Hit ‘em All Nevada – Day 24
This morning I was an early riser and did a nice walk in the morning before the heat set in then walked back to the room, finished up the report, and sent it in. I wasn’t hungry so skipped breakfast and bought an orange juice for my vitamins and played a couple of games. The LOTR games had one seat open and I took another swing at them. I started up a little talk with a lady playing one of them next to me. She had over 300 miles (a game feature) on them, which means she’s played A LOT (I only have 126). We chatted about how these machines seem to be really tight. She had been playing over an hour this morning and mentioned the only bonuses she got were from power spins. I told her the same thing happened to me yesterday. Harrahs must have these games set at the very minimum of pay back allowed. So, I suppose I’ll stick to video poker here.
The poker tournament was the usual set up in the tournament area. I was out very early when I became short stacked when I was caught bluffing a flush and then went all in with jacks and was called by AK. I lost the race when an Ace showed up in the window. At least I lost to a guy who knew how to play well—he was the same one who called my bluff.
I drove down to the Riverside because I wanted to see the just released CAPTAIN AMERICA. I enjoyed it—one of the better summer releases. Though I’m not a big fan of the Riverside (my parents’ favorite casino), they do have a bank of Quick Quads (a favorite game) which seem to be disappearing everywhere else. They are 3/5 plays for nickels and quarters. Quarters are just too rich for me. I wish they had them for dimes. But I played a very good round and managed a good share of quick quads. I was dealt four-to-a-royal in diamonds but didn’t connect on any of them. However, about ten hands later, I was dealt four-to-a-royal in clubs and this time I caught the needed jack on the first hand.

Finally. Though only for nickels, it's still nice to hit
I played for a good hour or so and finally cashed out a couple of hundred ahead. I walked up to the third floor where the auto museum is located. I knew about the small annex that faces the main street, but I wasn’t aware of the larger show on the third floor. I followed the signs and enjoyed looking at all the old cars. There’s also a very nice view from here of the river. There were a few people up here sitting in chairs to simply enjoy the view, chat, and enjoy the air conditioning.

My dad had one of these and I remember sitting in the drive-in with the hard top down. It was cool

My mother had one of these. We have a picture of it in our driveway in a scrapbook

Back in the day, this was every man's wet dream

Some readers were asking about the construction going on along Casino Drive. It seems all they’re doing is putting in cement mediums everywhere—an awful lot of time and money I think on something that certainly doesn’t seem all that necessary. Who knows? Perhaps they were tired of cars and motorcycles making illegal U-turns or something. Hopefully, they’ll also put in some trees or greenery so it looks nicer. Now that I think of it, perhaps some newer sewage pipes were buried as well—and that’s a good thing.

I went back to Harrahs to play a little more and sat down once again at the nickel/dime 3-5 plays to go after the deuces. I finally managed to break through and catch one set of deuces (first of the trip) which was good for another hundred dollar win. I was still frustrated being dealt three deuces five times and only catching the one.
As I mentioned, these reports aren’t going to be very long. I’ll be back in Las Vegas tomorrow and things should pick up as I’ve been getting some suggestions for places I will be checking out plus my sister’s family is in town, so I’ll be joining them. Also approaching soon will be the Celene Dion concert with LVA members Terry and Louise (dorianmac) and the East Coast Las Vegas Advisor (ECLVA) annual MPT (Mattress Poker Tournament) soon approaching.
More tomorrow
