May 2-9th Downtown and Local Spots Part 1

We're from Calgary and we tend to Drive to Kalispell Montana to catch our flights, they costs about 1/2 price so 241. We leave Calgary about 8am drop the beast off at the Kennel...$33 bucks a night plus tax. We spent $86 for 8 nights hotels total!!!...it's seems crazy to shell out that much for our beloved Rex but he needs a doggie Vaca too!

Head down through Black Diamond, Longview...Crowsnest pass, through Frank's Slide ( blows my mind the top of the mountain just fell off early 1900's) and stop for coffee and a cookie @ the greatest little local coffee place the Cinnamon Bear Bakery & Café. Through Fernie , BC...down through Eureka Montana. Cute Little town, some shops and they've got a decent Breakfast café there too. Pass through Whitefish, major road construction there into Kalispell. 12:30 Moose's for lunch, this place is awesome, sawdust and peanuts on the floor tons of beer on tap, I get my usual Veggie Sandwich, BF gets the combo pizza. Play the Vol-keno machine loose $10 bucks. Head to the mall, get a pair of jean shorts, jeans , cheap sandals and earrings for $32! That's NUTS! Head over to the Red Lion to park the Car and catch the shuttle to the Airport. Shuttle was free, now Charging $10 for 2 if you don't stay there that night.

Check-in, clear security...have a drink, Vodka Soda~ not bad $6 each Power was off in Vegas so the traffic controller issue has set us back 1 1/2hr delay. Drink #2 We finally board, only to sit on the tarmac another 1 1/4 hrs, no drinks are served when sitting on the ground. Finally we take off...for our 1:55 flight. We order drinks and share a bag of almonds for dinner...yeppie! there goes our late night dinner in Vegas. Land, we only have carry-ons, rush to Dollar to pick up our rental.

Head Downtown, quick pit stop in El Cortez for the 1k with-drawl and 5% back in free play. Yep it worked although when the EC parkade is busy only Sapphire members and above can park for free. We had to flash our card. Over to the D to check in. We were in the keno Tournament there and had comp'd rooms. We upgraded. $50 bucks more for the 3 days. Corner King, sofa, fridge...nothing great wouldn't do it again. Maybe would do the big suite with 3 TV's and the living room/bar.

Head to the Keno Lounge only to play 2 games as they close at 1am. Tried the new Coney Island Hot Dogs, use the 241...and woofed down a dog hot. I've not had a hotdogs in years... It's nothing great and I was Starving! Hit the sheets about 1:30, what a LONG bloody DAY!

Friday May 3rd- Paid to get into the tourney $500, bought in with our friends from Texas twice, it Started at 5pm Friday evening. $50 to the derby tourney as only 19 were entered so why not? and $2500 free play first prize, not a bad deal. It was done on the old vintage Horse racing machine on the second floor of the D. Did the 1st Derby round~ Hated it so boring. As the buy-in numbers were low, we all going into the semi-finals on Saturday Drank coffee and Bailey's till 11ish visited with our American friends, headed over to the fremont breakfast buffet with the LVA 241, got there as they were changing breakfast into lunch. We've only ever done the seafood brunch and it was so-so. I was hoping to get breakfast thinking it would be a no brainer but only old items left. Lunch was awful! Had a few bites of everything and was totally put off! NEVER AGAIN....

Off to El Cortez to people watch and to use my $50 free play, I got the night before for the withdrawl of 1k on their bank machine, tried to use the $10 free play too but the players club wouldn't let me do both the same day. Other members in the forums have reported using both at once. Activated my 5x points as well. Sat up at the bar was drinking Jameson and Ginger. Bar was dead, bartender that was familiar to me, started giving me flack about betting 2 quarters on Caveman keno. REALLY? What about the people betting 1 penny over there! We're your only tipping customers and the BF is playing 5 quarters on Poker and your gonna call me out...telling me to bet at least 3 quarters because your being watched? OK... I see his point but really!..El Cortez is hardly the Las Vegas strip. It's been paid for mainly, mainly times and Jackie is pulling a Howard Hughes @ the South Point. Reports are he does have video hot wired in, maybe the Bartender is getting a little paranoid!

Went to Town Square for my Crack water with electrolytes from Whole Foods, had pedicures & Manicures hit Sac's ~ Found nothing to buy ,Then Ellis Island to use the $10 free play...NO hard lemonade..boo hoo, as I love that stuff, not summer yet I guess.

Back Downtown...Started the Tourney, hit 6/6 on a .15 bet for $375 first hour, not too bad We all went to try out the Pasta Pirate at the California, it was packed. We booked in for Saturday Night and headed over to the Main Street Station for the Seafood Buffet instead. used 241's at it wasn't bad, I was worried as lunch was sooo bad. I had peel n eat shrimp, sushi, crab legs, salad and garlic bread. Got a piece of pecan pie, asked the BF if he'd like to share it with me, looked down 80% of it was gone, it was pretty good.

On the way back we stopped @ Binions to use the $10 free play. I left with $10 and BF $70.. Back to the tourney, I won so more & was sitting in 3rd with a $650 total. Our other buy-in were tanking.

Saturday May 4th.. Up early, 7am headed downstairs, thank god we got a keno booth. Got another 6/6 3rd game after I sat down I've moved into 1st place, still really early as it ends at 2am sat. Everyone finally got up so we took shifts over in the café eating. I got a Rueben and the BF got some Sandwich and we shared. The café reno's are quite nice,I enjoyed looking out into the casino while dining. Everything is very closed off now. Meal was comp'd as I had enough points. Played Keno all day and couldn't get much going, buy dinner I got bumped into 3rd with about $1200. Our other buy-ins still not doing much either.

We headed to the pasta Pirate about 6ish, looks kinda like a Red Lobster. Meals come with soup or Salad and a glass of house wine. I had a seafood Pasta and seafood soup, BF had the fish and our friends had Steak and shrimp which looked quite good. Our meal was delayed so the waitress brought extra wine. With the 241's LVA dinner for 4 & appie & glasses of wine $70 with a good tip. I'd go back, it wasn't fancy but overall pretty decent food for the price. Stopped at the fremont on the way back for the $1 margarita's won $20, back to playing keno.

Sat in 3rd place all night, @ 1am someone hit $2200 and bumped me 2 4th. Oh well $700 for 4th wasn't bad,.Headed to bed knowing my keno tournament outcome. Too be continued...
Thanks for your report so far especially for my favorite place -- Downtown LV!

Sorry to read about all of your plane coming in issues.

It's interesting to know that you ended up participating in the Sigma Derby Tournament since the LVA website and the QOD had mentioned it.

Looking forward to your continuing report(s).
