Todd had his New Year’s Eve Poker Tournament on New Year’s Eve, Eve, so that everyone could get home safely. I didn’t get home from AC in time to attend the formal dinner beforehand, but I knew peops were dressing up. So, what the heck was I going to wear? But, then I looked in my closet and saw a sparkly shirt that I could squeeze into. I had told Al to dress a little nicer than usual and he said, “You said to dress nice, but what, you gotta dress like Cher?” LOL! The hostess is a girly, girl and I knew she would like the festive shirt so off we went.
Well, I mention the poker tournament because the shirt had the same effect that I have when I’m losing at VP – it shed glitter everywhere. I think we were eating glitter. I even went outside to shake some of the glitter off, spilled my water a couple of times and cleaned up some of the glitter with the spills and still I believe that Todd’s Full Tilt Poker Table is probably still glittery. I came in second and it was a nice evening.
I did nothing on New Year’s Eve and it was wonderful! I puttered around and stayed in my jams until I had to get ready to go out the next day!
SATURDAY – NEW YEAR’S DAY
Continue the puttering. Life doesn’t get any better, but then there’s work to do. 3 of us had worked out a deal to play 3000 points on each of our cards at Bally’s, and they were giving 7x points on Sundays in January, in addition to a promo that lasts until Jan 9 where you get $10 free play for every 250 points that you earn. So, it was a good time to have a big day. Only – the JOB machines were going to be hard to get, and we needed to get there at 5:30am to secure them by the start of the gaming day at 6am.
I got to AC at about 9pm but went right to Harrah’s (where we were staying overnight) but the others were at Bally’s. So, I played on my Mom’s TR card at Harrah’s for a little bit. I started out pretty well, but then was down $80 until I got a SF! Yeah! Cashed out even and my Mom got 73 points.
We drank champagne and figured out our schedule for the next day and cursed ourselves at 5am for not trying to get to sleep earlier!
SUNDAY – JANUARY 2
So, we got two machines and two lattes (ahhhh. Thank you Michael!) and began playing at 6:10am. We needed to put $90K in those two machines eventually and even at dollars it wasn’t going to be easy. And it was made especially grueling and uncomfortable by the smokers all around us. Every time one got up another would replace them. And chain smoke. And at times, literally be blowing smoke in my face. It was horrible. In retrospect I should have politely asked them to blow smoke in a different direction, rather than coughing or shielding myself with my jacket, but I was there all damn day and I was irritable. I thought I was going to bang my head against the machine when a smoker that was sitting next to me got up and the lady next to her, also a smoker, just HAD to have the vacant machine. So she took up the smoking next to me. Next time, I am going to get to the machines at 5am so I can get the two end machines on the other side of the bank where there’s more of a chance to be up wind.
I had this feeling that 2011 was going to be a good gaming year for me. I was certain that I was going to hit a Royal for us. I even like the way “2011” looks to the eye. Well, not only did I not hit a Royal for us, but my machine had the worst results! When the play was done, Cathy had 30 4oaks to my 18 and I owed $12 in quad bets!
Grinding at JOB for 10 hours is just not fun! Not fun at all. But, sometimes you’ve just got to put in the time and take a shot. We lost half a RF on one of the cards, a quarter of a RF on another and 18% of a RF on the third. Not a great way to start the year, but it could have been worse.
But, then a lucky thing happened – my job for the next day canceled so I was free to hang out in AC for as long as I wanted. Where are those Dreamcard machines?
So, I go over and find the Dreamcard machines. I just love that breathy voice, Drreem Card. Dreeeemcarrrrd Winn-nner! But playing 10 coins a hand really eats up money so I chose nickel triple play. I had just played a promo on Video Poker.com where the game was Dreamcard. Very expensive.
Finally, something that is FUN to play. Something I don’t have to play if I don’t want to. All the pay tables were 7/5 so I played TDB. And then I got three to a RF with the Dreamcard. And filled one in on the top line! A Dreamcard Royal!
So, I’m playing a little longer and again, get three to a RF and the Dreamcard. And fill one in on the top line AGAIN! I did what I have been waiting to do for years. Hit 2 Royals in 1 day and also hit 2 Royals on the same machine. I played a little longer, and cashed out $400 for a $300 profit.
Then we went off to the Noodle Bar and had a delicious meal and I drove home. Yeah, it’s not ideal to take a beat down at dollars and then get two Royals at nickels but you don’t have control over that.
MONDAY – JANUARY 3
So, there was a possibility that we were going to work another promo this day but I wasn’t expecting it. But, when I woke up, I saw the text that it was a go and quickly showered and headed for Harrah’s. We needed to do 1500 points and I needed to secure one of those three GD 9/6 machines. We figured it would be easier on a weekday and I had the day off so I would start the first shift.
Let me say right here, that this is not fun. This is WORK. My back was sore from the day before and my throat was scratchy. But, I’ve got to work the promos when I have the time and when the advantage is there!
I’m trying to really concentrate, use both hands on the machine, sit up straight and play as fast as possible. If I doubled my initial $100 then I would bump to dollars. I was talking to my machine and pleading for a 4oak so I could bump to dollars!
A half hour after I sat down, I hold an Ace, Queen of Hearts and in pops the K, J, T for a $2K RF! I couldn’t believe it. I wasn’t expecting it and I started to shake. Woweee! Some of the loss back!
But, the 1500 points still had to be done. A RF is even better than a 4oak so I bumped to dollars. I had a really good run at dollars before I lost the $200 and dropped down to 50c again. That dollar run saved me some time at the machines and I appreciated it.
So, Rob arrives about 2pm as scheduled and I think there’s 400 points to go. I was pretty beat and had wanted to just have him relieve me and leave, but there was a machine open and I thought I could probably hang in there for another hour and we could bang it out.
He says we’ve got to get the quad bet up and gets the first quad. I’m like, here I go and get a RF for us and I’ll probably have to go to the ATM to pay the quad bet!
And then I say to him, “I hit another one” and he looks at me blankly and then looks up at the light at the top of my machine. I hit a SECOND ROYAL FLUSH holding AKT of diamonds!!! This is the second day in a row that I have hit two RFs on the same machine. But of course this is much, much better because today it is $2K as opposed to $200. We made almost all our losses back from yesterday. Woohoo! And my thought that 2011 is going to be lucky for me is a reality!
