The annual meeting of the 4 Polish Princesses was upon us!! We sisters meet every May (this is the 24th year) – no husbands, no boyfriends, no kids! We all arrived at various times on Saturday, May 9th. The earliest arrival picked up the car at Alamo – no great rates this year. In fact we had a hassle with them not accepting a coupon (that had been accepted in the reservation 2 months prior). Many phone calls didn’t help until a face-to-face discussion with the manager at the Las Vegas Alamo. He not only accepted the $30 coupon, but took a few more dollars off. Well, all righty then. We had reserved an economy, but my sister used the $10 tip to the lot attendant to get us an upgrade to the Chevy Impala (with the nice big trunk).
We were staying the first 2 nights at M Resort. We requested and received complimentary adjoining rooms with a lovely mountain view. Love, Love, LOVE staying here! The rooms are lovely and comfortable. The bathroom amenities smell like a spa. The pillows are luxurious. We requested and received a complimentary refrigerator for the room for medication.
Two of us didn’t arrive until late on Saturday night, so we just gambled a little before hitting the sack. I was up $30 by the end of the night.
Sunday was Mother’s Day so we called our Mother to wish her a happy Mother’s Day and headed out for the day. My sister Nancy started nicely with $150 win on a Squid slot machine (at 50 cents a spin mind you!) We figured the buffet would be crazy busy and our comp buffets weren’t good on a holiday anyway, so we had lunch at Anthony’s Gourmet Burgers & Brews at the M Resort. AWESOME burgers! We shared 2 Imperial burgers w/stout braised short ribs and 2 Micro burgers with avocado, goat cheese and micro greens. We also shared an order of onion rings and an order of fries. Really wonderful food – we didn’t leave any behind!
We took off for the Orleans for a while where I hit the minor “blue” bonus on the new Wonder Woman slot ($16). I tried mightily to get a royal on their progressive triple pay nickel video poker but failed.
On to Southpoint. We played a bit of blackjack at Southpoint, but sat with this absolutely obnoxious man. It was a full table and I felt so sorry for the woman sitting next to him. He thought it was his responsibility to tell her how to play, but she already knew how to play and the advice he was giving her was just crazy. He varied his bet between $5-$100 and would stare intently at the dealer before deciding his bet. If he lost, he would snarl at the dealer and claim he had done everything “perfectly” and shouldn’t have lost. He was playing too crazily to have been counting cards. He also warned us that he sometimes would hit his hard 17’s. Just a jerk. We were all smiling when he lost most of his money and left.
We returned to the M Resort and had the opportunity to try all the new slows. Wonder Woman, Ellen, the new Lord of the Rings, new Willy Wonka, The Flintstones. All fun games with good bonuses.

This is a bonus on the new Flintstones slot
We celebrated my sister's birthday with a cake my niece made. The Best. Cake. EVER!
A couple of us watched the finale of the Good Wife. By the end of the show, 2 of us were really pooped and called it a night. I know, party animals!
Monday was time to check out of the M Resort and check in at Bally’s. This has the potential to be a logistical nightmare trying to get everything and us into the car, but my sister Nancy is a packing pro. She got everything in without breaking a sweat.

