Trip Report May 31-June5 2015
Background- This Trip Report is being prepared by Bobby (BW) & Martie (MJ), in our 20 + years we have been to Vegas 40ish to 50ish times, this is our first trip of 2015. BW is 75 and retired 9+ years, MJ is 50ish and is a WC Adjuster-Subrogation Rep. We live in Austin, (South) Texas.
May 31 we took a taxi to Bergstrom with our favorite driver Marilyn. Routine check in and security, met 3 nice people, man had lived in Vegas area for 35 years, wife and son both worked at Wynns. Had chicken fried steak sandwichs from Hills at the airport. We were in seats 8C & 8D, flight left 10 minutes late and arrived 20 minutes early, (win), the entire flight was choppy. BW sat next to Allegiant employees, gave kudos on fares, ask why 1 hour + wait on phone calls, they want you to use on line for business they do not want to hire more phone operators as it would increase expense, therefore fares.(??). It was a very long walk to Baggage Area, we grabbed our bags in 10 minutes and had a quick ride to Flamingo. The cabby did not long haul us but took several short cuts, we haven't seen this before (win) and it earned him a nice tip. We stored our luggage and had a quick check in then to Bugsys for beer and Video Poker. We saw our pal bartender Steve Kennedy and invited him to dine with us on Wednesday at Margaretville. We had room 6041 with a view of courtyard The room was ok. We went back down for beers and gambling at Flamingo & Cromwells, MJ 2 4OAK BW 1, no 4 to Royal, Cromwell has removed most of their penny slots that we won on our trips last year. We were back in the room around 10 PM, BW & MJ gambling was down for the day.
June 1 we were up around 8:00 a.m. to have our coffee and breakfast bars in room we then had Bloody Marys at Bugsys then had a a late lunch at Toby Keiths (Harrahs) we shared the chicken fried steak and as usual it is great. We spent the day gambling at Flamingo, Linq, Harrahs, and the Stage Door. BW hit 2 40AK, MJ 3 but the big hit of the day and the trip MJ hits a .50 Royal Flush at the Stage Door, (Super Win Win) tips bartender $100 (also the payor) BW buys 2 rounds for the bar. We hit the Stage Door every trip now, beer is cheap and a great place to people watch, met 2 nice young men who work at Paris, enjoyed visiting with them. We were back in our room at 9pm. MJ up $ for trip BW down.
June 2 We our coffee and breakfast bars in room, Bloody Marys at Bugsys, taxi to Orleans, again driver gave us a quick ride and earned a nice tip. We ate at Big Als Oyster Bar, BW Louisiana gumbo MJ shrimp scami. BW won $200 on Firey 7s, MJ 4 Kings for $200 and both won $200 on Shaking Trees.( win win win) we took a taxi to Cosmo, the driver hit every traffic jam possible, he was goofy or high. Cosmo was as beautiful as the first time we saw it. Always enjoy people watching here, we can get 2 nights comped may use that next trip. MJ won $100 at bar, BW & MJ won $400 on Wizard of Oz machine (win) we took a taxi to Flamingo, the driver was a retired Marine and native of Vegas, we enjoyed our visit with him another quick trip and nice tip. We were back in the room 9pm. MJ up , BW down $ for trip.
June 3 We have coffee and breakfast bars in room, Bloody Marys at Bugsys gambled at Flamingo MJ 4 OAK, BW 0. Treated our favorite bartender Steve to a meal at Margaretville, BW shrimp, Steve burger , MJ wings, enjoyed the meal, people watching, and Steve's stories about the Flamingo, particularly almost being eaten his first day by a tiger. He worked in the same building for 35 years, when BW asked if the Suits of the Flamingo gave him anything special for his 35th, yep a congrats email. Loveman's Suits strike again. Steve is a super nice guy and we look forward to seeing him each trip. We had a few beers at Bugsys and met a nice couple from Ft Worth who were staying at The Mirage, Texas people are friendly. Up at 9pm. MJ still up for trip BW down.
June 4 It is a sad day, it always is, as it is our last full day in Vegas. The usual coffee and breakfast bars in our room, Bloody Marys at Bugsys. Walked to The Linq, still impressed what they have done to renew and revive this area. We gambled awhile at the Linq and then stumbled upon O'Sheas first time since the remodel, it's nice, completely different that the old O'Sheas. We gambled there and was entertained by neat bartenders J.D. and Hillary. Ate for the first time at the Yard House, a really neat place, will eat there again, BW had 1/2 club sand and salad, MJ whole artichoke and homemade potato chips. We then went to the Stage Door at 4pm it was packed and loud, we drank a beer and gambled $20. and left. Way too loud. (yep I'm getting old) We Gambled at The Cromwell and Flamingo up early as we have a 7:30 am flight.
June 5 We were up at 3 am had coffee and bars, took a taxi to airport and checked in check in it went smoothly. Late leaving 20 minutes because passenger count was off, arrived 10 minutes late. Marilyn picks us up at airport. Another fun trip.
Miscellanous Thoughts
* Next trip, would like to return for our anniversary Sept 29, need to save $ to make trip. We will continue to stay at Flamingo since they will comp 5 nights ( we must pay resort fees) but will continue to gamble less at Cesars properties. Maybe double book the Cosmo for 2 nights, we can get free rooms Sun to Thurs. (resort fees)
* Allegiant Airlines saved us close to $200 compared to Southwest, don't like their 7:30 am return flight to Austin, might use Allegiant to Vegas and Frontier to Austin.
* We saw Security Personnel every where we went, even on the floor of our hotel is this something that has happened recently. (Good)
* We will look for new places to gamble, on this trip came back with half of our gambling budget, but will strive to come back home with a profit.
*Food was a super plus this trip, Toby Keiths, Big Als, Yard House, hit the spot.
* Room 6041 was ok but no TV in bedroom (yep I'm old) check this out before next trip.
*Taxis were great, no long hauls, probably some short cuts, only 1 driver was not top notch.
*Still love the Linq open area, nice place to relax.
* Steve Kennedy a great bartender, we always enjoy our visit with him.
* Flamingo, Cesars SUITS continue to rate 00 with me.
* Good Trip, had fun relaxed, Give it a B.
