I’m going to channel CLV and do a short (turned out longer than I expected) TR on my recent Reno trip over MLK weekend. Only did this because the highway was snowless and Vegas trip isn’t until Feb.
JA Nugget: checked out the progressives I’ve heard so much about but they’re not slant tops and my shoulders just can’t take it. Instead, found a couple of BPAFs (more on that later) tucked in a cubby hole and dribbled away $50. Then discovered a wheel poker game and gave it a whirl (pun intended) – hit a quad and won 600 quarters on the wheel. Took my winnings and departed.
Eldorado: shouldn’t it be “El Dorado”? Yet the hotel combines it all in one word. Anyway, played some BPAF here as well and quit while ahead $100. No face quads, though.
Circus Circus: if this were a couple of years ago, I wouldn’t be playing here because they downgraded their 25¢ job and bp. However they have 50¢ bp which is my normal level nowadays. Used comps to eat their bbq platter (they have a nice bbq place there) which is more food than I can handle. Afterwards, played a couple of hours and walked out ahead.
Grand Sierra: read on vpfree that there’s no good vp here and went to see if that info was outdated. It wasn’t. I walked.
Peppermill: stopped here on my first day before I had checked into my hotel. Placed a bet on my Niners and win-win. Played on some machines that had a 25¢ rf paying $1199. Paytables (at least for job) weren’t downgraded so I wonder why more people wouldn’t be playing these? No, didn’t hit a rf but won a little bit before having to split. On my last day of the trip, I stopped in to collect on my bet and played a bit on a 25¢ progressive in the non-smoking room. Nada there, then nada on a couple of other machines I played. Down a hundred, ready to leave, spotted an STP machine. It’s a fun ride so played some on job and did quite well, hitting some quads and even a sf. But why oh why were the big hits never on a multiplier? Still, recouped my losses and then some so I was pleased. Oh, and in all of the moving from machine to machine, I left my phone somewhere. I use it more to take pics of good wins than to talk, really. Good thing it happened on my last day.
Atlantis: I have a host here and he’s been good to me – I try not to take advantage. So I get free rooms, and they get a lot of play from me. Which is good because they have lots of good vp here. Their high limit room has $1 vp with a nice progressive which I tried for but never got. It was at $4800+ when I tried and failed. Odd that sometimes I was the only one playing and the prog meter would be moving, pretty quickly too, like the Megabucks meters you see. Except, sometimes it moved when I’d sit back and not play. Believe me, I wasn’t complaining. Maybe it was hooked up to other machines outside that room too. All in all I had my ups and downs during my stay here and more ups than downs so it turned out well.
Here’s my BPAF story: I like this game because getting 200 for a face card quad just seems right. For a long time, at least a couple of years, vpfree has listed BPAF at the Atlantis with location “unknown”. Except I knew where they were, but never bothered to notify vpfree about it. Just before my trip, I finally did, and the moderator updated it. All is right in the world. I went to play on the machine and noticed that they had BPAF only at the 25¢ and $1 level, and I had wanted to play 50¢. Ah well, I played at $1 and I have to think there was some sort of karma working:
