Jan. 10-16 in my Favorite City!

Recently spent six nights w my friend, Joe, at a Flamingo FAB room, high roller view. We were on the 28th floor with a very nice view! The room was fine - cleaned each day, comfy beds, good sleeping; and oh so convenient to go in either direction at any given time! My only complaint was that free WIFI is supposed to be included in the resort fee; however it did not work from our room - (ever). I bugged them the first two days and they always said they'd be right up to look into it; but never came. Luckily i have an iPhone 6s so still had internet etc using my own data plan.

Rather than a day by day, I am going to limit this to highlights of the trip.

We went to three shows. On Monday we went to a 5:30 PM show at the Saxe Theatre at Planet Hollywood called "A tribute to the Beatles". It was very good; with them taking us through the early Beatles songs; during which Ed Sullivan made an appearance (!), then changing clothes/props for their next set from their psychedelic era; i.e. Lucy in the Sky w Diamonds; Strawberry Fields, I am the Walrus; and then changing once again for some later Beatles songs. The show was very enjoyable; we liked it alot!

Then on Tuesday we went to the 1 PM Mac King performance at Harrah's. Can't believe i waited this long to see him - soooooooo funny and it takes alot for me to think a comedian is good! Many, many heartfelt laughs!!

Wednesday was the highlight of our trip w John Fogerty performing at the beautiful Venetian Theatre. Unreal, awesome, fantastic OMG sooooo good! Among the top five EVER in my life!!! He's not lost a beat and i knew all songs but one!! Had fantastic seats and the sound and effects were unbelievable. We had dinner beforehand at an Emerill Lagasse restaurant just up the escalator at the end of the Palazzo casino called TABLE 10. We had the four course tasting menu, fantastic food, fantastic experience; all for only $48/person! All courses were regular-sized portions; for our main entree Joe had the salmon and i had the carmelized sea scallops. Both were excellent; and make sure to opt for Emerill's SIGNATURE banana cream pie for your dessert option! You can also opt for a wine pairing with each course for an extra $28. However, we didn't do that as we had stopped in to the Double Helix Wine Bar beforehand for a glass and then just had another with our meal.

On our first full day there (Monday), i was playing BJ at Treasure Island in the afternoon and the very nice looking man next to me asked if i was there for the concert. When i said no, who's playing, he said "My brother, Joe Nichols!" I was familiar though not a big fan as i don't listen to country music much anymore. In fact, the only song that came to mind right away was "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off"! Anyway, VERY FUN table that afternoon with just him and his friend and me!!

The other kind of fun thing was that on Tuesday night I was walking back to the Flamingo through Bally's (I had been playing BJ at Paris that night (which by the way i found a little stuffy, but i may have chosen the wrong table). I always took the crosswalk across Flamingo road that leads into the Cromwell valet. That night they had cop cars blocking off Flamingo Road for a good couple blocks and i could see i wouldn't be allowed to cross there, and that there was filming going on. After some questioning of Bally's security people (who were all over the place) I discovered they were filming the next in the "Bourne Identity" series. I asked a security person if i would see Matt Damon if i stuck around, but he told me he would not be there that night; they they were filming "practice jumps w stunts" this night! I talked to some young women later, who were watching from the pedestrian bridge, that had heard the same thing; and they told me Matt had been spotted at the ARIA several times in the last couple days. I can just about imagine the sweet suite he was put up in!

Good dining experiences besides TABLE 10 included the Grand Lux at the Venetian for breakfast, Cafe Bellagio for breakfast, Ellis Island for ribs, Ellis Island for breakfast (good and cheap but greasy); Harrah's buffet for dinner (so/so at best); and DUPARS at the Golden Gate for pancakes on Friday! We had been playing BJ at El Cortez and when we started getting hungry - this was what our BJ dealer recommended! Split the large stack - DELICIOUS and what a quaint little diner!! We ended up at the Food Court at Palms twice - I like playing BJ at the Palms. I am really liking the vibe at Palms on my last two trips, and seriously considering staying there on my next trip. I had alot of fun playing BJ at the Gold Coast one evening also - I had my best BJ session of the trip there on Thursday night. I was playing with a fun couple from Poughkeepsie, NY!

Only other highlights were a cocktail at the Chandelier Bar one afternoon. Also a trip to the RIO Wine Cellar on Thursday evening, where i had a delicious glass of Syrah (Tait the Ball Buster).

Also, it was fun riding on the deuce to downtown on Friday because we got upper level front row seats both ways, so got ourselves a nice little tour.

I had no luck gambling this trip - down $500 when i quit counting
My biggest wins were $50 at a penny slot on my first night at Ellis Island, and $50 on a penny slot at the Flamingo! ICK - how come i do so much better when practicing tables games at home on the computer??!!

Thanks for reading! Gail from MN

Great report, glad you enjoyed Fogerty, Joe Nichols had some hits a few years ago, love Dupars, planning a trip Feb 28-March5 we may try some of your eating places. Thanks again for a great report.
Thanks for your report, we went to see John Fogerty the same night and had a great time. Great place to see a show.

FREDFRED
Nice report, short and sweet, especially the food and show reports. You got around a lot!

I might try that Beatles show next time in.

We also love Mac King, always a dependable entertainment play.

Hooray for your 'almost' celebrity encounter...Joe Nichols' brother. I like country music and like him a lot.

As for coming out ahead on a gambling trip, it is getting to be...almost never!
But, we keep hoping. I hope do next time.

Nice report Gail - I'm going to have to do a little research on Table 10 - it really sounds fantastic.

Fogerty -- I am surprised to hear that he was THAT good. that sounds like a fair deal you had at Lagasse if you are into the celebrity chef thing. thx for reporting.
Thanks, Gail for the report! Sorry that gaming ended up being a loser.

DuPars is an institution in Southern California. I think that at least one of the Originals (in the Original Farmer's Market in Los Angeles) has been there since the 1940's.

I'm happy that you got to play some Blackjack at El Cortez since the Single Deck game there has decent rules for a low denomination level of play.

And thanks for the Beatles', John Fogerty and Mac King info!

Thanks Gail for the wonderful trip report and the recommendation for Table 10. Sounds like you had a really fun time.
Thanks everyone for all the nice responses! I'm ready to go back! Glad some of you will try Table 10 - I think you'll like it!
gailtherese - thanks for the TR.

We saw John Fogerty at Borgata a few years ago and it was a great show. If you grew up in that era don't miss John. Voice is as good as ever.
Also enjoyed Table10, we had a preshow dinner special not sure if it is the same.
Dupar's @ GG is an every trip stop. Love the pancakes, pastries also good
