Golden Nugget June 10 - 15 with lots of downtown thoughts

One place you missed you didn't mention for gambling was the Downtown Grand. I was there in January and liked it. The games were fair and music was perfect. It was the right volume and sounded like my old 8 track player in my car in the 1970's. It sounds like most folks don't venture that way to gamble and it is a shame.

that link has the photos...sorry for the incorrect pic posting here! Thanks for all the great feedback, glad you enjoyed. Also I hear you about the royal match bet at the El Cortez but don't care, it's fun! ha!

That's fine, I just wanted to let you know about what kind of a house advantage a player faces when making that bet. And also, at least according to the Wizard Of Odds website, a player will only hit a regular or Royal Match combined about 24% of the time.

I enjoyed the details of your report!

I agree about parents with their kids on Fremont into the wee hours of the morning. We have witnessed this ourselves. Good to hear your report about the Heart Attack Grill. Was wondering about that place.

I played blackjack at El Cortez as well. But if you count cards its not all that great, as they only deal out one round and reshuffle. sigh....

Fred

What a terrific, detailed report! Thanks for taking the time.

I love playing the side bets, and often win more than with the hand itself.

Ever since the Fitz morphed into the D, people have written how loud it is in there. I wouldn't be able to take it very long.

I'm proud that you stood up for your parking rights at the GN. Good job.

Oh, and perhaps you forgot one necessary part of the $20 trick when you tried it at the GN. The key is being discrete...no speaking aloud of it, just passing it over sandwiched between your credit card and ID, just enough of the bill peeking out so the agent can 'see' it, as you state what kind of room you want (high floor, view, etc). Perhaps the guy was new, or the boss was watching. But you got pretty much what you wanted anyway.
Thanks for all the positive feedback. Appreciate it!

On another topic, I've been disappointed to find that all the souvenir calendars you can find around town seem to ignore Downtown entirely. I spent 20 years thinking The Strip was the identity of Vegas, so I sort of get it. But during the lead up to this trip and since I've found there seems to be a passionate and opinionated segment of Vegas travellers who very much identify with Downtown and feel a strong and maybe historic connection to the properties down there.

So my question for you all is....would you consider buying a Downtown-centric calendar over the ones readily available that don't feature Downtown content?

If I'm remembering correctly, at least Golden Gate does (it certainly previously has) offer a calendar related to at least them (I previously got one with some coupon from I think the ACG).

As for the other calendars, I think that more Strip stuff is out there because of the "Glitz and Glamour" that has been attached to it even though Downtown (the actual Real Las Vegas) is where it all really started. Actually, everything South of about Sahara Blvd. is not Las Vegas but actually "Unincorporated Clark County" (the areas of Paradise and Winchester).

If I were to consider buying a calendar (I'm not really much for them) that had to do with LV, I would consider buying a calendar having to do with Downtown.

Thank you for the report. Also thank you for taking time to report to my question about the game on a separate board. I can tell you I to love the Tez and almost only play there. I also stay there. No pool basic but clean rooms. If you used a players card you will get great rates.
Thanks again
Thank you for writing the very informative trip report. I enjoy staying downtown. There are some good gambling places.
Thanks for the great detailed trip report. My last trip was 4 years ago, but I will be going in Sept. and staying downtown for the first time. I love the El Cortez fro gaming, which I discovered last trip. I will make sure to check out Pizza Rocks!!
