Although I didn't fare well in the gaming department, I fell in love with New Orleans (NOLA), the architecture, food, and people. Parts of the city reminded me of San Francisco without the hills, while others reminded me of strolling through shopping areas of Guadalajara Mexico. Although I didn't get to the botanical and sculpture gardens at City Park, or many of the restaurants on my list, I covered lots of territory in 3 days.
A friend asked what I was trying to cover while in New Orleans . . .
My reply.
I tried answering this while on my phone yesterday and it didn't work. What am I trying to cover? I was going to say a 7 martini day . . . since the effects have passed, that doesn't sound as funny now. Smile
I rode the St. Charles Ave streetcar, explored the Garden District, and enjoyed an amazing lunch at Commander's Palace (martinis 1, 2, and 3). Later that day, I rode the other trolley along the river and back then visited the Riverwalk Mall. Around 8, I went to the Palm room where Jimmie, the bartender, took very good care of me. I planned to make it an early night. 4 hours later and $400 poorer, I went to bed at 2 am.
Yesterday, I attempted to go to Mothers, line was too long, attempted to have breakfast at Cafe Adelaide, they stop serving (breakfast) at 10:00. Hostess said her fav place for breakfast is Stanleys and they serve breakfast all day. In my search for something simple, eggs and toast, I settled on (calorie free) bananas foster french toast. It was rich, flavorful, and so rich I couldn't finish. I then found my way to Royal St and enjoyed visiting the shops.
I'm staying at the Harrahs hotel, 24th floor, river view room. My flight arrived 3 hours late Monday and am grateful they saved this nice room for me.
K arrived and we had welcoming bubbly at Mannings. Because yesterday was my birthday, bartender only charged us for 1 round. Before going out and about yesterday, I won $12 and felt like I won a million, LOL. I introduced K to Jimmie and had my first muffaletta. Dinner was at Besh.
Today's agenda includes Cafe du Monde, lunch at Nola with friends driving in from Biloxi, French Market, my first hurricane at Jean Lafittes Blacksmith Shoppe, and exploring that area. In the late afternoon, I hope to ride the Canal Street streetcar.
My flight leaves way too early in the am and I'll say I've covered about 1/2 the things on my list. I know I'll be back.

Lunch at Nola

Casino had several old penny slots. While playing this old friend, I got 5 of the scatter symbols, a first for me. I won or broke even on slots and lost my A$$ on VP. Although VP hated my guts, it treated K very well.

I look forward to my next visit to NOLA and thank CET for 4 comped nights in the Harrahs Hotel.
