We left from Oregon at 7AM Wednesday morning and encountered snow all the way from Willamette pass to Reno, but spirits were still high as we were on our way to Vegas. We stayed at Cal-Neva that night which was a mistake. Don't ever stay there. We met my brother, who lives in Reno, at Peppermill buffet for dinner and used 2 coupons there. Then we played a short Black jack session at Cal Neva and went to sleep early so we could get up and drive to Vegas early. We left about 8AM Thursday and the drive was very easy, we got checked in about 4PM. We stayed at the Wyndham time share on S Las Vegas Blvd. near the South Point.
After checking in I couldn't wait to head out for a coupon run , so off we went. We took the free shuttle that drops us off at Caesar's. So we went North from there and planned to end up downtown. We were very hungry so went to Mirage and used another buffet coupon. So now we paid for one coupon book already by using just 2 buffet coupons. Then went to Treasure Island and got free play for new sign-up, found a 9/6 machine at a bar. The bartender gave us 1 free drink but said we need to deposit $20 and play $1 per hand to get another. Since we were considering this the start of the coupon run we ran through the free play and cashed out. We went to the Wynn which also has free play for new sign ups and the to Riviera to use the matchplay. We played it on blackjack a the same time and both lost but this would be the only match play I lost the whole trip. Then we took the double decker bus downtown. it was very crowded and took awhile to get down there. At $6 a person we probably should've just taken a cab.
We went to every downtown casino, going to the slot club to get cards and vouchers for our coupons. At Binions they gave us new member free play and coupon free play a once. At 4 Queens they had an additional coupon sheet with a free ace and a match play in it. At each stop we got a free drink as well and had no problem at all redeeming any coupon. I got lots of 3 of a kind and full house with free plays, but nothing bigger, and cashed out over full value of coupon at most stops. I totaled $148 from this coupon run and never made to any of the off strip properties. By this time it was getting late and the last shuttle back to Wyndham left Caesar's at 12:30.
Friday morning we had Neon Garage passes for Qualifying day, It rained very hard and the cars never made on the track, but the access would have been great. I would definitely recommend Neon Garage to anyone going next year. So we drove back to our room showered up and played some poker at South Point. I would rate the players there as quit good.
Saturday I made some basketball bets and went up to the strip and played poker at Excalibur where I would rate the players as maniacs. When dinner time came we used coupons at Planet Hollywood.
Race day we left about 8AM and it took until 10:45 to get to the track, but green flag wasn't scheduled until after 12. The weather was sunny and warm and I even got a sunburn. However right as the race was ending there was a fatal accident on the freeway near the track and they closed it down for investigations. We were rerouted through Nellis on the way back and it took over 5 hours after race to get back. The night was nearly shot by then. We just ate and walked around taking pictures as we were leaving the next morning.
On the way back home we stayed at Peppermill for our pit stop in Reno. It was like a palace compared to Cal Neva. Now I am just looking forward to being able to schedule another Vegas trip in the near future.
