Good day to all who read this. I just returned from a 4 day trip to Vegas to enjoy the mountains and surrounding areas of Vegas as well as the buffets and a little gaming.
I flew out on Southwest early Sunday morning from Philadelphia with a stop in Chicago. Only one direct flight per day to Vegas from Phila. No problems on flight right on time. I picked up a Chevy malibu which I pricelined for 20 dollars per day with additional taxes. Way to big a car and bad gas mileage. I immediately drove out to red rock canyon. I hiked up turtle peak which is one of the tougher hikes in RRC. Lots of Rock scrambling and scree. Made it to the top and back down with a few slips on the loose rocks coming down. I returned to Vegas and checked into the Southpoint. Hung by the pool for a few hours and read my book. Very windy day limited my enjoyment of the sun. I picked up my friend at the airport and we went to dinner at the RIO buffet. I as always enjoyed the desserts. The main disches are always a little weak. We went back to South and he checked in and we went to bed.
Day 2: We drove up to Zion National Park and hiked to Observation Point which is a total of 8 miles with 2100 feet of elevation change. Great hike with fantastic views and a section through a cool slot canyon. Pre hike we had Breakfast at the Buffet at Virgin River Casino in Mesquite. Great made to order pancakes there. We drove back to Vegas and cleaned up. We went to Planet Hollywood for the Buffet (of course using our 10 dollars off coupon from the POV} I love this buffet. This is my favorite place. The shrimp tempura and the Lamb kabobs are to die for. I would pay full price for this one. We walked through Cosmopolitan and Bellagio. Great flower display at the Bellagio . Cosmo was busy as the club was about to open so there were tons of young people waiting to get in. The entire city center is not my cup ot tea. A little to much hustle and bustle ( actually the entire strip is this way to me). Back to Southpoint.
Day 3: Our plan was to go check out the new bridge over the Colorado near the Dam. We stopped at Sunset Station for Breakfast and I picked up a new players club. When the guy gave me the card there was a red Senior sticker on it. I said what the hell is this. He said since I turned 50 I am now a senior in there eyes. After my initial anger at being labelled a senior I asked what does this get me. He told my food discounts and entrance into free slot tournies held on Wednesdays. Ok I dont mind being a senior as long as there is some benefit. On the way out the dam we stopped and hiked around Black and Red mountians which are located in Boulder City with nice views of the lake. Very cool mountain biking set up in this area as well as a Zip line. Suprisingly cool place. We then went to the dam and parked in the lot for the bridge and walked across it. Great view of the dam. Dont look down from the central aspect of the bridge as it is a long ways down to the water. We decided to find a sports bar to watch the flyers hockey game. We went to Venetian and watched at Emerils sports bar and bet on the game. We did win this bet and that was fun. We lost on the Phillies after this however. Back to Southpoint where we watched the rest of the baseball game in one of the bars with a milllion tvs by the deli.
Day 4: Breakfast at southpoint (2 for 1), Went to GVR to play in my over 50 slot tournie. Just missed the required minimum to win a few dollars. We then drove up to Mt Charleston. This is my favorite place. The wonderful smell of the trees with the incredible views of the mountain and valley are amazing. If you have not taken the time to visit this area I would highly recommend it. Still too snowy to hike so we took some pictures. Great little spot for food up there with a view of the valley from the deck. Burgers smelled great. We then went to Mirage for Buffet early dinner. Used the 2 for 1. I remember this buffet as being much better than it was this year. Shrimp and dessert were good . Everything else marginal with a limited choice at each station. Dissapointing. We went to LV Hilton to get my buddy a players card and to put some money through a machine so they will start sending him offers. We played the Wizard of Oz machine which is my favorite. We hit a 50 dollars spin when the good witch came out and gave us wild cards in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th reels. We hit multiple other smaller bonuses and cashed out with 70 dollars from our original 20. What fun.
I have to take a moment to discuss a gaming experience I had in 2 casinos. At the Mirage I played a 1 dollar multi hand BJ machine. 7 hands played at once vs the dealer. I played about 8 hands and lost 42 dollars. The dealer had no hand less than 19 and never broke even though there wa a 14,15,15 and 16 during the play. The last hand I had 5 dollars left and I put in the 2 dollars required to play the hand. I turned to my frient who I was trying to teach BJ and told him I was 100 percent sure that the dealer would have a BJ on this hand. Shockingly there it was. At LV Hilton I saw the same machine in a 25 cent mode and I wanted to see if it was me or the machine. Exact same thing happened. Now I know these things should not be fixed but boy these hands were very suspicious. Needless to say after losing 50 bucks in these crappy machines I will never play them again.
We went back to Southpoint checked out watched some Basketball and went to the airport. Red eye home on US air. Good flight. This will be the last red eye for me as it took me 2 days to catch up on the sleep and feel normal again.
Played a lot of low stake Pai gow at Soutpoint and had a lot of fun. Ended up losing 100 bucks for the trip. Funny thing the slots I lose at in my home casino I lose at in Vegas. Stupid Penguin game and a win it again game with gems. Horrible games in Vegas and Pennsylvania.
