March Madness: MSS and the D

We left for four nights from Detroit March 16 (friday) at 5:30. We had 6 of us so we had a limo take us to MSS rather than two cabs. Very nice. Took the strip so my wife (her first time) could see Vegas at night.
Some highlights and observations:

MSS: Still my favorite casino downtown. Have been staying at the Fitz the last couple visits but play every day the video poker at MSS so this time we just stayed there. Both give me free or discounted rooms. MSS rooms fine. Tube style tv could use an update. Room clean and good size. Overall comfy and does the trick. We had 4 of us that played a large amount of video poker every day. One of us hit the royal within the first 30 minutes of play. No such luck the next 4 days. Lots of 4 of a kinds. Scratch off's all $2 winners (one $3 winner). Blackjack area nice and the pit bosses friendly. Enjoyed my time here.

Fitz (now the D): Really good free t shirt advertising. Packed. I mean, packed. Now, it was St Patricks Day weekend, but this place is now a party. They have a LONG bar along a wall. Nice TV's. Party atmosphere. Saturday night dancing girls all over (like at golden gate). Music LOUD. One friend said, "I like the view, but the noise is getting old". Personally, it was just too loud. Drink service quick and good at tables. Around 1 am Sunday morning (late Saturday night) a big brawl broke out by the long bar. Was chaos. Punches and chair throwing. Security was slow getting there, and they weren't very intimidating. Couldn't tell if girls were trying to grab their guys or beat up on other guys but they were in the middle of it. Finally some big people in suits showed up and got things under control. Don't know how it ended. First fight I've seen in 25 visits to Vegas. As tanked as people get I can't say I'm surprised to finally see one. I was also surprised how slow security was, although it was a crowd to move through I guess. Anyway, I don't know if I like the new "D", but business sure looked good. We went back Monday night and played some more. Still crowded, no dancing girls. Music still there. Rooms still the same as of this writing. Tube tv's here too. Must say I had one female pit boss that was great. Talking to all of the tables and handing out shirts. She was fun. On that Monday our pit boss was back to being the old stuffy kind. The kind of guy that can't be bothered to take your players card. Unfortunately I've seen more the the stuffy kind at Fitz over the years.

Le Reve: Really, really good show. I think I like this better than Mystere and Ka. I also sat in the 4th row and like sitting closer (after much box office advice to sit towards the back). Yes, you look up a lot but a lot of the action is right in front of you. There are a LOT of people in this show. Many look alike (bald heads, head dress type caps, etc). Very glad we went.

Weather: 50 and cold or rainy. Michigan 75-80. We got robbed.

So we at a lot, drank a lot, watched a lot of basketball, and laughed a ton. Had a fantastic trip and came back with more money than i went with. Blackjack was very good to me, and video poker tolerated me (was not nice to me, but did not smack me around either). MSS still my favorite place (love the video poker bar, buffet, and 777 pub), but wanted to keep some play at the "D" in case the rooms are full at MSS in the future.

Also walked to Pawn Stars (not worth it), went to Bellagio conservatory (well worth it), and the ladies rented a car and went to Valley of Fire (fun but cold).

Oh, took the wife and did the Big Shot on top of the Stratoshere. She should start talking to me again any day now.
Thanks for the report deagle, glad you had a great time! We'll be at the D April 14th. Hows the second floor? Heard they are turning it Vintage with a Sigma Derby. Was the pool open?
Thanks, Deagle, for your report. I don't think I have ever seen a fight in LV, but with all of that drinking and whatnot, it doesn't surprise me completely that there would be such action!

I'm happy that my favorite area, Downtown LV treated you kindly gaming-wise!

And as for the Big Shot, I'm not surprised that your wife hasn't talked to you much for a while after that! I definitely have no interest in doing that kind of ride at any height -- but most especially at the height that it is on the Stratosphere Tower!

As for the Pawn Stars location, I can't say that it surprises me that it's not worth it! I've seen that show enough times to know that it basically has become a Tourist Trap with not great prices and whatnot!

Thanks for you TR. I will be at the Fitz/ D soon. I sure hope it gets less noisy. The last time I was there it was also very rowdy lots of young kids swearing and screaming. Love the long bar image.

Detroit is setting records this year for heat. It was even hotter than Naples ,FL one day.

The pool there is always open.
Yes, the pool was open. No one there. Just too cold out that weekend.

I don't remember much being different on the 2nd floor of the Fitz. Vue bar area the same, escalator the same, bathrooms at the top the same, and Don B's steakhouse the same. Those are the only area's I visited though.
We were staying at Wynn, day after St. Pattys day, and even THERE, it was Loud & obnoxious.
First time ever had to change rooms due to noise at Wynn.

"Oh, took the wife and did the Big Shot on top of the Stratoshere. She should start talking to me again any day now"

You would be getting served with divorce papers right now, if I were your wife!
Thanks for posting deagle.
