Sounds like fun. I wish I were, ... oh wait, I was there.
The Palms downgrade was strange, in that the full pay machines near the front door were completely gone. Not downgraded, just gone. They've moved those machines before, so there's at least some chance they'll return. They also still have 9/6 JoB and still run some decent promotions, but since room comps are darn near impossible to get for any reasonably amount of play I won't go out of my way to visit. Just want to maintain a comp balance to pay for my Gardunos fix.
Glad you liked Ellis Island. The place isn't much to look at, but I've always enjoyed my meals there. Harv and I went back a few days later and ate at the restaurant and got to use more drink tickets. I'd like to visit sometime when it's not so hot and I'm staying within walking distance to get the most out of those.
You didn't mention the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum. That was an unexpected surprise for me. Much more entertaining than I expected and is somewhere I plan to return.
You alluded being pulled in different directions by people with different objectives for their vacations, which is something I can relate to. It's great to have so many people I want to visit with in town at the same time, but it also makes the trip very hectic trying to spend time with everyone. Over the years, I've gotten better at accepting that I won't get to see much of some people, while others will be stuck with me for longer than they deserve. This year I felt I came as close as ever to balancing "my vacation" with catching up with friends. It's still tough, but I'm glad I got to have a couple meals with you before everyone got to town and your taxi job started in full force.
Oh, you also failed to mention your quad at Main Street Station early in the trip. I know it doesn't fit with the "I never hit a quad" persona you project, but I want to acknowledge for the record that you hit the first bonus quad of the trip, and then were nice enough to teach me how you did it. I'm a slow learner, but I eventually hit aces of my own and it was a direct result of your tutelage.