We dropped all the luggage and golf clubs (13 pieces total) at the valet and then went around to check in. It was before 11am, but we were able to check in immediately (no charge). There were plenty of people in line, but no one in the Platinum line, so that was a nice perk to have. The only adjoining room they had was one King with one Queen – nope, not sharing beds! They found us rooms on the same floor in the Jubilee Tower. They did warn us that there was club noise on one side (odd numbered rooms) and street noise on the other side (even numbered rooms) in the Jubilee Tower – and they weren’t wrong. My sisters had the street side, but the noise they had to deal with came from the new bazaar shops – they started BLASTING their music at 6am!! They offered to move us to the older tower, but we decided to stay where we were and just used ear plugs.
We went to MGM to pick up my sister’s friend, Kelley and then we all went back to the M Resort for a comp buffet lunch. This was our first time meeting Kelley and boy, did she fit right in with us! We had a terrific lunch, gambled for about an hour and then went over to the Gold Coast for their Senior Bonus Day and some bingo. 2 sisters hit bingos, but they had to share their jackpots with several other people – still a thrill to yell “Bingo”! We played some Pai Gow and I hit my first straight flush ever on Pai Gow. I made $150 off the $2 in bonus bets!
My sister Kathy came by to report a $300 win on the new Ellen slots. She came back later to report another $200 profit on video poker. The video poker was exciting not only for the win, but while she was playing she saw a man heading for the escalator, but he passed out on the floor before he could get to it. Not a single person made a move to help him! She ran over to help and then a cocktail waitress stopped. They got him up in a chair when he promptly passed out again and hit the floor quite hard. Paramedics arrived shortly after and the man insisted he was fine. My sister told him he wasn’t fine and really needed to go with the paramedic and get checked out (he wasn’t drunk). Thankfully, he did. She went back to her video poker machine (which fortunately still had her $200 in it!) We talked about that later and decided that could have been a helluve scam to distract someone from their machine - fortunately, that wasn't the case here.
We all had played enough to get a free entry to the video poker tournament. Kelley is still a young ‘un, but today’s video poker tournament was open to everyone over 21. For the tournament we played Jacks or Better as fast as we could for 15 minutes but none of us did very well. We called it a night at the Gold Coast and dropped Kelley back at the MGM. It was a real pleasure spending the day with you Kelley – I hope we get the chance to meet up again!
We headed back to Bally’s and went our separate ways to gamble. I played some video poker despite the newly lowered payouts (they weren’t that great to begin with and now they’re just terrible). I didn’t win and I certainly didn’t see anybody else winning. I played some slots – they had the new Wonder Woman slot, but I noticed the special blue, red and gold bonuses were not progressive (like they are at every other casino). I had hit the “blue” bonus earlier at Orleans for $16, but at Bally’s the “blue” bonus remained a constant $10. I’m afraid there just isn’t a whole lot worth gambling on at Bally’s anymore.
Tuesday dawned sunny and bright. The 2 golfers were off to Las Vegas National for an 8am tee time. They just loved the course. It wasn’t busy, so they zipped right through. They got a good deal playing the first round for $79. They got done so fast they decided to check about any deals for another round. The second round only cost them $30 – they only had time for 9 holes on the second round, but they really enjoyed it. Trivia time – the house used in the movie “Casino” can be seen quite clearly from the 1st and 18th tees. They even have some memorabilia from the movie on display in the club house.

While they were golfing, my other sister and I went across the street to Bellagio to pick up our tickets for that nights 7pm KA show (courtesy of MyVegas). We had seen KA before, but this would be the first time for the other 2 sisters.
After getting the tickets, we went to Cosmopolitan to try the buffet with the Las Vegas Advisor 2-4-1 coupon. We stopped at the players club to redeem the coupon without any trouble. The buffet was fantastic!!! With the 2-4-1 coupon it still cost $29, but it was just excellent. I found many of their dishes to be so inventive and unique – you won’t find basil goat cheese panna cotta at any other buffet!

After that wonderful lunch, we walked it off by searching for the Coast Casino (Orleans and Gold Coast) new shuttle bus stop at Caesars. And walk we did!!! I don’t really even know how to describe the location, but here goes. Walk through the casino towards the Forum shops. Just after you exit the casino and before you get to the Fizz bar there’s a door to the outside (I think it’s labeled “shuttles”). Exit that door and follow the sidewalk to a small parking lot – that’s where the shuttle bus stops. The parking lot has a cement statue with the big Planet Hollywood world insignia on top of it. Good Luck!
We took the shuttle to Orleans where we spent a few hours. The golfers picked us up there and we went to MGM for the KA show. This show has quite a few OMG moments and I’m happy to say the final battle scene is back in the show (it was taken out a while ago because of the death of one of the performers). When we saw the show last year this scene was missing, so it was completely new to us. Another breath-taking moment that had our jaws dropping. I believe this is one of the best rewards MyVegas has to offer. Just Excellent!

Wednesday, the golfers were off for an 8am tee time on the Angel Park Mountain Course.

My sister and I shared a bacon sandwich from Paris’ JJ’s Boulongarie (this is a great sandwich we have almost every visit!) Then we slotted around to Planet Hollywood, Bellagio and Cosmopolitan.
When the golfers got back we took a quick trip down to Southpoint to pick up tickets for tomorrow’s Dennis Bono radio show. We see this show every chance we get. It’s free, it only takes an hour and he always has such a great variety of guests.
We then set off for Sunset Station. We hadn’t been there in many years and we had picked up some comp buffets from MyVegas. I don’t know what happened, but it turns out the directions I got from Map Quest were sooooo wrong! Our supposedly 16 mile journey turned into an hour long trek. We eventually got there in time to get our comp lunch buffets. I was really disappointed with the buffet – the quality wasn’t very good.
It was senior day at Sunset and they were having a free slot tournament so we played. They used slot machines that required you to hit the play button very fast, but you also had to touch the screen when certain symbols appeared. I was so impressed with the technology they had for the tournament. Each machine had your name displayed. There were cameras at the top of the slot machines and a video screen off to the side so you could see the other players’ faces as they scrolled through the other participants. They had a leader board displaying the progress of the top participants. It was pretty cool. The only problem we had was that some of us had earned additional entries, but we didn’t realize it until our playing opportunity had passed. By the time the last sister played in her session we had it figured out and she was able to play in 5 separate sessions. She finished 1st in a few of her sessions and her point total was potentially good enough to be in the money. We would have to come back tomorrow to find out.

We had talked about going to see the Sinatra show at The Palazzo (Frank, The Man, The Music) and had seen earlier in the day that tickets were available at Tix4Tonite so we headed back to the strip to see if we could still get them. We went to the Tix4Tonite booth at Planet Hollywood. They had tickets available in all 3 price categories. We got tickets in the cheap seats for tonight’s show for $46.25 (w/$2 off coupon) and power walked down to the Palazzo.
They initially assigned us seats in the back, but when we were seated they moved us up a few rows (to the mid-priced seats). The showroom is small and they only sell the front 3 sections, so I don’t think there are any bad seats. The show was absolutely fabulous!!! We all thoroughly enjoyed it. Bob Anderson is the impersonator and I initially thought he must have had plastic surgery because of the striking resemblance. Turns out in real life, he doesn’t look all that much like Sinatra. His make-up takes 2 hours, and at the end of the show they show a picture of him as he really is. He is accompanied by a 32-piece orchestra that is phenomenal! Many in the orchestra are quite a bit older and that’s because more than half the orchestra actually played with Sinatra at one time or another. Mayor Carolyn Goodman and former Mayor Oscar Goodman were introduced from the audience.
We walked over to the Bellagio to catch a few fountain shows – they just seem more magical at night. Then we headed back to Bally’s for the night. I played some 3-card poker and High Card Flush but didn’t have any success.
Thursday we went to the Bellagio buffet courtesy of MyVegas. Another excellent buffet with high marks to the flank steak, salmon, various breads, salads and desserts.
We made it to Southpoint in plenty of time for the 2pm Dennis Bono show. We grabbed a booth in back and spent a thoroughly enjoyable hour. His guests today included an oldies rock & roll group The Bronx Wanderers, the Jazzmen - a local group that did an interesting version of the hit “It’s All About the Base”. There was a stand-up comic named Basile (very funny) and a singer reminiscent of Sarah Vaughn named Toscha Comeaux. Another excellent show!
After the show we played in the free senior day slot tournament – no big hits here. Then we went back to Sunset Station to see if my sister placed in the slot tournament. She was soooo close – just about 500 points shy of being in the money with her 113k score. Next time Diane!!
We played a bit and my sister Nancy had some phenomenal luck on the nickel video poker machine. She invested $7 and cashed out with $335 shortly after. She was VERY happy. Here are her big hits!

We went to the M Resort to attend a drawing because one of my sisters had several drawing tickets in the bin. We all sat down to play blackjack – unbelievably the first time we all sat down at a table together the whole trip! We earned another drawing ticket for each blackjack and I was getting quite a few. We didn’t win anything in the drawing, but I walked away from the table with a $175 profit – yeah!
While at the M Resort we did find out that your player’s points now expire every 6 months. That’s not a problem for 2 of us, but the other 2 sisters only come once a year. We checked their points and one had $18 and the other had $88! They made sure to get it downloaded and played off before they left for home.
We went back to Bally’s and finished up having some group play on the MegaBucks machine. It’s always exciting just thinking about a chance to win millions with one pull of the slot!

Friday was time to pack up and go – ALREADY?????. We had breakfast at the new Hexx restaurant at Paris. We had some delicious omelets and a breakfast pizza (we used our Total Rewards points). We had a few MyVegas coupons for a chocolate tasting, but it turns out that’s free anyway. The coupon does get you 20% off your purchase though.

Then we packed up and the 2 of us got dropped off at the airport. There was a long line at security, but it went fast.
Ah, another excellent trip. The weather was absolutely perfect the whole time. While the gambling was not especially kind, we didn’t do too bad. I came back with most of my bankroll, so I’m already in great shape for my next trip in November. One sister came back with ALL of her bankroll – winner, winner, chicken dinner!
The Highlights:
Shows – The Palazzo show “Frank, The Man, The Music”
Buffets – The M Resort, Bellagio, The Cosmopolitan
Gambling – Turning $7 into $335 on NICKEL video poker!
Best Free Entertainment – Dennis Bono radio show at Southpoint
Next year will be the 25th year in a row we sisters have been getting together in Vegas. We’re already trying to think of something special to commemorate the anniversary.
Till next time – thanks for reading!
