Hit ‘em All Nevada – Day 9
It was moving day, so I packed up everything and picked up my car from the Bally’s Valet. When you come into the valet and show them your diamond card, they give you a yellow pick up slip, which is only for diamond members, and then when you turn it in, you get a priority pick-up, which is nice except for the grizzly stares you get from those waiting for the cars before you got there and your car is already delivered.
Today it is my intention to finish up all the casinos that are east of the Strip. This way when I return to Vegas in a couple of weeks, I can hit all the casinos on the west side of the Strip. My first stop was Ellis Island. This is a little casino but does have blackjack and roulette, but the tables were closed this early, so I tried the ol’ $10 in the VP machine—loss. Ellis Island is famous with LVA members because their café sells good food at ridiculously low prices. The LVA/ AMG coupons for this place are all 2fers and free drinks, both of which have no use to me. Between the two coupons, you could order up eight free well drinks or draft beers. An alcoholic’s dream comes true.

Across the street is the Westin Hotel. This hotel caters mostly to business groups and conventions, so you don’t see a lot of buzz about this place. I will say that their casino is very nice and has a great relaxing vibe to it. Unfortunately, the video poker schedules are all terrible, so there really isn’t much to play here. I did play at my first blackjack video monitor, you know, the one where the pretty, buxom dealer on the screen begs you to play. I put in my $10 and was dealt a 20 while she busted with a 23. My first video blackjack win.

I drove north to Sahara to find a small casino called Eureka, Las Vegas. It turned out to be a slot house, though it was certainly large enough to be a small casino. The video poker schedules were poor, but it always surprises me to see that with so many casinos in Las Vegas, even little out-of-the-way places like this still have quite a few people in it playing in the morning.

I drove to Boulder Hwy and pulled into Boulder Station next. I’ve been here many times and it’s the first of what has become a large Station franchise. They’ve managed to keep this casino fresh and new looking. What sets this casino apart from the other properties is the floor, which has a deep polished mahogany throughout the property. I played blackjack and had to wait for the dealer to shuffle, but it was worth as she dealt me a blackjack for a $15 win.

Down the highway is Arizona Charlie’s East (ACE). For a long time the LVA offered a $25 coupon at their steakhouse, Yukon Grill, which was really a great coupon. At one time, they also had $2.99 Steak and Egg breakfast that no one could beat. But of course, those were the good ol’ days. The Yukon Grill, which was closed for a while is back, but the super café specials aren’t so special anymore. Blackjack was the game again, and I won.

It was 12.30 and I went ahead a tried to register at Sam’s Town, which was okay. She asked me if I’d like to upgrade my room for $30 per night seeing that my two nights were comped. I asked what was in the upgrade, and she said a flat screen TV and a refrigerator as well as the room being newly remolded. I said I’d pass being that I was only here for two nights. The room they gave me was the one I’m used to, clean, sparse, and a TV so small that my laptop has a larger screen, but it’s okay.

I played a little Joker’s Wild and full pay Jacks for a little while and then hit the road again. Down the street is the Longhorn Casino. I had a match play coupon, but I lost the bet. This place is a small, smoky joint where every time I’ve tried to use a coupon, the pit boss all but checks the color of your underwear.
Looks like I neglected to get a pic of the Longhorn
I took the 515 to the 215 to get to Green Valley Ranch (GVR). This was the location of the reality TV show CASINO, which I really loved. The show did wonders for the hotel as it was packed all the time and the people who worked there were enjoying their 15 minutes of with autographs and pictures. Those were the heydays. However, since then the place has become somewhat stagnated. It’s still a large, nice place with all the latest machines¸ but they really haven’t changed much except losing their Original Pancakes and Trophies Steakhouse franchises. I played blackjack and I won again.

My next stop is a place I would imagine most of you have never seen before or even knew it exists. It’s located at the very southern end of Boulder Highway and Horizon. I came across this place a couple of years ago when my son was encouraging me to buy a condo in Vegas. It’s called Club Fortune. There are about seven table games and if very popular as I had to wait for a while to get a spot to play my $10. It was worth the wait because I won.

As I was driving back on Boulder Hwy, I came across a new place I hadn’t seen before called the Mystic Lodge Casino. I pulled in and the place is a slot house and with a large bar and a nice little café. They didn’t have any table games, but they did have one of the video Blackjack games. I put in my $10 and the nice video dealer dealt me a blackjack for another $15 win.

Not far down the street is another slot house called Terribles Town. This place is actually a bowling alley. It’s an old place with only about 25 lanes and about ten rows of machines. There was nothing to play here.

The next casino along Boulder Hwy is the Skyline Casino. For a long while, this place used to be very popular for its $5.95 steak dinner. Today it’s still looks like it always had, but they most have put in a new ventilation system because where it used be a choking smoke house, it’s now very clear. There are no table games here nor were there any video blackjack so I didn’t play here. One thing to note is that there is a complete wall of coin-fed machines with full pay 9/6 Jacks. These machines were all taken. People still love to play the coins.

A little further down Boulder Hwy, you take a left on Sunset and there’s a small, old casino called the Klondike Casino. This place has seen its best year pass a long time ago. What was odd about his place was that there were only two table games and they were both roulette. No blackjack tables, no craps, nothing—just tow roulette games, and they were both almost full. I came in and put $10 on black. Everyone was playing with ten-cent chips, so I was a big roller. Black 28 came up (second time for me) and I won the bet.

My final stop of the day is the Cannery East. I picked up a slot card (their not hooked up with the other Cannery) and was given $5 free play. I lost my blackjack bet, but using my free play netted me $25 on the Airplane penny slot. This Cannery is really a nice place. It was pretty busy and I found that the poker has a nice 2/4 game with bonuses I’ll have check out sometime.

It was a long day of driving, taking pictures, walking in and around places, putting down the bet and leaving on to the next place. However, it was an overall winning day and put me back into the black. This takes care of all the casinos east of the Strip. I also took some time off to see the new movie HORRIBLE BOSSES, which though pretty crude, was really funny, but I’m sure not for everyone’s tastes. I took a Angus beef wrap from McDonald’s (very, very good) to my room and called it a night.
