WOW! I've really missed our chatting. I really enjoyed reading your last email and hearing about things.
I don't know where to start! That wallet recovery was REALLY lucky. I had a similar this past trip - I was in the hallway at Bellagio in front of Jean Phillpe and a souvenier shop.
My hubby, bro, and I just finished dinner at Sensei (yummy!) and were debating what was next. I was getting ready to dash with my bro to the video poker and I felt a soft touch to my hand - I look down and my purse is zipped wide open with my wallet straight on top. A young "kid" in an Adidas jacket says, "Sorry", and makes a u-tun and bee-lines into the souvenier shop. It all happened so fast, but I was seconds away from getting my wallet stolen, I'm sure.
So my trip started at the Four Seasons - a little creepy the way they hang on you - felt it at Valet and then when I checked in and the "checkling" comes around the front desk to hand you your keys.
It was a one-bedroom suite - spacious, nicely decorated, but I was a bit disappointed with the "goodies". The coffe maker was nice, but I really get a charge out of little toothe pastes and brushes and the likes. The soap brand was awesome - skin felt silky smooth as soon as I tried it. Loved the Verandah Restaurant even though it was a big disappointment when my hubby and I showed up for "tea" in the afternoon. Turns out it is only served if reservations are made ahead of time. I had a fabulous "chef's daily special" of a neato salad with grilled shrimp on top. My favorite part was the hot chocolate sampler - 3 small cups of very unique, rich different flavors.
Our first day in town was the last day of a "Restaurant Week" - fixed menu with some proceeds going to a local food bank. We had several great meals another trip with this, so we were glad to have at least one dinner. We picked Mixx on the top floor of Mandalay Bay, but it was booked solid (didn't forsee it would be a problem on a Sunday night). We headed to RM Seafood and had a fabulous dinner- crabcake app, seared scallops, and the best key lime pie. Room Service breakfast was fabulous - belgium waffles, Panetonne French toast and lots of fresh berries, yummmm
Gambling is kind of a blur. I mainly played 25 cent, 5 play. Funds go high and low so fast, it's hard to tell if you feel lucky or unlucky. I held my own when all was said and done, but what a roller coaster! Where I play VP at MB, in the evenings I can hear a band playing 80's-90's music. It's been that way as long as I've been playing there. Van Hallen, Rick Springfield, etc - Just love it!
We didn't even need the room to sleep, but I got an offer for a Cosmo Room and had to see it. It was called a TERRACE STUDIO, 61st floor in the East Tower near the strip. It was the coolest little studio apartment PLUS a decent sized balcony looking up the Strip next to the Bellagio Fountains (my hubby says it was his favorite view ever). The room was SOOOOOO cool - you just wanted to hang there and then it was also filled with the coolest books to page through. I would pay for that room.
China Poblano is a really nifty restaurant downstairs. Menu is half Asian, half Mexican. We originally heard about their 20 Vegetable Fried Rice on the Food Network. It was fabulous - you order a bunch of small dishes and share.
The Bellagio was a bit of a let down. My offer said SUITE (of course it was pointed out to me that in small print it said IF AVAILABLE). VIP Services wouldn't upgrade me, but I at least checked in there and got keys that said VIP. Fountain View, so it was still nice. Ate a NOODLES once - very good, and Sensei - way cool - I just ate up the decor with all the natural rock. I can't get enough Jean Phillpe Pasteries. In 36 hours we easily blew through my $300 food credit.
I would love to stay in a Terrace Studio with that view at the Cosmo again (I don't think their standard rooms are as nice). My brother and I played a decent session there and both got slaughtered. I played there once before and got slaughtered - just wish my luck was better there.
RE/MAX hired Bare Naked Ladies for their closing night party. I LOVED them. They were soo fun. I'd pay to see them again. They had great repoire with the audience and you could tell they were a bunch of fun guys who really loved what they were doing.
I came out ahead due to a very lucky hit at Mandalay Bay - dealt ACes witha kicker on 5-play 25 cents, but tanked and gave a lot back at the Bellagio (and Cosmo).Even though I've had great luck (coming home a winner my last 4 trips to Vegas), the high stakes gambling is quite an emotional roller coaster - hundreds can get poured in at a session and then one good hand (or not) can make all the difference. Intoxicating and exhausting and some very disappointing sessions when I ask myself, "did I really just give them that much money?". I can stomach it better if I can just look at the bottom line at the end of the trip. Each time hubby asked how I did and how much I was up or down, it felt too much like real money, and not as much fun. Putting the cash right in the bank and right to bills that need paid immediately takes some of the high of winning, but I KNOW it beats the alternative. I am NOT complaining.
We didn't see any shows - my hubby's convention schedule was enough - we didn't want any more times to HAVE TO be somewhere. Each morning, he got up and drove my bro to work (yes, B. is really nice), and he or I got him "home" (usually B.). Good quality time with Bruce and Bro, lots of amazing food, and lots of gambling, and lots of pretty rooms - JUST HOW I LIKE IT.Coming home with extra money - WAY COOL.
It's been over a week since I worked. Gotta go get ready. I hope I remember what to do.
