Labor Day Weekend- 8/28 to 9/2

Sunday,  August 31st, wife's birthday.  Started off going to the Eureka for breakfast and it didn't disappoint.  Wife had the breakfast sandwich and I had the sausage burrito.  New member sign up netted us each $25 FP after playing $25.  I got $10 FP and $10 dining credits for the 55 and over Senior Sunday,  while wife got $10 FP and $15 dining credits for herbl birthday promo. Using the bogo LVA coupon and some dining credits, a $5 tip was all breakfast cost. Score!

Wife parlayed her FP into $100 profit thanks to a nice Mo Mummy bonus and I netted $60 playing Cleopatras Wild Tiles.

Next stop was Ellis Island to meet up with our son.  He and his buddy went to a 2000's night at Area 15. He said they had a great time.

We met at the slot club to get our cards, and redeem the LVA coupon for the two specialty drinks with the purchase of two appetizers at Frontyard.  Son and his buddy got the two apps, while wife and I had the drinks.  We got two lemon berry loves.  Supposed to have vodka,  but couldn't actually taste any.   Not worth the $14 they usually cost.  Not impressed with the Frontyard.  Took over 20 minutes to get the drinks and over 30 minutes to get the apps.

Wife and I played some.   She got $10 in FP for her birthday and I got $10 with another LVA coupon.  Firecracker game was good to me for another $60 profit.  Wife wanted Krispy Kremes for her birthday,  so a drive to Warm Springs Rd. was in order.

After getting some donuts the 4 of us hit up Orleans to use our FP.  Didn't realize it was a pick em gift day.  I had a nice run on Mo Mummy and Cleopatras Wild Tiles for a $100 profit, and went down $40 playing VP at one of the bars while my wife and the guys played blackjack.  Son and wife lost a hundo while my son's buddy made $50. They joined me at the bar for some VP and a drink.

My wife checked her account and noticed she earned not just one,  but two gifts.  I had the same thing.  There were a number of different gifts,  so we got 3 insulated backpack coolers and a digital scale.

Headed back to the Westgate for dinner at the Silk Road Asian Bistro,  but they were closed.  Supposed to be open on Sundays, but nope!  Even the bartender at the International Bar was surprised.  Decided to head down to the sportsbook deli for food.   Wife still had some food credits. We got pizza and garlic knots for myself and the guys,  while my wife had the chicken strips and fries. We sat at the Sportsbook Bar to eat,  play VP and have some drinks. I did hit a 4oak in kings to eek out a $40 profit. Winning even a bit is better than losing.

After eating we left the guys at the bar and used the last of the FP I had from the tournament.   We played wicked winnings and the firecracker game.  Parlayed the $300 FP into $220 cash, before heading back to the timeshare for the night.

Overall, was able to turn the $3000 FP into just over $2800.

Always nice to have some winnings before you return to the classroom.  How did you do at the Sahara?  I was in LV last Wednesday and went there to use my birthday spin.  I got $5 to use at a food location.  However, I did use my LVA $10 free play coupon for some VP on one of the 6 machines that I can find and hit a straight flush on quarters.  Thanks Anthony.  Take care and have a great school year.

My modest goal for free play is to turn it into at least 90% real cash. That's why I always run it through VP machines, playing low-volatility games like JOB or Bonus. I really hate the idea of burning up $100 in FP and cashing out only $30 or something like that.

I know slots are fun, but I just can't bring myself to play them. The combination of a horribly high house edge AND hundreds of decisions per hour makes it deadly, and to me, very unpleasant. How many times have you gone through fifteen or twenty spins with very little, or no, payout? That is the definition of no fun.

This is not to ignore the fact that slots are exquisitely engineered to attract us and then keep us playing and playing and playing and playing. "Intermittent gratification," first used scientifically on chimpanzees, is the best way to persuade humans to keep repeating an action. I wonder if any of the casinos have ever considered giving out bananas to slot players?

Great trip Edso,  Thanks for the report.  Which firecracker game were you playing, I think there are 5 different ones right now. The one with the train and the one with 4 different strings seem to be the most popular right now.

For some reason didn't have FP or food credits,  but lady at the slot club said we would have it on the 2nd.  We'll see.

Played the train one today, for first time and I really like the 4 different choices one.   Mostly play the one with 3 choices,  Ultra,  double and extra.

Edso, curious about the Westage.  Used to stay there when it was the Hilton.  How are the rooms now?  How easy/hard is it to get comps or at least discounted rooms.

Stopped by last year for the Jen Kramer Show and to eat at Beni's.  Enjpyed both.

Comps aren't too hard to get and it seems that any decent play gets comped rooms. The rooms were renovated after Westgate took over from the LVH, and it's been an ongoing process.   We like them just fine.

Monday,  Sept. 1- started the day with a workout in the timeshare fitness center.   Breakfast was in the room. Krispy Kremes for my wife and a protein shake and donut for me.

Went to meet our son and his buddy at the Westgate to check out.  Everything went well and host took care of all the room charges,  about $100 after the food comps were taken out.   Son and his buddy left to head home.

We were going to do a downtown coupon run,  but decided to drive to Summerlin to check out some new casinos.  First stop was the Rampart.

We got our players cards and just jumped around to some new slots.  We each lost about $300, ouch.  They do have a new player FP offer depending on how many points you earn.   Wife and I each played through the FP with no good hits. Nice note here was that the cocktail waitresses came around a lot.

Casino #2 was right next door: the Suncoast.   This is a Boyds Casino,  so we are familiar with the comps and such with our play at the Orleans.  Walked around and each lost $100 before deciding to leave.

Last casino on the tour was the Red Rock.  We were hungry,  so we ate at Rubios since we both were in the mood for burritos.   2 chicken burritos set us back $22, but they were pretty good.

Red Rock has lots of the old slots we like,  so we both ended up losing about $200 each, but had a nice time.  Waitresses came by pretty frequently.  We went to Panda Express there and got some orange chicken to take back to our room for dinner. By far our worst gambling day in a while,  but still up overall with the tourney free play we converted to cash.

We really liked the Rampart, and will visit again.

We headed back to the timeshare and had leftover fried rice from the Westgate and orange chicken for dinner.  Ended the night drinking some champagne and watching a movie.

Tomorrow is our last morning before heading home.

Thanks, we always liked the pool & fitness ctr.

We used to stay there when we went for trade shows.

Might take them up on their 3/$99 offer which I assume includes a time share presentation but I know how to get rid of them.

Would be nice to get your impressions of the place.
