My wife and I spent four days here during the first round of the NCAA tournament. Those games were in the downtown area (about 20mns from the hotel) so we stayed at Harrahs...our first time there. I'll summarize following:
1. Hotel has two towers...room was typical and had a view of the downtown area although, even at night, don't expect the expanse of lights and impressive sites of a larger city. Check-in went fast and we had no complaints about the room.
2. We weren't that optimistic about our odds at VP and the pay tables certainly supported that view. We did latch on two side by side triple play VP machines on the upper level (all VP is on the upper level) and made that our home base for the trip. It was 9/6 for quarter triple play and paid hansomely throughout the trip including a royal for me and multiple four aces...even a straight flush on the bottom line...twice. Very surprising results and we played alot more than we had intended since the primary purpose of the trip was basketball.
3. Even with that substancial play, they didn't comp anything off our bill since they since we had some many comp dollars in our account. Of course, we used those comp dollars at check-out but, I thought our play warranted a discount on our expeditures during the stay. Is this normal?
4. We had some table play and they certainly have a spirit of customer service as the dealers and staff were all friendly. At three card poker, my wife's first hand was two aces and they were matched by the dealer's two aces for a payout of 50:1 on her five dollar bet. Next hand she hit a full house on the six card bonus. A good time.
5. We ate at the Italian restaurant (can recommend as good) and the sports bar where we spent alot of time. The food was good there but, the service was very poor. Thiey have multiple televisions wtih all of the games showing (16 per day) so when we entered we wanted to sit in a spot where we could see the games we were most intetested in. Twice, the hostess seemed to want us only to sit in the next assigned space based on server so we had to pretty much beg to sit where we wanted to (two different hostesses). Each was somewhat snarky and definitely was the low point of the trip regarding customer service.
6. My wife made a side trip to the Ameristar casino which is nearby. One of the other drivers for this trip was the fact that he Harrah's in STL closed so we wanted to keep our cards active in the interim before our next trip to LV in September. In STL, we have accounts at the Ameristar so my wife took her card wtih her. The experience was fine but, she did find out that the card used at Ameristar in STL is not good to be used at the Ameristar in KC...pretty weird I thought. Anyway, the Ameristar is on the table to be purchased by another casino group so I quess it won't matter but, it never occurred to us that the card could not be used at each facility.
7. All in all a very good trip (not withstanding about 10 inches of snow...make note of covered parking in the garage). We managed to each have a pretty good sized win, entire stay was comped albeit from our bank of comps and the casino/hotel met our expectations. Other than the sports bar, no complaints and we would go back if we had the need to go to KC or if we need to pick up a point or two for the (hopefully) upcoming Harrah's annual promotion.
