Golden Nugget Trip Report

The wife and I decided to stay at the GN for the week of the Super Bowl. We have frequented Vegas for over 20 years but had given up on the downtown Freemont area about 8 years ago (a bit to run down for our liking). So
this was a big change for us staying back on Freemont.

I did not regret the decision, Freemont is back and still getting better. I will start with the Golden Nugget:

We had a room in the new Rush Tower (nice modern best room for DT) but certain things a bit expensive. (mini Fridge $20 a day, Internet $13,99 a day). Also the bed frame is to big I wacked my shin twice on it and my wife did the same. The tub is as slippery as a tub can be so be careful.

The valet was rude to my wife on one occasion and the so called "Super Bowl Party" was not up to the standards I expected. Basically just a theater room to sit in with no real effort to make it special but I still enjoyed the GN.

Gambling DT:
A few things I noticed is that Freemont offers only 2X odds on Craps, 4Queens pays 6/5 on Blackjack, GN has no playable video poker (Bonus Poker if you like that).

I did enjoy "The D" it reminded me of Planet Hollywood in terms of a vibe and they offer good gambling choices on Craps, BJ & Video Poker.

I played the old Jokers Wild Video Poker at the seedy Vegas Club and had so much fun. Reminded me of when i went as a kid as this machine must date back to the early 80's.

Freemont Street

They do a great job of always having some form on entertainment going (concerts, street performers, DJ's outside the Golden Gate). Very lively and just a fun place
Glad you enjoyed your stay but it sounds like the GN needs to get it together. The bed thing is ridiculous. I hate when that happens but I had that problem at home once (before I got a new bed). I don't expect it to happen on vacation!

Thanks for the reviews of The D as well.
Thanks for the report! Was this report cut off somehow? I ask because I don't see a period at the end of what is currently here and it just seems like you had more to say.

Anyway, another not bad place in Downtown for at least Blackjack and some Video Poker (if not Craps as well) is El Cortez.

As for Blackjack at Four Queens, at least in November 2012, I did see a Single Deck table that was 3 To 2 but Players could only Double Down versus a Dealer's 10 or 11. That's just too terrible for me to play at because I will not give any casino an advantage of any more than 0.41% for a table Blackjack game (and with those rules, that game offers a casino advantage of 0.44%).

Thanks for the report. I would like to visit the downtown area in April during our next trip. I always have one fun night down there, but didn't make it last trip.

Have to agree with you. Freemont St is becoming much better and the D seems to be leading the way. Who'd a thunk it?

I still wish something could be done about the bums, but what are you going to do? Vegas Club is in BAD need of a new owner and a complete re-model.

At first I thought the cartoon pan-handlers were a plight, but I've changed my mind recently as they seem to be actually adding to the carnival flavor of the place.

Seems you should have reported the valet and totally agree with the GN. Machines are tight and they simply stuff them too close together. There are some areas you can't even walk when people are playing on both sides of the rows.

Might want to consider staying at the D next time, as I've heared the new rooms (though small) are very nicely done.

Thanks for the report.
