March 19 - 22, Harrah’s Atlantic City

Saturday

A quick side note before I begin: In the past we have always gone for only two days, so we both loved the extra day. I will probably never go for just two days again.

Got off later than planned b/c I over slept! Damnt! Finally get on the road around 12:15 from Charlottesville. Stop for gas and money and then non-stop to my sister’s. $3.43/gallon for gas! Ouch!

Leave my sister’s house in NOVA at 2:30. The drive is uneventful, no real traffic problems, and we arrive at Harrah’s around 6:30. The parking garage is full!!! In all the years I’ve been going to AC, I’ve always been able to find a place. We ended up parking in a parking lot right next to the garage. We then proceed to drag our luggage across the street and up the sidewalk to Harrah’s entrance. While unloading the luggage from the car, I dropped a grocery bag that had some drinks I had bought (in cans) and munchies I had bought for the room. As we are walking over to Harrah’s I stop to re-arrange my load and notice that one of the shirts that I am carrying on a hangar is wet . . . Discover that the Dr. Pepper cans have punctured and are leaking all down the back of my shirt. Fortunately, it was only a little. This trip is off to a great start, huh??

Check-in is fast as we got there much later than we normally do. Room isn’t in the tower we usually get; we end up in one of the older towers. Room is ok. We get settled in the room and then down to the casino!

My night started out great with a $480 win on $ triple/double stars. Piddle some more and then grab some pizza in the food court. It was downhill from there for me. After much up and down, lost the $480 and about $1000 more.

We ended the night with a late night breakfast at Reflections, and finally turned in around 3 am.

Sunday

We had breakfast in the room - yogurt, English muffin for me; oatmeal and yogurt for sis and a pot of coffee!

We then head off to showboat via CET shuttle where I manage to “spend” another $125. Ugh!

Then, its on to Caesars to pay homage and have dinner at Kwi. I had Yang Chow Rice with BBQ pork, shrimp and chicken and sis had Singapore Rice Vermicelli with noodles instead of rice. It also had BBQ pork, shrimp and chicken. Hers tasted much different, but both were very good. This was on s $40 food comp. I end up down another $100 between .25 VP and dollar quick hits.

Back to Harrah’s where we spent the rest of the evening and I managed to lose at pretty much anything I tried. I did get one 4oak on .50 VP, other than that it was lose, lose, and lose.

Monday

Got off and running around 1 pm after sleeping in. We ate breakfast at Reflections again (pancakes for me and strawberries for sis).

We piddled in Harrah’s for a while, where sis played a Wizard of Oz machine that I had dumped $300 in between Saturday and Sunday and had no luck. She, of course, puts $100 in and gets the Glenda bonus and won $1000 on that bonus alone! She ended up cashing out $1100 up!

We then set out to gather our slot dollar offers from various casinos. By now I am out of my gambling money, so it's my only choice anyway.

First stop Borgata to pick up bonus dollars. We each had $40 slot dollars this month. No luck for me there either. Sis won $300 on dollar, 5 line triple diamond. (I am starting to get over this trip by now). I grab a Fuzzy Navel to ease the pain . . .

Off to Caesars for more bonus slot dollars (I had $65 and she had $35 or $40) dinner at Cafe Roma (we each had $20 food comp or 4X rewards credits). Sis - $100 on village people and 3 to 4 hundred on Wizard of Oz; me - squat.

On to Bally's where I had $10 and sis $15. No luck there. By now I have decided to just drink my way thru the rest of the trip as we leave the next day, so grab a Bloody Mary at Bally’s WWW. It's pretty good, too! Best money I've spent so far!

Onward to Showboat to finish gathering our slot dollars. I had $15 she had $40. Sis - squat; me - $500 on Wizard of Oz Ruby Red Slippers!! Finally!!! I am ecstatic!! A Fuzzy Navel to celebrate!!

Back to Harrah’s to hit Ben and Jerry's before they close. We then ran up to the room for a while to relax as we've been gone the whole day. Went back down to the casino where I tried in vain to increase my winnings, but with no further luck ended up with about $40 of it left. At least it was their dime, but I should have saved some of it. (Note to self: Don’t be so greedy next time!)

Tuesday

We're on the road at noon. We made it to NOVA around 5 as we made several stops and ran into some of their infamous rush hour.

All in all, I had a great time, just wish I could have had some more decent hits. Almost forgot, we looked at Revel, and it looks like it will be fantastic when it is finished. I can’t wait to see it.

Have to hop in the bed now. Back to the grind tomorow afternoon. Hope you enjoyed it and thanks for reading.
Thank you for the trip report. We used to always stay at Harrahs and had a great time. Lately we've been staying at the Tropicana due to room and food offers from them. I never really won at Harrahs anyway, but I do like the casino.

Better luck on your wins next trip.

Thanks for posting your report! Sorry to read about all of your losses but it was nice that your sister had all of those wins!

It has helped me over the years to change my frame of mind to where if I win something, it becomes my new money that I'm playing with, not the casino's dime. That has helped to keep me in line since it is easy to get caught up with play and not realize why the $ that I could have used having has gone away.

I wish you better results on your next visit. And for me when I go away, 2 nights is also never enough and really is way too short for the distance that I have gone to get there -- I really need 3 or 4 nights if at all possible.

In my English classes, I teach my students about foreshadowing...you have a terrific example...hmmm...what would be symbolic of it being Dr. Pepper breaking and spilling all over your shirt?

Your attitute after losing 1K in such a short period of time is certainly more positive than I would have been. It think of all the casinos I visited in Atlantic City last summer the WWW looked like the most fun and my kind of place. Glad it brought you a little relief.

Sounds like you're a dollar player, so I imagine those kinds of swings have to be expected. Here's hoping you KILL them next time.

Thanks for sharing!

Hey, at least sis did well!!!
Thanks to all of you for reading and replying. And yes, it is nice that my sister got all those wins. At least one of us come home with some of our money. And, it was great to spend a few days together. We haven't been to AC together since last July.

JMan, I'm not quite understanding the foreshadowing. Now, I can certainly understand that things got off to a bad start with over-sleeping, and the drinks breaking, so guess you could say things continued in that general direction. But, where is the symbolism? Lost drinks/lost money? Or perhaps it was symbolic of a bloodbath! Or "losing your shirt"?

Perhaps you can enlighten me.

The foreshadowing is that before the trip began, you already had something bad happen (the spilt drink), which suggested that bad things were to come (you had some rough losing streaks). The symbolism of the Dr. Pepper versus any other drink was simply an attempt at humor. (When things go wrong, you call for a doctor). Yes, it was a stretch.

I see now. Yes, the trip did get off to a bad start, didn't it?

Good Luck all!
I know it's silly but if I lose, I change my panties and my sox, wash my hands and start over
...... er, um.. not in that order..

alway like to bring a few extra pair
Hey, sorry you lost in AC.

When you were on your way back you might have tried this with your sister:

"Hey, didn't we say we would split all
the winnings between us?" LOL

Your losing trip reminds me of my last visit
to LV. JM needed to change her panties.
I lost mine so I had to change them.

Anyway, sounds like you had fun despite
the loss and Dr. Pepper drip.
