Friday January 10
It’s funny how your perception of the dealer changes whether you’re winning or not. Last night at the Golden Nugget I thought that break in dealer was “cute” for making mistakes or dealing slow and I’m sure I thought that because I was doing well. Contrast that with the mean, sadistic dealers who all but cleaned me out at Hooters, Bellagio and Luxor.
Ken’s loud snoring woke me up at 6:30am. Not being able to go back to sleep, I get cleaned up and head down to gamble a bit. I lose a bunch on a “Quick Hit” slot machine and almost lose a bundle in the original “Goldfish” slot machine. With just $2.20 left in the machine (I had come down with $500) I hit the free spin bonus and get 20 free spins. It’s a good thing too since I hit the “Fish Food Bonus” within those free spins and earn a 3X multiplier. At the end of the free spins, I ended up with a total of $500.76. I’ll take a 76 cent win over a $500 loss any day.
The “Penguin” game at the Tropicana wasn’t too kind today and only gave up $12.00 on $25 of free slot play.
Well, it was time to try the More Buffet at Luxor using the Take 2 passes. We both agreed that the breakfast at the MGM Grand was much better.
Seeing as we both were up slightly, we decided to check out the Las Vegas Premium Outlets near Charleston.

Anyone know what this strange building is?
We spent a couple of hours here and I ended up buying some things for my wife and daughters. Afterwards, we headed to the Excalibur Round Table Buffet to have lunch. It certainly lived down to its reputation, and Ken hated it. I had some of the beef brisket and beef with broccoli and thought is wasn’t too bad.
After lunch, we gave Battlefield Vegas a call and they came and picked us up in a Humvee.

Hey, I wanted shotgun!

Battlefield Vegas is really first class all the way.
The whole experience beginning to end took about 2 and ½ hours. We couldn’t decide on a package so we rented the guns a la carte. For $300 in total, we each shot an AK-47, a different sniper rifle each, a Magnum 44, UZI and an M-60 belt fed machine gun.

The sights were slightly off on Ken's rifle.

Go ahead...make my day

Do you feel lucky punk?

AK-47. The very best there is. Accept no substitutes.

Mel Gibson...NOT.

If anyone out there enjoys shooting guns, I highly recommend Battlefield Vegas.
Overall, I was the better shot and won a $10 bet from Ken. We got a ride back to the MGM Grand from a part time employee was is going to college to become a surgical tech. She was trying to explain Obamacare to us, but we didn’t really get it. I guess we just take health care for granted in Canada.
Next stop was the LVH to check in. This offer included $100 in free play, which I decided to play in a “Cash Wizard: Tiki Magic” machine. Now, up to this point, I had played all my free slot play the same way. I usually play maximum lines for minimum bets in the hope of cashing out roughly the same amount as the free play. Well, for some reason I decided to play this $100 for max bets ($2.50 a spin.) Boy am I glad I did! I triggered the free spins bonus and ended up with locked wilds on the middle 3 columns with 4 spins left! Then, the fifth column locked up with wilds! I had 3 spins left with 4 wild reels! I was really expecting a HUGE payout, but as predicted, the first column never stopped on any high paying symbols. I was still ecstatic though because I had turned the $100 in free play in to $491!

My biggest free play score to date! Too bad, the screen changed as I shot this picture. I wanted to get a shot of the 4 wild reels.
We went up to the room at the LVH to cancel the maid service and earn the “Eco-fee”, which is now $8 instead of $10. Time for dinner.
We parked at Excalibur and walked to the Luxor to have their buffet dinner. Certainly edible, but really not on par with the buffets at the Mirage or the MGM Grand.

Overall what we thought of the Take 2 buffets.
After dinner we walked over to New York New York to see Zumanity. That place was packed! Actually, I don’t really know if it was really packed or not. I get the feeling that this place is sort of cramped with not a lot of open space so it seems a lot busier than it really is.

Ken couldn't believe there were table dancers in New York New York.
Now, I will have to say that I probably enjoyed Zumanity the least out of all the Cirque Du Soleil shows I’ve seen in Las Vegas. For what it’s worth, I thought Absinthe @ Caesars Palace was much better with that same sort of "risqué" theme.
After the show, Ken wanted to play some more poker so we headed over to the Venetian.

Random Strip shot
The Venetian and the Orleans are the only 2 casinos in town that deal an ongoing $4-$8 Omaha 8 high/low game. I settled in on that game while Ken sat in a $4-$8 limit Hold ’Em game. A few hours later, I was down $20 and Ken was up $150 so we decided to call it a night. I do like how the dealers here will automatically swipe your player’s card at the table when you sit down. I don’t think you can really afford a nice meal earning $1-$1.50 an hour in poker comps though.
Back at the MGM Grand, we were both asleep by 3:30am. This time I had saved some foam ear plugs from Battlefield Vegas in case Ken snored again.
After spending quite a bit of money today, my bankroll was up at $2600. With just about 2 days to go, I wondered if I should try and take it easy…
