Our quest for the Great Race casinos is now officially over for both of us and we are happy to get $450 comp dollars each.
We visited Las Vegas, Laughlin on a day trip (that's all we needed there), Hammond (IN) Horseshoe (closest to home), Horseshoe Southern Indiana, and Harrah's St. Louis.
We visited St. Louis on Sept 17, a one overnight trip and just over five hours of driving time each way. We liked the casino very much. There were two rather large separate areas--one for smoking and one non-smoking. Both were fairly busy, but most of the table games are in the smoking section.
Our room was very nice and about average size. The hotel offers only a "conditioning shampoo.." not separate shampoo and conditioner. I've learned to bring my own. The hotel has two floors of suites and two towers.
The Diamond Lounge was great. Between 3 pm and 9 pm, they offer the hot food selection. Saturday it happened to be barbecued pork steaks. You can also choose a sandwich, either roast beef, turkey, or ham. Everything I've mentioned so far is by ordering from the menu. It is not out on a steam table. When the lounge opened at noon, you could get soup, salad, fresh fruit chunks, and assorted crackers and cheeses (two kinds). That was "serve yourself." The lounge also had serve yourself coffee, cappuchino, and soda, as does the entire casino. Since Missouri is not a comped alcohol state, the DL charged $1 for a beer of any kind from Bud to Corona to Heinekin; mixed drinks were $2, even for Grey Goose! On the casino floor, beer is $3. We tried the early bird dinner at Charlie Gitto's Italian restaurant. I had a very good pasta primavera with a wedge salad, while my husband had the lasagna with a bowl of minestrone. Both were $12.99, about $4 off the regular prices. Both were delicious.
Would we make a trip back there? If we are enroute to somewhere not far from there, yes. To just go there again, no (unless there is another Great Race, lol.)
Here's an off topic tidbit....we were chatting with a young 7 Star in the DL. He was upset because he ONLY got his four nights comped, $450 in hotel credits, and $750 freeplay. The last time he was there was in July. I know I'd be thrilled with that!
