Orleans "Ultra" Report ~ 7/24/12 ~ Day 7

Thank you for your report and all of the details. I really enjoyed your writing style and the pictures.
Thanks! We do the low roller thing every year (usually twice a year). We do many of the same things you do, but we ALWAYS rent a car - I've only been on a shuttle or a bus in LV between the airport and the car rental facility. With a car (really cheap in LV) you never have to wait - time for a lot more of whatever you want to do. You also can spend a lot of time away from the strip where the gambling odds are better, the food is cheaper, the streets are less crowded and even the sun seems less hot!

The other difference we have is that I wouldn't be caught dead with a Michelob Ultra! When the drinks are free, I will always opt for a micro brew or if not available, a Sam Adams or even a Blue Moon. My wife is a bloody mary girl or white russian when she's feeling like something different.

Great reports - thanks again.

Roy
Thanks again for the great comments everyone. I appreciate the positive feedback...except for the assclown who hates Mich Ultra (joking)

I'll quickly address our decision to avoid a rental car. We tossed the idea around this year; however, three years ago we had a rental car for our five day trip. Although we used it one day to visit Hoover Dam and Summerlin (Red Rock - Rampart - Suncoast) it basically sat parked in the hotel garage for most of the five days, and here's why: 1) if you haven't noticed, we tend to drink over the limit while in Vegas - using our feet and public transpo means we don't have to choose between drinking and driving 2) I know I bitched about the SDX a bit this TR, but we somewhat enjoy the shuttles and buses. Their charm may wear off after a few more years, but for now, we like meeting people, looking out the window, and not having to worry about crazy vegas drivers on the roads 3) we very much enjoy walking as much as possible - even in the heat - it offsets all the beer and buffet calories (somewhat) and I'm afraid given the extreme convenience of a car, we'd definitely walk less.

That being said, I've heard great things about Silverton, South Point, and other Stations properties. I'd very much like to visit them in the future, so it's likely we'll go that route next time.

Until then...I'll keep racing my mini-van around town, pretending I'm the Gold Coast shuttle driver, and giving my kids dirty looks when they don't tip...
Wish you had stayed longer so there would be more reports to read! Too funny...I thoroughly enjoyed each day, and know what you mean about getting to the end and thinking that the trip was just long enough. That is, untill you got home I bet, and started thinking about your next adventure in Las Vegas. Thanks for writing.
