January trip - defied the odds by losing with MRB coupons- part 1

Flew out on US Airways and back on Southwest, using the last of my miles earned before retirement. Flight from Norfolk left at 5:15 AM and with a short layover in Charlotte, I was at McCarran by 10:30 Saturday morning. First two nights were at Excalibur courtesy of the MyVegas game. My plan was to stop by the LVA office Monday morning to buy the 2015 MBR book. I'm a really frugal traveller/gambler, so Gambling would be limited to poker until I had the book.

I bought my RTC 3-day ticket and headed off to Excalibur to drop off my luggage and then on to Palace Station to use the MyVegas free lunch buffet coupon and get my free t-shirt. I rode the monorail for the first time ever from MGM Grand to SLS with a MyVegas coupon. Much better than the Deuce bus.

The coupon was good for 2 buffets but I was travelling solo and expected the second lunch to go to waste. I was surprised that the cashier offered the second lunch to the older gentleman right behind me. We decided to share the table and had a pleasant time. The buffet is NOT recommended- nothing labelled and pretty low quality. Also, my advice is to skip the t-shirt offer unless you like a goth desin that will probably fall apart after a few washings.

Palace Station's poker room deals mostly 2-4 limit which I enjoy. A new game started shortly after I arrived. I played for about an hour as I had plans to try several Strip poker rooms before dinner. I did learn a lesson at this room and that's to never play poker on Super Bowl championship weekends! Sports books are usually near the poker tables and the noise level is insane. In addition, everyone in the poker room, including the dealers, are focused on football. Won a few doolars

Next stop was the Strasosphere. Forget about poker there. Grouchy players speaking a foreign language and a dealer who hated his job. 20 minutes and I was gone. Took the bus to Treasure Island. Not interested in 3-6 limit or 1-2 NL on day 1. On to Mirage but nothing of interest there either. Finally gave in and played 1-2 at Harrah's, losing $100 in 15 minutes. LINQ had a room (since closed) but no game. Played some 2-4 limit at Flamingo and won a few dollars. By now I was jet lagged and hungry so I Skipped my original plan to play at Bally' and/or Planet Hollywood and rescheduled for Sunday after church. I got a slice of pizza and checked in at Excalibur. Room was truly generic and could have been the Holiday Inn Dubuque - view of parking lot and I-15. Not really a problem as I fell asleep fast and slept through the night.

Stsy tuned for part 2 etc.

Thanks for Part 1 and I'm now looking forward to reading Part 2 and more Frugal Gambling! I know that coupons can go either way, but as long as you have an advantage with them, I'd say that they're worth taking on (although I understand that it might make things volatile for that part).
