Las Vegas Trip 10/6 - 10/13 part 2

Wednesday – Well today we needed to find the chamber of commerce. The Las Vegas Review Journal had posted free tickets to an extreme couponing event. I had signed up for it, and downloaded the tickets. Using the GPS in my cell phone, we landed at a large shopping plaza on South Las Vegas Boulevard. After navigating the streets up and down in the shopping center, I noticed the sign for the place on the face of a building. I found a metered parking spot and in we ran for the event. I am not a coupon person – but my sister is! I promised to attend the event and bring her home some information, and would see if perhaps there were books for sale that may help her. Well, we got off the elevator, and a lovely lady who asked if she could help us greeted us. I explained that we were there for the coupon event. She said, oh that’s wonderful, except it was YESTERDAY!! Oh no!!!! I got the dates mixed up…….. we hung our heads and got back on the elevator.

Where do you want to go??? Let’s go to the Gold Coast, we both like it there. We arrived and found seats at the bar. John once again made his first 20 dollar bill last and last. I, of course, went through money like it was plucked from the tree in my front yard. I just could not catch anything on Keno or Video poker. I also tried some different penny slots to no avail. After a couple of hours, I wanted to head to Terribles. We got there and was able to last a while on our initial cash, that was a nice change for me. Neither of us hit anything, but the drink service was good.

For dinner on Wednesday we had planned to try a restaurant called Hofbrauhaus which is a German restaurant. We have often driven by it but never had tried it. We expected it to be much larger than it was. They do have a lovely gift shop inside. We both ordered the pork dinners that came with a large doughy dumpling and some al dente veggies. It was quite good, but not exceptional at all. Would I go back there again? No. I think in my head, it was going to be so much bigger and better than it actually was, so I was kind of disappointed.

We headed back to the Rio after dinner and tried our luck again on the keno machines, getting nothing L.

Thursday: Today is the day we planned to meet up with J and S. They are both from our home state of MA and now are living the dream in Henderson. We met them at their new home, in an over 55 community. What a cute house they have!!! Just perfect for the 2 of them. Today they took us to all their favorite locals casinos. We ended up visiting 4 different places: 2 I cannot remember the names, but my favorite was the Emerald Isle Casino. All the machines here are pennies and are multi denominational so you can play higher stakes if you want. They had a special – 200 points and you pick a gift. J and S got extra cards for us and we helped them get their points for their gifts. At quarter of 6 PM, I noticed that suddenly the casino was filling up. My thought was, “oh all the people getting out of work have wandered in now.” What I didn’t know was: 6 PM and out comes the free food – Meatball subs for all! They love their locals here, free food, free dinners during the week, free gifts much of the time, anything to keep you coming back. I like a place that lets you feel like you are appreciated. Earlier, they had treated us to the buffet at the Fiesta Henderson. I like it there also, as I tend to play in any and all station casinos. The payback percentage tends to be good in them, and we always get free room offers from them for our Vegas trips.

It was a fun filled day, and I was sorry to see the day end.

Friday – our last full day in Vegas. We decide to head back to Palace Station, we are both comfortable playing there, and we tend to do well there. As we arrived to park, we noticed much of their flat parking lot space was taken up by tents and campers. They were having a dog show!!!! Lots of dogs, lots of vendors selling dog items. We had fun walking around and shopping for our 2 dogs at home. Once inside the place, it was a bit strange seeing people with dogs in the casino.

One thing I want to mention about dogs – this is the first trip we have seen people with dogs in the casino and in hotel rooms. Many of the rooms on our floor at the Rio had door hangers that said “Dog in Room” instead of Do Not Disturb. I am not used to seeing that in Vegas.

Since the flat lot was taken up by the RVs and kiosk tents, we had to park in the garage. I parked next to a big Lexus SUV. When we came out of Palace station to get in the car, I noticed immediately that there was a small dent on the passenger side door. Obviously someone had opened their door hard against the car. Hubby kept insisting that it was minor and no one would notice. Well I noticed!!!!! All that flashed through my head was the fact that they could bill me for 90 days while they fixed the ding……..I was sick over it. Our last day, and this had to happen!

We drove back to the Orleans, and had the buffet there for dinner. We usually visit their buffet once per visit. I was surprised to find no coupon for it this year in the MRB. Bummer!! It amazes me that so many people love those crayfish. I think they are too much work for the amount of meat you get from them, I’ll pass, thanks. Then we moved to one of the bars and played for a bit on the bar tops. Up and down, but no royals, no 6/6 no 7/7. But it was fun to play all the same. And the drinks were good too.

We headed back to the Rio, hitting those keno machines once again, final chance to win my fortune, but it was not to be. We went up to the room to get to bed early as we are heading home tomorrow.

Saturday – Okay. Who was stupid enough to book a 6 AM flight out of Vegas ??? Oh, that would be me. Which meant we had to be up at 3 AM and out of the room at 3:30 AM to return the dent mobile to the Payless lot. Sure enough, at 3:30 AM, the person did not notice the ding, and gave me my receipt that said “no damage”. Hubby said, “See I told you they would not notice it, they expect that kind of stuff to happen” Off I walked to the booth to get a copy of the receipt and a copy of the slip that said “no damage” which I safely tucked away. No lines at the airport, easy to get through security, and on to our gate and to finally find some coffee!!!!

Coffee place does not open till 5 AM……. I stand first in line and wait. John wants me to sit down, but I tell him I am not moving till I get some coffee. By the time they open the line has 40 people in it, all blurry eyed and not pleasant due to coffee deprivation.

Uneventful and on time flight brings us home to Manchester NH at 4:10 PM. Sorry that the week went so fast. Glad to be home.

Final tally: brought envelopes of gambling money for 5 days – if needed could ATM the last 2 days. Came home with 2 envelopes full meaning we had spent only 3 days money over the 7 days we were there. That’s a win in my book. We had a great time, and don’t know when we can go back. Next fall, I would like to head to Disney with our 7 year old granddaughter. We fill in the gaps with trips to Atlantic City, better than nothing, although they are pulling the video keno machines out of the casinos there, for some reason. In Vegas they are plentiful, and people love them, I wish AC would pay attention to this fact.

Sorry this was so long. Thanks for reading!!!
Not long at all.Good read. Thanks for writing.
Great read. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, that was not that long at all and thanks again for posting it!

As for removing Video Keno in AC, maybe the casinos think that not enough people are playing them to make it worth their while to have them.

I'm happy that the rental place didn't notice (or write up) the new ding!

And as for being able to use about 42% (3 out of 7 days) of the money that you brought for 7 days of play, that's definitely not too bad!
