In the words of CLARK GRISWOLD..."vegas, veGAS, VEEEGAS!"
but when ya got a HEAD COLD it's different...or at least, that's
what I feared would happen. 2 days before I left, I felt it coming
on...BIG TIME!. For 2 weeks I'd avoided coming down with what
everyone else at work had.
I drank my AIRBORN...I stayed home from work...I slept for HOURS
and...I LICKED IT!
Sunday morning, 3am I was ready to go. By 7am I was 'air born' in
a good way, and by 9:15 I was checking into the RIO, feeling fine!
Didn't request my 'end of the hall' room this time. Got the 18th floor,
pool view, Ipanima Tower...dumped my bag and hit the Breakfast Buffet.
Ya all know I'm not big on TR's, so this won't be too long.
(not much new goin' on in town for me these days anyway...)
The RIO is alive and well (...and still up FOR SALE, lol) There's several
new slot machine banks scattered throughout the casino. Payouts are still
very low! A normal 400 credit payout on one of my ol' reliable machines, is
still cut back to only 80 credits. All my favorite machine payouts have been
cut back since September of 2009...that's why I'm a video poker kinda guy
these days and Total Reward level GOLD member to boot, LOL!
Throwing the amount of money into a system like that to get something for
?FREE? just isn't smart. You can simply afford more by not playing the Total
Reward game these days.
Not too long ago, BEATLE MANIA 'was' the tribute BEATLE Show to see in
the VTheater. Things change...the group has mixed members around for
various reasons and now...down the hall in the SAXE THEATER lives BEATLESHOW.
www.saxetheater.com
It's not as good as the original, but better than YESTERDAY at the Trop.
SAXE THEATER is a great little venue just down the MIRACLE MILE hallway from
VTheater. You can see several Shows in there, including VEGAS! the SHOW which I'll
see again in May (it's changed a little...) Anyway, this was all Sunday.
BEATLESHOW was at 5:30, then over to the LVHilton for dinner at Benihana and
MARK CURRY (Mr.Cooper) and his strand up comedy act in Shimmer Cabaret at 10:00.
Monday I saw JERSEY BOYS again. It had been a while, but didn't take long to remember
what a good Show it is and with such great music!
After that, I stopped in at the PALMS LOUNGE at the PALMS for SANTA FE and the FAT CITY HORNS.
https://www.santafeandthefatcityhorns.com/
They're a funk, rock, jazzy horn band, made up with musicians from around town that
work in other Shows' house bands and do this after they get off work from their other gigs...they're
just a KILLER band! FAT CITY works in the orchestra for VEGAS! the SHOW.
The neat thing about listening to FAT CITY at the PALMS is...their lounge. It's right off the main front
doors, it's small, great sound and seating and...very few tourists (if any at all, lol) The crowd is made
up of...'in the know' locals, musicians, singers, and other entertainers from around town. Always a surprise,
and always HOT!
MONDAY NIGHTS, PALMS LOUNGE, 10pm and only $7.00
Tuesday night was the reason for this trip...to see CELINE's new show called...'CELINE', lol.
I bought the ticket over a year ago...AND HOPED I'D REMEMBER COME 2011.
I'll have some thoughts in SHOWS and ENTERTAINMENT.
The RIO pool is OPEN, there's a new exotic frozen daiquiri/frozen yogurt place called
'EVENING CALL' just off the main front doors. www.eveningcall.com
Up on the Masquerade Village mezzanine, next to Chippendales, is the 'new style' BURGER KING.
It just opened Wednesday morning and for now...plans on a 24/7 schedule AND...starting in May,
RIO JAVA (the better choice to Starbucks) also in Masquerade Village, will offer DRYERS ICE CREAM!
A GOOD LITTLE TRIP!
I also hit a few Double Bonus 'quads'...for the full $250. amount this time, LOL...(remember my
CHER TR?)...but being dealt 4 to a ROYAL, was denied the big bucks on the 5th card! (stupid machine...)
Only damper to the trip was a 2hr. flight delay out of McCarren back to the Bay Area.
Snow back East delayed my plane, but it finally made it IN/I made it OUT...and was back home
to my COLD, WET and WINDY California..............that's it, OVER 'N OUT.
