GREGRIO...Feb. 13-17

..........RED SKELTON RECIPE FOR THE PERFECT MARRIAGE..........

1. "I take my wife everywhere...but she keeps finding her way back"
2. "I married Miss Right. I just didn't know her first name was ALWAYS."
3. "We always hold hands. If I let go, she shops"

Lol, those are some jokes taken from the last HBO, one man Show special, Red Skelton
did and created again in a Show called 'REMEMBERING RED' presented by a wonderful
actor/comedian named BRIAN HOFFMAN. He has a one man Show at the WESTIN CASUARINA
on Flamingo, just down from Bally's...more about Brian's Show in Shows and Entertainment later.

I did a couple different things this trip...Had a great lunch in the 'Top of the World' restaurant
at the Stratosphere and...GOT TUNNELED!

When I got my cab at McCarran, I was thinking about the distance from Bally's to the Westin.
...Could I take the RIO shuttle to Bally's and walk over...?
I get in, tell the driver I wanted to go up to Flamingo, then to RIO...explaining, why but
FORGETTING to say "no tunnel please".

Well, this jerk agrees...even chimes in and says I could walk it in about 10min.
I'm pulling out a handful of those little '24/7' pocket magazines which I always bring home to pass
around to friends heading for you know where...(not paying any attention to where we're going) and
the next thing ya know, we're heading for the tunnel.
I BLAST THE GUY! who transforms himself into a perfect idiot/lying/thief...."oh i'm sorry, i must have misunderstood you sir"...LIKE A RATS ASS YOU DID YOU %#!*&!$%@!%!

WELL!, lol....he hightails it to the RIO.
Now normal fare for me with tip...from McCarran to the RIO is $20.
When we got to the hotel, his meter read $23.50
We get out and my buddy Claude (he's the senior doorman and we've know each other for years...) sees
me and yells out..."hey Greg, welcome home", but he's helping a guest into another cab, so I'm on my own.
I should have given this driver a twenty and told him where he could put it but...I pull out a twenty
AND a five. I'm handing it to the driver and ask for change.
LOL...I'm holding one end of the bills, the driver is holding the other end and says..."i don't have any change"
THAT'S! IT!.......CCLLAAUUDDEE!!!
At that point the guy pulls the money from my hand, runs to his cab and speeds away. (I had my bag...)

By the time I got to the front door, Claude was free, but I'd forgotten the cab number, lol...I was just as
pissed at myself for not saying NO TUNNEL which I (almost) always do, as I was at the driver.

Now had I remembered, Claude would have written it down and watched for that car and not allowed him
to pick up any fares at the RIO for a month but...EL TORO CRAPO HAPPENS.

I got there at 8:30, checked in with Platimum registration...was in my room around 1:00.
Everything normal at the RIO. Still a bit cool for the pools to be open yet, weather was overcast,
windy and even some snow on the mountain tops in the morning...it was cold.
This was an average little trip. My last one was over Christmas/New Years but I just couldn't wait for
my LARGER trip in April.

That's gonna be fun. The 'new' SMITH CENTER for the PERFORMING ARTS www.thesmithcenter.com
opens in March and I have 2 Shows booked for that trip in there:
1. The PINK FLOYD EXPERIENCE
2. COLOR PURPLE
along with the ?new? BITE, Frankie Morino, Rod Stewart, Santa Fe and the Fat City Horns, and ZUMANITY.
The SMITH CENTER also has a small jazz cabaret where CLINT HOMES will perform the first weekend
of every month along with a huge list of wonderful entertainers throughout the year.
In the coming months I've booked MEMPHIS, MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET and in Sept. WICKED!

This trip I saw LOVE again. I'd booked the neat little crows nest seat, way up in SEC. 306 but...the 7pm Show
had not sold out and everyone was re seated to the Front or Upper Rear sections.

Those of you that have seen LOVE...during the scene where 'the Walrus' is high above the stage on his
swinging board...swing back 'n forth to 'The Benefit For Mr. Kite'...down below they're setting up the ramps
for the roller blade jumpers. Well....one of the jumps wouldn't lock down. Extra crews come out, all trying to
secure the ramp to the stage floor. The 'fat man' who introduces the Show at the beginning...well he comes
out and tells a story about the 'Cavern Club' where the BEATLES had their start...The two large wall screens
show film clips of screaming girls...the crew keeps fiddling with the ramp, and the 'Walrus'...well, he's just
sitting up there now.
Obviously, and unexpected event...they covered pretty well, but it sure slowed up the momentum.
Then...........!HELP! I need some body... the bladers flew down the ramps and all was well.

I also checked out the 'new' closing act in MYSTERE, SEC. 203, ROW CC, seat 1. I said good bye to the PHANTOM (it closes in Sept.)
I wanted to see it again while all the main cast members are there. Many times when a Show is set to close,
some of the main actors leave for new contracts in other Shows. I hope this doesn't happen with PHANTOM
because they have such a wonderful cast but...ya never know, I wanted to make sure, and saw the real deal!

