10/21
So this little trip was for my sweeties (Cat) birthday and our friend Chuck tagged along. Cat and I flew in on Friday night, hit Alamo and we were headed downtown by 8:30. The first night we had two hotels and we parked at #1, the Golden Gate. I got an email with a free night so I booked it. I asked for a room on Fremont and got it. We were on the second floor looking over the G in "golden". It's a tiny room, but pretty cool. We look at the folks on Fremont for a while then head to MSS and dinner at the 777. Food was great but the service was slow.
After dinner we head to the Plaza for the second check in (paid $60 from triprez). We asked for a high floor and the gal at the counter said I think you'll like this room. We head to the south tower and all the way to the end of the hall, open the door and no bed! Score! The bed is in the other room, we got a suite! It's decided, we are sleeping at the Plaza. As everyone says the remodel is great, that joint really needed it. The room was cool it had 1.5 baths and a Cali king bed, very comfortable.
We head to the GG and grab some stuff for the evening and hang in the Plaza room until Cat gets sleepy. I went out to gamble!
First stop is MSS for VP and a few porters at the bar, I lost. Head to GN and play the deuces wild progressives, I've hit two $1100 royals on those in the past, but this time. Head to the GG and VP at the bar for a while after the third $20 I hit the LIR table. I'm doing pretty good for a while, doing the slow bleed that is so typical for LIR. I'm down to the last bit of my chips and I put it all on the table ($16 on the three bets $1 to the dealer, $5 in the 3 card bonus and $3 on the other bonus) and I get a straight! I cash in and head home to the plaza, goodnight.
10/22
Breakfast at the Hash House in the Plaza, I will never be disappointed with blackberry granola pancakes. Plaza checkout is at 11 so we head to the GG and check out at 12. Back in the rental and head to the go cart track.
I picked up a groupon for three races each for $40 and we had a blast. But after three 10 minute races we were exhausted. We leave go cart land and take Harmon to the Cosmo.
We are checked in immediately and given a wraparound on the 27th floor. They comped us the room because of some crappy room issues we had back in May and I am happy to report everything was great, no problems at all. As a matter of fact Cat liked it so much she wants to stay there again, soon...
Chuck's plane lands at 2:30 so we snag him at the airport and take him to Harrhas. He was booked under my TR for 4 nights free. We hang out for a bit and head over to SEA at Bally's for some food. This place is great, we liked it so much we ate here twice. So we head back to Cosmo and freshen up because Cat and I are going to Elton (tried to get Chuck a ticket but it was sold out). What a great show. We had cheap seats in the back, but we were way closer (and it was a cheaper ticket) than when we saw him in Austin over a year ago. I liked the addition of the strings and the backing singers, a great addition to an amazingly tight band.
We sneak out on the last tune (I cant stand that Lion King stuff) and we meet up with Chuck for a bit, but he is sleepy, so Cat and I head to Cosmo. She gets sleepy and I head to PHo. $100 in to the 50 play and after an hour I cash out $300. I take $200 and put it on the craps table and stayed there for the next 4 hours. I was betting way out of my comfort zone, $30 on both the 6 and 8 and $25 on the pass with odds, and all it did was go up. I cashed out up $800 in addition to the buy in. Nice way to end the night, oops it's 5:30 AM.
10/23
Cat wakes me up at 9 the next morning. I don't murder her because I love her and it's her birthday, but I feel like shit. We meet Chuck at the Sugar Factory for breakfast. I had red velvet pancakes and Chuck and Cat have a couple of different meals that are basically waffles with ice cream. Nice.
Cat and Chuck hit the mall and I hit some VP. I lost! After several hours we met up and bought the "all stage pass" and head to the Absinthe booth and get tickets. We head back to Cosmo and hit Wicked Spoon for Dinner! I love that place. Back to Absinthe and watch the show, not as good as when we saw it in May, but still great. I have a huge crush on Penny. I fall hard for "adorable idiots". After the show Chuck heads "home" and Cat heads "home" and I hit PHo. But for only an hour, I was in bed by 11. It's a Vegas miracle.
