My birthday trip was booked for July way back in April. We'd had some health issues with the pooch but we were optimistic. I was able to make my May trip with my high school friends, if you read my Mustangs take Las Vegas reports you know what a fantastic trip that was. A few weeks after the May trip the pooch had a checkup with the oncologist. Chest X-rays looked good but lymph node cytology was not clear so they had to repeat it. This one came back with signs of cancer. One June 10 we had the nasty lymph node removed and we were preparing for a few weeks of chemo. Dogs have a chemo drug you can give them at home that was formulated just for dogs. We were prepared to cancel our July trip but there was something that kept me from actually canceling any of our reservations. A week after surgery we got the results from the new test after the node was removed, no cancer, no chemo needed! Stitches came out a week later and the vet gave her the all clear, she was very happy with how she had recovered from surgery. So I asked hubby, dare we leave in 2 weeks or should I cancel. He said go for it, so we did!
Dropped the pooch at the puppy spa after I got home from work...still feeling like a bad mom for leaving my fur baby a month after surgery but when we got her to the puppy spa she went off with the kid that came up to get her and she didn't even look back at us! We left on 10th, the day after my bday, on the last nonstop out of AUS. Left on time at 8:20 and arrived at 9:05 Vegas time. I had decided to try to shake up my pre Vegas ritual this time to see if it changed my luck. Instead of my baileys and coffee on the plane I had a Bloody Mary. Dang, it was strong....I should have had more than a p b & j that day before that drink!
Sean from Presidential was waiting for us. Bags came off and we were off, first stop the CVS by Hard Rock for diet dr. Pepper for hubby and a diet 7up for me. We were in the diamond check in by 9:45. Random thought......why does the diamond check in at PHo close at 6 and the one at Paris not til 10? When we checked in they give me a yummy dessert for my bday. We were off to our room on the 27th floor, a red room with a beautiful view of the pool, Eiffel Tower and fountains. We unpack and decide to run eat at the new Buca cafe at Ballys. Not impressed. Service was at a snails pace and I think the grilled chicken that was on my sandwich was one of those pre formed frozen grilled chicken patties. Not very tasty. Hubby had a sandwich that was marginal. Then we couldn't charge it to our room because they say their computer wasn't set up to do that yet. We got new cards at the Paris TR desk before we went to eat, another thing to hopefully change our luck. We head to to high limit slots and play for a few hours not really doing much of anything. We each accumulated 500 tc's so we got our 125 bump for the first day. If you've read other reports of mine you're familiar with hubby's top dollar strategy, if someone walks off after a bonus you have to play the machine, it will hit again. Let's just say I found that to be true about 20% if the time this trio as opposed to 80% in May. Hubby in the other hand had better odds than I did. After playing at Ballys we went to Paris to say hi to pit boss Andrew then hit the $5 top dollar in the champagne slots the off to bed around 1:30. We were both down about $500 when we went to bed. Boooo. Another random thought, we were facing Chateau this trip and really can't say I noticed much of the thump thump of the base from the club. Nice!
After a great nights sleep, love the beds in the red rooms, we were up and out of the room by 9:30. We skipped the line at the cafe at Paris, thanks to the diamond card. We were seated "inside". I tease my hubby, the only place he'll eat "outside" is in Vegas, and that's not really outside at the cafe, is it? We both had their 3 egg breakfast, it was good as always and nice to be able to charge it to the room. After breakfast we cab it to the Wynn. We hadn't been there since we had our anniversary dinner there a year and a half ago. I took pics of the hot air balloon, carousel and flower balls hanging from the trees. We find some slot machines and play and wander. Top dollar $$$, Tracy $0. Hubby had better luck. I did find a cute penny machine calle OMG Puppies that I got a really cute bonus on. I didn't win much at Wynn but it was a nice change of pace. Had a pretty tasty raspberry lemon drop playing pennies. I then asked a security guy where the Popeye statue was so we head that way. Lo and behold it's right by the Louis Vuitton store, darn! Hubby bought me a nice evening bag for Christmas and I've been using a small Michael Kors wallet when I've carried it so I needed a small wallet that matched. You ladies will understand that, right? The sales lady showed me 5 different ones and I made my selection and looked at my hubby and said, "well?" and he said "why are you asking me, you're buying it", so I picked one and then asked to see money clips. Hubby doesn't carry a wallet. I asked him which he preferred and he pointed so I said well take it, so we both got something for my birthday! He's a really good man, he indulges me a lot! While she was running my card, he changed out his money clip to the new one and said thanks, then he went to get my champagne released from the LV hostage room. They took it from me when I walked in and put it in a little closer, I guess they thought I'd spill it! Next stop Encore, boy that place is RED! We didn't stay long p, we got s cab and went back to lock my new wallet in the safe. We had a real nice cabbie, she was from Croatia. After sitting on the strip for awhile she asked if it was ok to drop us at the back entrance of Paris instead of the front, it would be faster. We said fine and gave her a nice tip for not making us sit in traffic.
