May/June2024 Trip

I used to love tubs but now with my physical limitations if I got into this tub they would have to bring in staff to get me out.
I would love it if every hotel would put grab bars in their showers.  I would also love it if all the toilets in the world weren't so darn low!  Wish I could stand to pee!  Ha.

I adore Vegas but I do find every trip a little harder but having my son and his GF with me encourages me to keep trying and to help them have a great trip.

Thanks for reading!

You are right on about the low toilets.  Some worse than others.  There is one at Harrah's Laughlin, you'd think I'd remember it trip to trip.  Not all, but there's this one that almost makes me laugh (or cry) 'cause I forget and next thing is PLOP way down.  Actually makes me laugh, then cuss a tiny bit.

Hey Patricia, our last family reunion I shared a room with my brother!  No big deal, we did fine.  I forget why his wife wasn't along but it worked out for me, saved some money.  Another trip I shared a room with the two of them.  Three for one (small) bathroom a little trickier, but not so much.  It didn't kill me either time.

Oh, and sorry about the fall.  I read one thing if you have to do the shower tub combo:  First step into the tub, THEN turn on the water, get the temp right, then do the shower pull.  Not sure how that helps, other than not trying to lean over and work the water, then stepping in, which probably is a hand/eye fooling thing with the water pounding on you while getting in.

I've off and on had balance issues as my body and my diabetes struggled for supremacy. Sometimes, even a Shower of Death (in a tub, nothing to grab on to) is perfectly negotiable; other times, I've looked at it and said, "It's Washcloth Day!" and I revert to the when-I-go-camping style of self-cleansing. At least someone else will be cleaning up the mess!

The ABSOLUTE MINIMUM every (EVERY) hotel should do is line the floor of the tub with no-slip strips; failing that, provide a suction cup-bottomed bathtub mat. The casinos should consider that when we're lying on the floor, unconscious and bleeding, we won't be downstairs gambling. So our survival is in everyone's interest. And yes, every tub/shower should have at least one grab bar.

When I know that my balance issues are acting up, it's an ADA room or hasta la bye bye casino. I've never had a problem reserving one, though. A bonus is that those rooms are always close to the elevators.

I agree completely.  I move to Mirage on Friday and I have an accessible room booked there.

Wow, sorry to hear about the first failed ride to the Neon Musuem.  Glad that you made it to your tour though.

Thanks.  It was traumatic for sure!

You mention noise/music levels at several points, and how pleasant music enhances the experience but loud music all but destroys it. Unfortunately, many of the junior execs making these environmental decisions grew up in the earbuds era, when they and their cohorts spent every waking moment with loud music being pumped directly into their ears. So naturally, they think that "deafening" is the optimal default setting. That mindset has made, for example, both the D and Circa downtown into horrible, unapproachable noise-pits.

I remember a much earlier example of this, at the old Palms, where 9ine Steakhouse served the most awesome food ever, but God help you if you arrived there after 7:00. At that time, the music was cranked up to 450,000 decibels and it became impossible to eat, with the blood from your ears running onto your plate.

I really like the Mo Money game.  Hit one in the high limit room at Westgate, using free play for over $1600 back in late Feb.  Bummer about that restaurant's loud music.  We had a similar experience at the Toby Keith restaurant that was (not sure if it's still there) at Harrah's. I had to take my hearing aids out and it  was still loud, can't even imagine how bad it was for my wife and son.