10/24
We gather our crap and check out of the Cosmo and head to our next hotel, IP. Both Cat and I want to stay in all of the strip and downtown properties and we are a little afraid the IP may not make it through the project link (I know it should be fine, but I didn't want to miss out if they decide to tear it all down). We park at Harrhas and Cat heads to Chucks room while I try to check in. I'm assigned a room but we can't check in yet. We all head to the Mirage and hit Cravings, they still had some of the breakfast stuff out!
Back to the IP and get the keys. We have a pool view and a balcony, but this ain't no Cosmo. But we knew what we were getting in to. We head to the IP ticket booth and pick up "Name That Tune" tickets. What a fun show! Both Cat and I got up on stage and Cat made it to the second round, but no $. Oh well, we had a lot of fun.
Back down to the ticket booth and pick up Human Nature tickets. Another nice show. The band was amazing, top notch in every aspect.
Here is where we split up, Cat and Chuck hit Frank Marino and I go see boobs at the Flamingo! They said Frank's show was great (they both love drag shows) and I kept trying to convince them they would have loved the talented young ladies as much as I did, they weren't buying...
After I got my ticket to "X" I hit the bar and played some DW for a bit. I hit 4 deuces (for 50 cents) and took my $500 to the show.
Back to the room and we hang out for a while, same as every other night, Chuck bed, Cat bed, Rice gamble!
Back to Flamingo, I hit quad 3s on ddb and I take that money to the high limit room. $100 in the $5 double diamond machine and I hold my own for a while. Up a little and I hit the two credit button and it gives me 777! An $800 hit! Cash out and loose $100 at the craps table, back to IP and loose $100 at the craps table. Bed.
10/25
Up and out of the room by 11. Store our stuff in Chucks room (we always leave on the 7:00 pm direct flight home so we book an extra night so we aren't stuck in the casino all day). The day before I booked a straight razor shave and it turns out it's a a fancy salon (Kim Vo at Mirage) Both Cat and Chuck are hair dressers so they are very interested in seeing the salon. They were not disappointed.
My beard grows thick and heavy and I hate it. Cat loves it when I don't shave so for one of her birthday presents I let it grow the entire trip. It was nasty and I knew I'd be screwed trying to get it off by myself, so I got the shave. It was incredible. It took about an hour and he shaved me twice and used about 20 towels on me. It was worth every penny of the $100 I paid (tip included, the base price is $75) and I'll do it again.
We drive to Bally's and eat at SEA again. For our last show we hit The Price is Right! We have wanted to see it for a long time but it never worked out. None of us got picked to play, but we had a great time and I'd do it again. The three of us thought the All Stage Pass was worth it. For $110ish we saw 5 shows and save a little more than 60% if we paid full price, one hell of a bad deal.
I did a little playing before the show and I noticed I had about 180 points to hit CET platinum so Cat and Chuck headed back to home base and I hit some vp. After a half hour or so, I made enough points and got a fancy new card at the players club. I kinda felt like an ass skipping over the folks waiting in "the regular" line, but it was nice gettin in and out.
I walked back to Harrhas and we hang out for a bit. Head to the rental car center, shuttle bus, and fly home.
Summary
We had a hell of a good time. I ended up down about $300 gambling wise and the shows cost us about $170 (the total cost was $328, but we paid off a lot with points).
We saw the Vegas Cops guys being filmed at Harrhas, no action just the main guy walking around.
It was Kim Kardashians birthday on the 22nd and the party was below us at the Marquee. When I headed out to gamble for the night I saw eight security guards wrestling a huge ape of a man out of the elevators. He was at least 6' 8" and he looked like a bull high on cocaine. He was in handcuffs and he was still giving the Cosmo security guys a hard time. Nuts!
Thanks for reading.
