Laughlin NV. Trip 10/24/13 - 10/28/13

Laughlin Trip Oct 24-28

This is our first trip report, so be kind in your remarks, this report is being prepared by Bobby (retired after 43 years in the Auto Ins. Industry) and Martie who works in Risk Management. We have been married 19 years, and have enjoyed 40 + trips to Vegas, Laughlin, and Reno. This is our 5th trip to Laughlin booked through Casino International/Harrahs. This is our first flight on Republic Air, the prior flights have been on Allegiant Airlines.

10-24-2013 Take a Taxi to the airport (more expensive but we believe it is more convenient).

Everytime Bobby goes to Bergstrom it's like a homecoming since he was stationed there in the Airforce from Dec 1959 to Dec 1962.
Check in was smooth and we are assigned seats 16 a and c, security check was slow but steady, buy reading material, dine on pretzel dogs and root beer. Drink a few beers meet a nice young man from the Chicago area who organizes running events. Flight leaves from Austin 25 minutes late at 5:05 pm (why??) and we arrive in Bullhead City Ariz. 15 minutes late, bus shuttle to Harrahs, receive card and keys packet. Now the fun begins.

Bobby plays 98% video poker, 2% slots, Martie plays 80% video poker 20% slots. We settle in at the bar order our beers , pull out our E cigarettes (reformed smokers) playing .25 to $1, Bobby plays Double Bonus , Martie plays Double Double Bonus. After gambling for 5 or 6 hours, we eat at the Hotel. Our room is on the 8th floor, room 10840, we have a nice view of the Colorado River, beach and pool. Bobby hit 4 9's $1 DB and Martie hit 4 5's on .25 DDB, drink service was good, casino was very crowded possibly because of Gladys Knight concert on Oct 25 & 8 charter flights Oct24-28 courtesy of Harrahs. Fun day lights out at midnight.

10-25-2013 We always plan to sleep late but it never happens , up around 8 am, (10 am Austin time) have breakfast bars and coffee we will repeat that each morning. On our last two trips we bring a 5 cup coffee pot and all the trimings, and leave them to housekeeping upon our departure. (got the idea from message boards on Las Vegas Advisor) Bobby went down to gamble around 10 am, makes three $25 three team parlays, (results later) on our trips during football season we always make parlay bets and ocassionallly get lucky. Martie arrives 30 minutes later and we have our traditional two each Bloody Marys, Bobby mild Martie wild. Gambled at Harrahs until 3 PM not much luck, ate at the hotel.

We took the water taxi to the Aquarius Casino, we have gambled there in the past with some luck, booked room so we could get an idea of possible future accommodations. Very reasonable rate, no river view but room and casino are nice but dated the hotel did not appear to be as busy as Harrahs.
After checking in we picked up our players cards and gambled at various bars and around casino Martie won $200 on a penny slot, Bobby hit four 6's on $1 DB poker. We really liked the hotel and casino. Mona provided the best cocktail service on this trip and was tipped accordingly. Decided not to spend the night but to check out the next day, good idea see why later.
Took a taxi back to Harrahs gambled at the bar, Gary, the bartender did a super job. Bobby hit four 5's on $1 DB, Martie hit four 7's on .25 & $1 DDB and four K's $1 DDB. Decided to go to the High Limit Room to escape the crowded casino and play some $1 DDB together to relax, chill, and preserve our gambling budget. Martie chose the machine and it let us play with house money for quite a while, we were dealt two Aces, held and wow two more Aces and a kicker came up, can you say $2000, super duper. We were paid by Terry (customer services) and Jason Slot Supervisor (more later on both of thee gentlemen) tipped $100 and played the machine quite a while longer and enjoyed a few more beers. Picked up snacks and was in our room by 11 pm.

