Local Luck - Harrahs Ak-Chin

The weekend began with my quest to leave Phoenix before the freeways became a Friday afternoon parking lot. At 3 pm, parts of the 101 were stop and go and eventually opened up and I arrived at Ak-Chin shortly before 4. Was able to check in and get a room in the original hotel, 2nd floor facing the pool. I had just enough time to drop my stuff in the room, take care of some business at total rewards and meet the Twiddles at 4:20. I get my car and drive over to the bus entrance near the buffet to pick them up. I knew they’d be playing the monopoly machines inside that door. I’m feeling pretty good as I am on time. I pull in front of the bus leaving lots of space and call them to let them know I am out front. Ten minutes and no answer later; I give up and park the car in that area. Our evening begins with me going inside and the first words out of my mouth are “Why don’t you answer your phone? I’ve been outside waiting for you.” “We left the phone in the car. It doesn’t work inside.” “It will work by the door.” Okay, let’s go.” I then bring the car around to make things easier for Mr. T. On the drive to Chandler, I hand Mrs. T. my phone and spell out a text to Friedmush to let them know we are on our way.

I know, I know, I’m such a polite kid Although I was annoyed, I still gave Mrs. T. the pretty bracelet I had saved for her, and told Mr. T. that if I ever go to an event that has girly guy gifts, I’ll get one for him. Word of caution, if you ever go on a road trip with them, understand they attract getting lost and interactions with AZ’s finest, a fact they are quite proud of. During the meet, the topic of driving to Vegas and the new bypass road in Wickenburg came up. Mr. T mentioned how he finds the traffic circles confusing. He then told the story of how he cut off an officer because he was confused and was pulled over. Mrs. T chimed in telling how she got out of the car, just started talking, and earned an Oscar for playing the role of a little ole lady, a tactic that ultimately prevented them from being cited. Later she told me she knew she shouldn’t have gotten out of the car and felt she needed to do something to diffuse the situation.

It was great seeing the Friedmush’s as it’s been way to long. Our meet was lots of fun and I’m sorry our other friends had things come up and were not able to attend. Pestos is known for their white pizza and I believe someone received a text of the pretty pizza. Pestos is also known for its happy hour. This is what happens when bubbly meets pizza or pizza meets bubbles.

Back at Ak-Chin, we had time to enjoy cocktails in the diamond lounge before our dinner at The Range. They’ve redid the menu and sides are now included with the entrée and the food is quite good. I revisited the DL before it closed at 11 and had a couple of cosmos.

My original plan was to play light on Friday and play heavy on Sat. As you might guess, that didn’t happen. I wasn’t doing well at first and played through the fsp in my bank. I managed to get the 25 points to earn my 3000 bonus reward credits and continued to play. This 4-of-a-kind was the turning point for the trip.

Afterwards, I played a 2c slot called Queen of Atlantis which used to be my favorite machine. I timed it right and quickly hit 5 of the highest paying symbols for $100, and continued to do well and cashed out a $200 profit. From that point forward, I hit $100; play through a $100, built my credits back to $100 and repeat. I lost complete track of time and dragged my butt to bed at 4 am and earned 510 tier points mostly playing penny slots.

For some crazy reason, I woke up at 7, had a headache and fortunately fell back to sleep. I am really glad I booked a room for 2 nights as I slept till 12:30 pm and took my time getting ready for the day. I pretty much moved at turtle speed Saturday and am grateful I didn’t have to be anywhere or do anything.

The casino was pretty busy. I played a little VP and nothing. Usually, when I play VP, if I’m going to hit something, I hit it right away but I don’t grind away. I walked into the non-smoking area, saw a new slot. It said play me. I walked away and heard it calling my name. I went back and started playing. It’s one of these machines that sometimes have mystery symbols. I knew I hit something good because of the pattern of the mystery symbols and how they were connected by one of the wild symbols. I was shocked when the blue squares revealed free spin symbols and I earned 288 free spins. The game is called Myan Chief or Chef and is similar to China Shores Xtra rewards where you have double symbols in the middle column.

I soon moved a similar machine on the other side, Lion Festival and quickly got 8 free spins. Free spin #1 rocked!

Because the casino was packed and everything I wanted to play was being played, I called it an early night.

Sunday, I played for 3 hours before check out and finally hit a good bonus, gold turtles, on China Shores Xtra rewards. The credits were still adding as I took the photo.

I then played a new 2 cent machine that someone won on Sat and hit this during the free spins for $300.

I went back to Myan Chief, didn’t feel right, and played Lion Festival. It was generous. I finally had a good run playing 10cent DDB STP, lost on penny buffalo and everything else I tried, earned 322 tier points, got my 3000 bonus reward credits ,called it a day and left +$400.00.

I really am a polite kid. I left on-time and enjoyed brunch with The Twiddles. After brunch, I set up her new computer, helped her figure out the basics and saved her the cost of tech support.

Very nice! Thanks Miss Lisa for the report and congratulations on your nice hits!

Thank you Rec. Hope you enjoy your next trip to Vegas.
Nice TR Lisa. I'm strictly a vp player so all of the pics of the slots befuddle me. I can't tell the diff between a big win and nada. I've heard, though, that adding a bit of slot play to vp play increases the offers, so I'm going to have to find something that doesn't require much thought ... something like the basic WOF.

Thanks, Fredo.
Some of the new machines now tell you when you have a win, big win or super big win, LOL. Very few slot machines require thought. Just decide how many credits you wish to play and hit spin.
Nice wins!
Congrats! Save it for Vegas!!
Some wonderful hits on the 2-cent machines. Looking at the schedules, I can see the Ak-Chin still is pretty stingy with their VP.

You didn't mention it, but I'm assuming you end up with a winning trip...

Just can't see myself eating white pizza...but I suppose I should try it somday.

Thanks!
TECramer and jpires, thanks! Jpires, that's the plan.
Jman, thanks for reading. I left +$400 in cash and $60 in bonus reward credits.

Actually, Ak-Chin has better paytables than other casinos in the greater Phoenix area. The 25c progressive is 8/5 DDB while other casinos it's 6/5. The 10c, 50c and 1$ DDB STP by the front door are 9/5 while the 25c is 7/5. For the $$ player, there are a few machines with 9/6 JOB and 9/7 DB. Friends who pay attention to pay tables play 25c DB. I don't remember the paytable as I don't usually play DB.

Sometimes one needs to play what's available.

When sober, the white pizza is very very good