After we out our stuff in the safe we went to get hubby's $150 in free play and ran it through some $1 machines by then champagne slots, didn't do much there. I wanted to go to the diamond lounge at PHo for a strawberry daiquiri so we went to PHo. Before we went up we both bought in for $200 at a 3 card table. After losing about $100 we decided to move, we had played high card flush with the dealer a few months ago and she was sort of annoying. We moved to the 3 card table next to the high card flush table with our $100 in chips. Hubby was at first base, I sat next to him and there was a lady in the last seats that was from Canada. She wasn't overly friendly but it we had a good time. I ended up buying in for another $100 but hubby was winning and cashed out several hundred ahead. It was about 6:30 so we went to the DL for a drink and snack. Missed the hot food by a half hour, oh well. They had some July 4 th specialty drinks so I ordered something that had champagne, chambord and some other raspberry liqueur in it, it was ok, should had had the daiquiri I wanted. Hubby drinks bud light but opted for something called a firecracker....ended up getting a bud light since the drink was weird. After our drinks we went to Aria, we hadn't been in awhile. We played a little outside the high limit slots then went in the HL room. There was a $10 top dollar, 3 coin machine in there, and it had hit and someone walked away. Hubby looks at me and says lets each put $100 in so I out my card in the machine and we out our money in. We hit a bonus after a few spins and win a few hundred. We get a few more bonuses and then boom, bonus and the one we accept locks the machine up, the light comes on and the call attendant comes across the screen. A nice lady asks me how I want my money, cash or check, I say cash. She asks for my drivers license and ssn, yes, you got it my FIRST hand pay! It was only $1,200 but I was thrilled. After getting paid we play some more and hit a few more bonuses and eventually cash it out at 3,700, a nice profit of $3,500 for us to split. That, with hubby's win at PHo put him up $1,000 at the end of the day, me still down but just $300.
We were really hungry but this time, it was 8:30 so we thought we'd see if we could get a table at Mastros without a reservation. They seated us at a table in the bar. I spotted our waiter Paul from our March trip and he came by and said hello. Asked what was up and I said we were in town for my bday. Hubby had steak, I had grouper, both were wonderful. We split the scalloped potatoes, very good as always. After we ate the waiter brought out this giant piece of chocolate cake with a candle in it and happy bday Tracy on the plate, Paul had told our waitress that it was my bday, so nice! That's why we love Mastros, their service is impeccable. We ended up taking half the cake to the room, we were stuffed. We did have a little snafu, the waitress told hubby his card was declined. Very strange, so he had a boatload of cash from his winnings so he just paid cash. When we got back to our room he called the credit card co. to ask the problem and they said they didn't even show that it had been swiped at Mastros. That was just weird. After dinner we dropped the cake off in the room and went back to Ballys to slot around, not really doing much. We really didn't give CET much slot play that day but we both got the 125 bump on Saturday. I think we packed it in around 1:00.
The weather was wonderful for July, they had a cool snap, only 1 day we were there did it reach 100! That was really nice.
More to come. Thanks for reading and please excuse the typos, I'm doing this from my iPad.
