My wife and I decided a few days after Christmas that we would take a trip to my favorite place on the planet. I had an offer from the Cosmopolitan for 4 free night and $250 in promo chips and we had enough miles on US Air to fly for free so we booked it.
We have a direct flight from Charlotte to Las Vegas, I love living in Charlotte we can fly direct to all of our favorite destinations. We live about 25 minutes from the airport, our flight leaves at 8 am and we have to drop the dogs off at the kennel which is next to the airport and be at the airport by 6am so we plan to get up at 4:30 and leave the house at 5.
The night before we leave we are on our way home from my daughters basketball game and the phone rings and my daughter, who is driving separate from us, has just wrecked her car so we rush to the scene she is trapped in the car, they have to cut her out, they think she has a broken arm and they take her to the hospital in the ambulance, well luckily she had no broken bones or any other injuries, no one else was injured either, they were so lucky so we are at the hospital until midnight and get home around 12:30 and start to pack and get everything together for the trip. So we get to bed around 2am. We get up, go to the kennel to drop the dogs off and when we arrive my wife realizes that she forgot to let the kennel know that we would be there before they open, so they would not open the door for us or answer the phone and we are freaking out! So we have to take the dogs back to our house and make arrangements for someone to come over and get them and take them to the kennel for us all of this at 5:30 am. We are stressed out, we go home and get back to the parking lot at the airport at 6:30 and the shuttle takes forever to pick us up. Finally and luckily there was not line a the security check point and we made to the gate just as they started boarding, the plane was packed not 1 empty seat. As we were rolling down the runway to take off my says "I hope all of this is no indication of how this trip is going to go for us". Well it did get better, it is Vegas it's always a great time.
Great flight slept most of the way, arrived 10 minutes early, baggage claim was quick and we were off to the rental car facility. The wait for the bus to the rental car facility was the longest I have ever seen, I thought the place was going to be jam packed but much to my surprise when we arrived the place was empty we walked right up to the rental counter at Firefox and got the car no wait at all. Finally our trip can get started.
We head directly to In-Out Burger for lunch and it was great as usual. Then we arrive at the Cosmo walk right in, no line, we are checked-in in less than 5 minutes. We have stayed here 3 times, I tried the $100 trick but the hotel is sold out so no upgrade to a wrap around terrace suite. Our room is nice, view was looking west at the Rio and the mountains with a partial view of the Bellagio Fountains.
The wife and I unpack and venture out we go across the street to Paris to play some BJ, I buy in at the $25 table for 300 I win the first the hand and it is down hill after that. I lost $1200 at Paris then we went to Planet Hollywood where I lost another $1000 so I am off to a terrible start. The rest of the day we casino hop and drink a lot and I hold my own on the BJ tables not winning anything but not losing anything. For dinner we went to the Wicked Spoon buffet, I used my buy1 get one coupon from LVA. We really enjoyed the meal lots of good seafood, sushi, Prime rib and desserts. Since we had such a long night the night before we left we were asleep by 8:00 but we had a really fun day. I finished the day down $2500.