10-26-2013 Lite breakfast and coffee in our room, Bloody Marys and gambling at bar, took water taxi to Aquarius to check out, gambled for a few hours, Martie hit four Aces on DDB Poker we then took the water taxi back to Harrahs. We ate a real breakfast at the 24 hr. restaurant ( we certainly are not foodies) and gamble until 10 PM.
10-27-2013 Bobby goes down around 9 am to check on his three parlays, oh my 0 for 3, miss one parlay by half a point . Thats okay when we hit one it pays well. we had our Bloody Marys and gambled at bar, we took the water taxi to Riverside Casino. I have read and heard a lot about Riverside and the founder Don Laughlin and it is quite interesting. The water taxi was driven by a charming gentleman and he gave us a running narative on each casino, its location and a brief history of each. One of the passengers was a lady talking constantly and loudly on her cell phone, as we neared the Riverside she finished her call and asked (again loudly) what was the "last" casino. The driver replied the he had told her twice and would not repeat himself. Everyone on the water taxi erupted in laughter (except for her) gave him high 5's as we disembarked.

We picked up our players card and found out that Riverside has charter flights from Austin, super good to know, and we may use them the future. Casino was very busy, we played at bar without any big wins, service was good, had hot dogs at snack bar. We liked Riverside it was very blue collar but we're from South Austin so we like blue collar. We took the water taxi back to Harrahs. The driver was a young man with his wife and cute young boy and girl was on board. The Colorado River is so beautiful and clean and we are always entertained on the water taxis.
Returned to Harrahs and gambled mostly at the bar , Bobby hit back to back four '6s & four K's on $1 DB poker, and .25 Royal Flush. Jason visited with us again giving us good info for our future visits, also Jessica Lee (Casino Host?) introduced herself. Up to bed at 10pm.
10-28-2013 Up at 6 am, luggage pull at 7:30 am, bars, coffee, Bloody Marys, Martie had a $200 hit on penny slot Dragons twice. We took the shuttle to airport and I was chosen for a random search, my wild green Merrell shoes taken by a TSA agent for intensive inspection but finally returned to me. I guess they looked suspicious. Our flight home was quiet and on time, taxi home two tired but happy people. We could have stayed a little longer and that is unusual.

Thoughts on Trip
* Gambling, returned with 80% of gambling money
* Best room we've had in Laughlin by far.
* Enjoyed visits to Aquarius and Riverside will visit in future
* Did not visit Colorado Bell and Tropicana have in past will in past and enjoyed it.
* Again some people on flight rented cars and drove to Vegas (maybe next time???)
*Terry, Gary great service, Jason Orosco was fantastic and interesting.
* 2014 Vegas or Laughlin, love Vegas but airfares keep increasing and Laughlin airfare is free
* Harrahs, comps beside room and airfare still baffle us.
* Start saving money for our next trip hopefully in February for Bobby's Birthday or Spring of 2014.
* This is one of the best trips we have taken in awhile. It was very nice to come home not feeling beat up financially.
Hope you enjoyed,
Bobby and Martie (South Austin Texas)

Thanks for a very fine trip report - well written, informative & entertaining. And thanks for taking the time to share your experiences with the rest of us. Keep 'em coming!
Thanks for the report and good going on coming home with 80% of your money as well as for the nice hits that you got!

Maybe they have LV turnaround junkets like they have had Laughlin turnaround junkets from LV. So maybe you should check into that or you can rent a car and just drive there.

Thank you for sharing. If you read my reports, you know I'm in Laughlin many times every year. You didn't mention what card level you are with Harrahs. I'm going to guess that you're either Gold or Platinum based on your report of sitting and drinking at the bar, nor did you mention the Diamond Lounge.

If your are not Diamond, perhaps consider next time going for it. If you're a $1 VP player, you can make Diamond in a Day for 3000 tier points. Or you could play a couple of days at 2500 tier points (getting a bonus 5000 tier points) and you'd be Diamond. Since you're a couple, both use on person's card as all the Diamond benefits are for couples anyway.

Just a suggestion.
Thanks to everyone for your kind words. sionow We are Platinum and Gold, for 3 or 4 years we were Diamond , in our next trip we plan to follow your suggestions. As a side note we have the same birthday, Feb 11 again thanks for the kind words and suggestions.
