For those of you who've had a lot of cruise experiences, what's the base appeal and what aspects do you look forward to? We've got cruise offers from gambling efforts but we've never taken the first one.

For my wife and I, it's about the itinerary and where the cruises go. Is it places we've wanted to see and will it work in our time frame? There are plenty of activities on the ship when not in port, and we sail on Princess, which has really good food and service. Food, other than specialty (steakhouse, Italian, etc) dining are included. Specialty dining, alcohol, daily gratuties and wifi are extra, but Princess has all inclusive packages for $65 or $100 per day, that can be purchased. We do get some pretty good cruise discounts and free play from our land and cruise casino play.
To put it into perspective, we are leaving for a Caribbean Cruise starting from Orlando on Sunday. For our flights from Cali to Orlando, our hotel (Hilton Honors.....Tom knows what's up!) stays pre and post cruise, all of our shuttle service, a balcony room, with upgrade to Princess Plus ($65/daily for alcohol, sodas, gratuties and wifi), the entire amount for a 7 day Caribbean Cruise (Nassau, Bahamas, Amber Cove, Dom. Rep, and Turks and Caicos) is $3100 for both my wife and I.

OK. I 've heard and assume that there are big differences in packages , services, and excursion options between cruise lines. Thanks for all the input on it..maybe one of these days.

Maybe you don't want my opinion, but for me, it's where the ship is going, and the onboard amenities and activities are almost irrelevant. I want to go to places I could only access by ship: Alaska Panhandle, Greek islands, Baja Sur, and so forth.
There are definitely differences, even within the same cruise line, regarding whether it's about the journey or the destination(s). Some cruises are all about being pampered in a floating hotel. Others are about being a tourist. You can pretty much tailor your experience as you wish, with all the choices out there.
I have been on a lot of Cruises. Here and Europe.Just relaxing all inclusive.Nevertheless has changed. Now extra for drinks and WI-FI.

I don't mind your opinion at all on travel / Vegas options..as long as the political crap is nowhere to be seen.
Thanks Patsy.

As long as YOU solemnly pledge not to EVER insert any of YOUR "political crap"...fine.
And if you "mind" something, I will immediately commit seppuku...or, I'll just shrug.

I don't have a habit of posting political crap outside the Sink sewer.