I woke up pretty early, 4:30 am, and decided to find a Wal-Mart and get some supplies for the room so I venture out. I am not sure where I was but I went through Korea town and China town and finally get to Wal-Mart this was an interesting adventure. After driving around a while I made it back to the room around 6 and the wife and I decided to go downtown to Dupar's for breakfast The wife had an omelet of some sort and I had southern scramble which consisted of scrambled eggs hash browns and a lightly fried chicken breast smothered in southern style gravy and it was very good. I highly recommend Dupar's. After our meal we went to Bonanza the worlds largest gift shop, I have been coming to Las Vegas for 28 years and have always wanted to go so finally I got to check it out, if you have never been you should check it out, it is interesting to say the least. I cannot believe all of the crap they have for sale and I can't believe anyone buys this crap, although I did by a $12 T-shirt, I guess this is how they stay in business. After the gift shop we decided to go to the Hard Rock and go to the Adult Entertainment Expo. What an experience this was, I have been here 3 times when this was going on and this is the first time I have ever attended. We arrived at the Hard Rock about 11:30am and the expo didn't open until 1 so I played some BJ and ended up at a table with some porn star who's name I cannot remember but he did say he was popular in Japan and they called him Godzilla, the 1 female at the table asked him a lot of questions about why they called him Godzilla and eventually it got to the point where she asked to see IT !! at this point the dealer spoke up and said that he could not pull it out at the table and if he did he would be trespassed from the property, this was a very interesting encounter. The whole experience at the Hard Rock was really something to see lots of females wearing very little cloths, and behaving well like porn stars, this was a wild scene. If you are the adventurist type you might want to try this if you are in town, for the wife and I it was an interesting departure from our everyday life a once in a lifetime experience if you will. For the rest of the day we casino hopped and drank lots and I lost lots. After showering and getting ready for the night we casino hopped from the Cosmo down to the Palazzo where I played BJ and the wife shopped, after about an hour the wife found me at the BJ table and told me about this great Michael Kors pocket book she found and at about this time I went on a really nice run where I ended up winning $4000, soo the wife got her purse and we got a comp for dinner at the Grand Lux. We weren't quite ready to eat so we walked over to Wynn, crossing the bridge I decided to strike up a conversation with a homeless guy and we ended up taking him to dinner with us. We had buffalo chicken egg rolls and chicken lettuce wraps for appetizers and I had the perogies and she had the salmon and our homeless friend had shrimp scampi our dinner was great we really like the Grand Lux, we eat here every time we are in Vegas. Despite a $4000 win I finished the day down $3200 for the tip.
This is our last full day. The wife is having a spa day today at the M resort so we decided to go out to Green Valley Ranch for breakfast, we had never been here before this is a really nice resort, the buffet was good I had a buy 1 get one from LVA, the total was $10 a really good deal I think. After breakfast I dropped wife off at the M where I played for about an hour and won $300 then I went downtown and played at the Golden Nugget and Freemont where I lost $300 then I headed back to the M to pick up the wife where I played some more and ended up winning $400. We left the M and went to In-Out burger for lunch and then went over to Planet Ho where I proceeded to lose $2200 which puts me down $6000 for the trip. So we go back to the Cosmo and get ready for the night, it is my intention to hang out with the wife until she is ready for bed then stay up all night trying to get my $$$ back. So head over to the Orleans then to Luxor back to the Cosmo and over to Bellagio for dinner and finally the wife is ready for bed, I go up with her and then head out on my quest for winning. I decided to start a Paris and work my way up towards Wynn. Things go very well for me winning $300 at Paris, $700 at Cromwell, $1000 at Flamingo, $1200 at Ling, and $3300 at Harrah's. It is 4:45 am, I am now up $500 for the trip. I have to be back to the room at 7am to get ready and get to the airport so I decide to go over to TI where I trade $$ for a while and I leave here still up $500 for the trip and head back to the Cosmo it's 6am so I sit down to play and trade $$ for a while the end up losing $700 so now I am down $200 for the trip and I have 45 minutes left so I head across the street to Planet Ho to the high limit room where I proceed to trade $$ for a bit never up much never down much then I hit a cold streak and lose $1000. Time is up. Back to the room, shower, pack, downstairs to the Henry for breakfast which is very good but expensive, I had the Henry Breakfast which is 2 eggs, hash browns, bacon, sausage, toast the wife has a waffle with strawberries, again it was very good but $38 before tip and we didn't even order drinks we had water. So off to the airport where everything was crazy US air computers were down everyone had to be checked it the old fashioned way which took about 1 hr. 15 minutes so again a close call making our flight home. Flight was smooth slept the whole way. Looking forward to returning in August.
What a great adventure Las Vegas is, we always have a great time win or lose, and I feel very lucky to be able to go on these adventures. It seems every trip there is some kind of encounter that we end up remembering forever and this trip I think it will be The porn expo, and having dinner with a homeless guy who was a regular working guy, like most of us, who had a run of bad luck and ended up living on the streets in Vegas, if it weren't for a great wife and family I could be him. I love Las Vegas and I can't wait to go back.
