinks by now, so that probably didn't help. Now I was getting more tired than drunk and was ready for bed (again). It's about 4 am by now and I ask Tony if he's ready to go. He's not. He says two more people and it's his turn to shoot. Can I wait a bit more? Sure I say. I go and sit my dead ass down at a 9/5 or 9/6 VP machine. I throw in a twenty and start hitting some good full houses and three of a kinds I guess. I'm betting the max because that's what all you people tell me, and it's a great pay table so I'm thinking I'm doing ok. I get my total up to about $45 dollars and then start losing it all. So I run through all my winnings and then my original $20. I'm disgusted and tired and ready to go. I walk up to Tony...he's finally shooting at last. I stand there and glare at him until he craps out. He must have secretly known I was happy about this because it means we get to go. It's our first argument of the trip. It's 5 am. We stomp back to the Flamingo. I lose him first chance I get, and angrily throw another $40 into some machines at Flamingo, which is lost faster than you can say, 'sunrise'.

In summary, after our wonderful afternoon at Hard Rock/PH and even that dump Terrible's we were up $267 cash, $100 food @ Ago, and twelve free bottles of beer. We promptly go and lose $80 at Casino Royale and another $40 at Flamingo. Oh well, we still end up $+147 on the day.
Well thank you for posting Part 2 and that was a nice, eventful day! As for Video Poker, 9/5 Jacks is not good (about 98.45% long-run return). 9/6 Jacks Or Better is good (99.54% return). Well it's still nice that you had profit for the day and I wish you both more continued luck through the trip!

And as for your dinner at Hard Rock, you probably could have gotten the dessert and taken it to go and then had it at your leisure.

And speaking of the Hard Rock, it's good to know that their shuttle is working. Maybe I'll take it on my next hopeful upcoming trip depending on where and when it comes and goes to and from.

It's not only the blue hairs that hit the sheets early in Vegas, it's also we East Coast people!!! But then we are up at 6 or 7 AM - which is 3 - 4 AM Vegas time!!

Now on to part 3
Nice use of coupons and public transportation. Wish we were all so diligent in those areas.
One thing I noticed in these photos. In the first one, Tony looks like a friend of mine and, with his cap off in this one, he appears completely different and looks like another friend.

"After a while he says he is a local and that his old lady left him the night before. Felt bad for the guy, but that explains the heavy gambling and early morning drinking I suppose." (sorry, don't know how the real quote thing works.)
Maybe his drinking and gambling explains her leaving. . .

I guess this is because I am an extremely low roller, but what are win cards and how do you get them?

Trip sounds fun--you all made it a good long time before any stomping occurred! Bravo. Can't wait to read more
Hey, thanks for the nice comments all. The wincards work like this: you go to the players club and say you want to purchase 'wincards' many of the casinos have little flyers on the counter explaining how it works, or a form to fill out and give to the players club staff. They give you a voucher to take to the cashier. You give the cashier $20 and they give you $30 in non-negotiable chips...you have to bet them, but when you make a bet and win, you get paid in 'real' chips, plus you keep the non-neg chip for your next bet (play them 'til you lose them basically). Our theory is we were going to sit down and bet that $20 anyway, might as well get $10 of free play out of it on the casino. Most places only let you do it once a year (so I've heard).
Thanks!

Just curious trying to get some info on Ago and nothing on the hard rock site and a couple other said it is closed . Did it just recently re-open?
Enjoying your TR so far.
For some reason, the author of these trip reports has resurrected them from two and a half years ago so this information is not current.
