Hit ‘em All Nevada – Day 5
It’s July Fourth and I’m so very thankful that I didn’t wake up with a hangover, oh yes, and am thankful for American Independence as well. I wanted to come up with a plan for the three days I’m here and I’ve decided to make the Laughlin casino run tomorrow after the majority of tourists leave after tonight’s celebrations. It should be much easier to get to the tables and parking tomorrow versus today. Of course that’s not to say that I won’t still get in a couple.
After getting up, getting yesterday’s embarrassing report finished, and down to the car, it was already 11:00 AM. I am a big movie fan, and the only time I really take to see all the recent flicks are on these trips. With my running around all these casinos so much of the time, I haven’t been able to that much. So, today I’m going to do just that. I drove over to the AVI casino, which has some nice theaters, plus I’ll be able to make my $10 bet there and scratch that off the list.
Interestingly enough, the AVI is an Indian casino, and the ONLY Indian casino in the state of Nevada. The Pipa Aha Macav tribe owns the AVI, which in the Mohave tribe’s language means, money. It’s about a 20 minute drive from Harrahs. The casino is very modern and is well maintained and a good base of games including some full pay VP schedules in Deuces Wild, Bonus Poker, and Jacks. When I walked to be back where the theaters are located, I found that the movies about to begin were either BAD TEACHER or CARS 2. I’m not particularly anxious to sit in a theater with hundreds of small kids, and considering I’m a teacher, perhaps I can learn how to be a bad one.
The movie was okay and had a few good laughs, but I can’t recommend you rush to see it. The humor and language are pretty gross at times, and of course, the movie follows a lot of the clichés, but not a bad reason to stay in the air conditioning and enjoying some movie popcorn. On the way out, the blackjack tables were all full, so I took a shot at $10 on black at the roulette table. Black 29 hit (my son’s favorite number) and I finally won a roulette bet again. I walked around a little bit and thought I might want to put a couple points on my slot card, so I stopped at a penny Crystal machine, hit the bonus for 25 spins, then it retriggered for another 15 spins (the last retrigger spins netted a big zero in credits), but I still cashed out for an extra net $17 win—so thank you AVI for paying for my movie and snacks.
I drove across the bridge into Arizona where I knew there to be a Target. According to some replies from yesterday’s journal, when I said I found some mustard on my shorts, I was talking about my outside shorts, not undershorts—that REALLY would have been a mystery. Anyway, I needed to buy some new ones and I like Target stores. If you don’t already know, my summer uniform consists of shorts and a Hawaiian shirt. I must stay in uniform!
The gas in Bullhead, AZ, traditionally the cheapest gas in the Western US, was at $3.31 today. I’ll fill up here before I leave Laughlin in a couple of days. I drove back to Harrahs intent on staying here the rest of the day.
When I returned to Harrahs, I spent a couple of hours in the room and then headed down to give them some play. After some Lord of the Rings and bonus poker, I finally got around to putting in my $10 bet. It didn’t matter which color I called; it landed on the green 0 (the second time this has happened to me). So my betting today became a push.
I ordered a turkey wrap from the café and took it to my room to watch the fireworks from my window. They lasted almost a half hour and were terrific—MLM would have been proud. It’s a bit of short report today, but tomorrow promises to be a little busier as I work on getting the rest of the casinos done here in Laughlin.
