Let me start this report with the fact that Deuces Wild is my favorite type of video poker. We have a casino in Toledo now, but their deuces pay table is so awful I never play it. So when I go to another casino, I try to play deuces as much as possible. Usually the game hates me though, and I can never play long without losing. So my plan was to play as much deuces as possible in Vegas. That is always my plan, but usually doesn’t work out well.
We left Detroit at 5:00 PM on Easter Sunday. We leave our 16 year old with my mom. Our son now has his license, so he will be driving my mom around. This is going to give me some tense moments, but it all went well. After a smooth flight, we landed in Vegas and made our way to the Main Street Station, since we had free rooms there. That’s fine, we love Downtown and MSS is our favorite.
We never play much the first night, as we usually arrive late – it was 11:00 our time. I had been thinking on the plane what I wanted to play first, and I decided on Treasure Chest. It’s basically 8/5 Jack’s, but any 4 of a kind lets you choose a treasure chest. So I sat down, and had a heart to heart with the machine. I asked it for any quads, excepts two’s or aces. About 5 minutes into playing, I hit my first quads. They were twos of course, and with my treasure of 180, not a great payoff. So I switched to deuces, and immediately hit four fives natural. I hope this is not going to be a sign of the way things are going to be. We were tired, so we were in bed by 9:00 Vegas time.
Monday, April 6
Up by 5:00 AM, and ready to start the day by 6:00. Started out at our usual place of the MSS bar for caffeine. I usually play the 9/6 Jacks there. Played for a long time, cashed out, and went looking for food. As we walked across the bridge to the California, saw the progressive at Dave’s Bar was above $1,700. Will try that later. Had breakfast at DuPar’s. Husband had the pancakes, but I am not a fan of breakfast, so I had the shrimp cocktail. It was very good, but still miss the deli at the back of Golden Gate. Next up was a trip to Golden Nugget. They have a progressive deuces game there that my husband loves to play. He always does well on that game. It hates me—maybe twice in our history of playing there I have hit the twos. Usually I watch him play, but since it was so early in the day I hadn’t played much. Sat down and played for a few minutes. Held one deuce and drew three more. I just about passed out! Four two’s and it is not even 8:00 yet. Cashed out and continue to work our way down to 4 Queens, The D, etc. looking for large progressives. None to be found, so we worked our way down to El Cortez, another one of our favorite places. I am still in mourning over the loss of the Flame. They are going to open a new restaurant in its place called Siegel 1941. Supposedly they are serving some menu items from there in the Café, but nothing interested us. We were looking for the Garbage Salad, which was my favorite thing from The Flame, but no luck. The new place is supposed to open in the next few weeks.
At the El Cortez I love to play the Deuces game that pays double on the two’s. Played for a long time, no two’s but I was happy that the game didn’t hate me. Last year I hit Loose Deuces there, but not this time. We both played for a while, then headed back out. Our one plan for Monday was to visit the Riviera one last time. Took the Deuce bus there. We had two match plays, but lost both. My husband played Double Double Bonus Poker (DDBP) and hit a quad (Jacks), so we left. I had decided since we would be here at lunch time we would eat at the Peppermill. We had never eaten there before. Had to wait over 40 minutes, but I ‘m glad we did it. The food was pretty good, and we enjoyed the experience. Then over to Circus Circus, where we play only one game, Aces and Eights. This is a fun game that pays $100 for 4 aces or eights. It also pays 250 coins for 4 sevens, not sure why. But it is fun, and the only place to play it. My husband hit the sevens, and a straight flush. After we were done with this we said our last good byes to the Riv and ended back downtown.
Worked our way back to MSS. I spent about an hour chasing the royal at the California, but no luck. Did get an awesome drink from the bartender. We laugh, because the bar there is only open about 2 hours a day. I think that is why this progressive seems to grow large.
After relaxing a bit we headed out to play some more and find some dinner. We ended up playing in Binion’s because it had been so long since my husband played there they considered him a new player. So he kept getting coupons and free play. We played a coupon for a free ace, and he got a blackjack. It was one of the few coupons we played that paid off. We played the match play and lost. We needed to find dinner, but had waited too long, and now the NCAA final basketball game was on, so every place that had a TV was jammed. We ended up using the coupon at the coffee house in the California, and had the prime rib special, which was decent. A lot of food.
Back to try the progressive again, no luck. Played the rest of the night in MSS. Besides playing Treasure Chest and at the bar I love playing Pay the Aces. It’s a crazy game that pays off for 1-4 aces dealt, with no face cards. If you can get 4 aces dealt with no faces it is a huge pay off. I am happy getting 3, because that is 250 quarters, but that game was brutal to me this trip. Husband is happy – he hits his second straight flush, playing Treasure Chest.
Kind of early to bed because we had been up since 5 am.
