grand circle

has anyone done part of the grand circle tour? denise wants to go on a FAMILY vacation this year.
daughters julia and sarah have suggested yellowstone, which is a 1,500 mile drive from milwaukee
where i live and i can't think of a decent/near place to fly into; new orleans, which i am ok with but the summer there is a beast; or some other place that when they were talking it sounded like blah, blah, blah.

anyway. heard about the grand circle tour from vegas. flights are decent in the summer, rooms are okay
at harrahs where i usually stay. i don't want a tour. would like to do it ourselves. anybody?
I assume that you are talking about starting from Vegas and hitting the following parks: Zion, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Arches, Canyonlands, Monument Valley and the Grand Canyon....quite an undertaking. I have been to all of these parks except Canyonlands and Monument Valley. This would be a great scenic trip. Instead of taking hwy 89 up thru Marysvale, I took hwy 12 thru Escalante to Capitol Reef...wow, some breathtaking country. I definitely would take the time to visit the north rim of the Grand Canyon. It is at a higher elevation, not nearly as crowded as the South Rim and they have a very nice lodge and cabins near the rim of the canyon. Sitting on their terrace with a cocktail and watching the sunset over the canyon is a memory that I will never forget.

There is so much to do and see at each park; how many days are you allowing for the trip? Are you planning on staying in hotels or camping? The lodges in the parks are very popular and reservations should be made well in advance. I think a company called Xanterra runs them for the park service. You and the kids will see some of the most beautiful and yet desolate country in the lower 48. I hope that you can make this trip happen. Good luck!!!

yep, biglar73. thinking of starting in vegas. everything's up in the air right now. i figured reservations
would be a must at hotels/motels. i don't know how feasible it will be this year. i go to grand circle tours
and there's a bunch of companies that advertise there.

thanks for your reply.

A few years back we trailered our motorcycle to Utah and then went south down to Kanab, Utah and stayed there for 5 days. From there we were able to visit Zion, Bryce and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. It was our home base for all of the National Parks we were going to. Each park was @ an hour from Kanab. Nice little town. Stayed at a Best Western in Kanab at a reasonable price. Used an Entertainment Book discount. Then motored on to LV through the Virgin River Canyon. Absolutely awe inspiring trip of a life. I never knew how wonderful Utah was. I would definitely go back to the North Rim and stay at one of there cabins. We went end of May and there was still snow in the meadows going up to the North Rim.

Waynes I am not sure if you have ever tried Trip Advisor. I get my non LV stuff from them. I hope this is the right link it gives small and large circles from LV . All UT national parks and more. It's a great group of people .

I am doing a modified small loop this spring. LV , Bryce NP, Zion NP, Sedona. I originally wanted to do Zion, Bryce, Page, Arches, Moab, Sedona but man on man not en ought time. Best of luck have a blast. The only "tour" I am doing is the broken jeep in Sedona. The rest is solo.
That seems like such a FAR trip driving from Milw. Waynes.

Seems like alot of driving from Vegas too.......

What about flying to Yellowstone, and renting a car in that area?
Weve wanted to do that, and as yet, haven't.

I will be curious to hear what you come up with?

With everyone in the car that many miles........
I keep thinking of Chevy Chase & the Fam going to Wally world.

Hope it works out, with minimum driving-time.
Good luck Sir.

forget about it.

now the plan is for my wife's side of the family to get together on
a trip. pray for me.

Dude, that's soooo sad, my condolences...sounds like the trip from hell. Hope you can convince them to include Vegas in their plans...have a Landshark draft at Margarittaville...trip wouldn't be a total lost. Hang in there, and keep your stick on the ice.

HEY, I made the trip TO Wisc. last summer for hubbys Family Reunion.

If I can do it...........you can do it.

It was in the middle of Nowhere! WHY they chose the middle of nowhere?

Cuz they don't have lives.

It was like Planes, Trains & Automobiles to GET there. NEVER AGAIN.

My condolensces as well, but sometimes we bite the bullet for freakin' family.