I did ELTON again...........................................................? (that didn't sound right did it...)
Sat down front this time, FORCH, ROW GG, seat 413...fun, but too close. Stick with UPPER REAR ORCH 4,3,5.
MTV was filming a special that night and camera crews were every where. Didn't disrupt the Show at all, and
ya may see me doin' my SATURDAY NIGHTS ALL RIGHT FOR FIGHTING groove!

I checked out BRIAN HOFFMAN's 'REMEMBERING RED'...a tribute to Red Skelton.
This fun little Show is over in the Westin on Flamingo, just down from Bally's (DON'T ASK YOU TAXI DRIVER
TO RUN YA BY...)
It's a neat little Show. 2pm and more about it in Shows and Entertainment.

I'm up and in the casino early...have my fill of gaming by lunch, then it's nap time and start all over again
around 4pm for my evening Show(s)

I used the RIO's shuttle a couple times to Harrah's, then walked to showrooms on the STRIP.
I took my usual cab rides also and had no problems.
I've always used cabs. Most of the time, my drivers are good, but there's a few out there that are so pressured
by their companies to make money, they make a bad name for all the other good guys.

Just by coinsidence, local channel 8NEWS NOW was doing a two part story on taxis long hauling tourists.
They sent in their undercover reporter who took 3 rides out of McCarran. He was tunneled once out or the 3 times.
They said the NEVADA TAXI CAB AUTHORITY was trying to crack down on the problem, but there's so many cab
companies who just won't enforce or reprimand their drivers...you're kinda on your own out there.
The report 'said'...the driver that long hauled their reporter was fired.

I tip my good drivers $3. on top of the fare. Most rides from RIO to Harrah's, Mirage, ti, Caesars, Bellagio
total out to aprox. $12. each way, sometimes less.

It's a new year...time to insure those 'tier points' are earned to keep whatever Total Reward players level
you like...I prefer Platinum and got off to a good start toward my total of 4000 by the end of the year
to stay Platinum for 2013. I earned a little over 1200 points this trip. 4000 will happen soon and then I can
get back to some affordable video poker for fun and forget the slots til next year.
BY THE WAY...CET is 'tweaking' the Total Reward system soon...No one had any information yet, other than
a change was coming but shouldn't effect the amount of tier points you need for which ever level you prefer.
On the other hand....be prepared for anything. CET will always love OUR MONEY more than us.

THAT'S IT...1st trip of 2012. Here's a little more from RED SKELTON:

"My wife told me the car wasn't running well because there was water in the carburetor.
I asked where the car was now; she told me "In the lake."
Thanks, Gregrio for the interesting report and sorry to read about your long hauling!

RecVPPlayer
As usual a great report by the Rio master.
Good trip Greg! Didn't know you were goin!
Then again, I didn't expect to be goin' either. lol
Did my first ever Day-Trippin! Long story.........wont be doin' it anytime again soon, cuz its too tiring......lol

Thx for Taxi story too. You are definately on your own out there, to TELL cabbies to Not take the tunnel.
Glad one of 'em got fired for it. About time.........they need to do More of that.........

Laters! Mr. Entertainment!

We are seeing the Pink Floyd Expierence next month. 2nd time fir us. It's a great show.
Hey Greg, sounds like a very nice trip. I'm jealous you 'did' Elton! I'm hoping to get back when he's playin' as he's my fave.

Too bad on the long-haul, and not the way you want to begin the trip. Jerk. No doubt you will be all over the cab ride on the next trip! Since I'm always going to Caesrars or the Flamingo, I've started telling the cab drivers I have $20 total for cab fare, how they get there and what the split is fare/tip is up to them. My main goal is to arrive as FAST as possible 'cause I'm in VEGAS, and I'm always surprised how quickly they can make that trip! LOL.

Glad you were able to go back, thanks for posting!
diane
Sounds from the news that you got to 'do' Elton just in time, Greg...
Apparently he got sick?? and has cancelled some show dates until April??

Excellent show info, as always.
What did ya have to eat at the Top of The World place?
Hey Greg, I just noticed the banner on the bottom of this page.....Boz Scaggs at Grand Sierra, Sat nite!!!
(ugh, just noticed banner changes, LOL, but says Boz sometimes.........)

I spent ALOt of time on that GS site past couple days. GS always sending us offers, but I haven't
booked there in a Long time.........but Boz will be there, so Off we go, Sat. Weather should be fine.
Had to pay for tix. Oh the humanity. lol
Boz may be sold out by now? It was getting close when I was booking.

Just thought I'd point it out to ya if youre a big Boz fan like Meeeeeee! Laters!
Great report as always. I got tunneled my first time to Vegas years ago, didn't know better, has not happened since, came close last summer but when i said "I know you not about to take the tunnel!" he said " oh, i was daydreaming" and all was good..lolololololol
Greg, enjoyed your report.

However, your TR brings back a bad memory for me.

Red's son came over to my house a couple times and for some reason I can't recall, I was mean to him. I think we were both around the same age.
Maybe 8 or 9.
I did not know he was sick at the time.
I think it was Leukemia.
This has always bothered me.

As far as the cab ride, I would have given the guy what I felt was fair under the circumstances...$15.

No change? Wait until I get some. LOL

Hope your next trip is a smooth ride!!!
