I tried posting this yesterday and after having it all complete and fairly lengthy my computer or connection messed up... so i'm trying again only shorter this time.
This was my 2nd trip to Vegas for March Madness - if you like sports betting you cannot beat this weekend. It was a blast as it was the first time. There were a total of 7 of us in the group. My Brother, College buddy (Tud), best friend from HS, and 3 guys that he is good friends with.
Wed. March 14th - Me and my Bro fly out of San Antonio on time and arrive a few minutes early at 5:15 vegas time. Head to Ballys to check into our comped rooms. Walk down to Harrah's and meet up with my HS buddy and one of his guys.
Shortly after we cab (with one of the angry cabbies that drives reckless for no reason) downtown where my brother and I both had offers for rooms, food credit, slot play, and match play at The Fitz (more on the Fitz later). We check-in, get the food credit coupon and the matchplay coupons and the slot play activated on the card. We head upstairs to eat at Courtyard cafe. Food was good - not great but got us ready for the night. We head downstairs to find a free slot play machine - I sit at a VP machine on the new "LONG BAR".... and it is LOOONG! Very nice until I order.... me -"red bull and vodka please".... bartender "sorry we dont comp those anymore"..... me "ok, how about a blue moon".... bt - "oh, we are out of that"... Me "ok, a killians will work" .. I finish my free play after a couple of beers - no hands worth noting. So me and my bro sit down at a $10 BJ table. Things start off pretty good. A few hands in I pull out my first match play for $10 (I had $35 and they made me to 3-$10's and 1-$5). I win that one! A couple hands later I use the 2nd one - win! Then the 3rd - win! Within 30 minutes or so I am up about $75 so I start upping my bets. Before long I am starting to stuff green chips in my pocket... this continues for a good little run. I finally cash out for a $400 profit!
** The Fitz seems to be changing the entire format and employees said to look for more changes as the time goes by over the next few months. One funny moment - I am going to cash out and there is one grumpy looking lady working the cage.. me - "aww man, making you work all by yourself today.... how's it going?" lady - "it would be better if they would turn off this stupid music!!".... haha.... me "ok, well you have a nice night!" - The music was rather loud - similar to Golden Gate w/out the Dancers. It was very different from the Fitz i've come to love... but depending on what you like I think its for the better.
Back to Harrah's - by this time Tud had met us downtown and him, myself and brother play a little. I lose a little at the Ultimate Texas Hold'em. This the one very similar to 3 card poker where you get paid on a pay scale based on your hand strength - not your starting hand. I decide to head back to Bally's to call it a night - so I thought - I have a bad habit of not going to sleep when I'm up. As walk into Bally's theres the Ultimate Texas Hold'em table with only one player. I sit down and after 3 hours @ 5:30am several bud lights later I cash out with $1050! I turned the $50 into $150 at the roullette table before officially calling it a night.
Thurs March 15 - "El Jeffe" - we watched games all day in the Bally's Sportsbook. That night about 4 of us sit at the Ultimate Hold'em table again. My friend Tud who is 6'8" and very fit was having a rough go of it and was down quite a bit.... UNTIL - "El Jeffe" showed up. "El Jeffe" was a 5'4" little Mexican man that spoke broken english and had a deep accent (I'm pretty sure he was one of the guys that resupplies the card people on the street). He sat down at an open seat but didn't pull any money out to play. After a couple of hands he started "advising" Tud what to do on his hands, which didn't appeal to much to Tud at first. But those hands hit - a straight, then trips, then a flush.... The little Mexican man soon become known as "El Jeffe" to the table. After Tud hit a full house and betting the max pre-flop, on the advice of "El Jeffe", Tud gets up - tells "El Jeffe" to get up and they "chest bump" and make some noise after the win. This goes on for about an hour. Tud again is 6'8" and "El Jeffe" again is 5'4" probably chest bumped 5 times! Along with my friend Tud giving "El Jeffe" a tip each time he hit a big hand! It was one of the funniest nights I've had in Vegas. I was down for the night but Tud had been down until "El Jeffe" showed up and he ended up making a comeback and then some.
Friday - "The Spirit of El Jeffe" - Watched games all day and tried gambling some that night. I was worn out after the "El Jeffe" events from the previous night. We tried calling upon "The Spirit of El Jeffe" but it just wouldn'nt work and the hands wouldn't come our way.
Saturday - My Brother had left friday night, Tud left saturday morning. My HS buddy and his friends and I watched games all day. On Saturday night I his a 4 team parlay that I had put $45 on - good for a payout of $495! I eneded up playing all night and grabbed my things, cashed out my two purple chips from the first night and we grabbed a cab to the airport to catch our 6am flight.
All in all I came home about $400 in the black. It was a great trip - Looking forward to the next one!
Thanks for reading!
