Part 3 of 3 - December Trip Report - Mostly Off Strip

Friday, Dec 17

Started the day out with a lunch buffet at Cravings at the Mirage. Nothing really out of the ordinary, typical Vegas buffet. Their deserts weren't the greatest, but here's a picture of a couple of interesting ones, including one that reminded me of the Luxor...

Took a cab from the Mirage over to Terrible's. I had to try out the $100 Loss rebate coupon. I messed up though and also used a $5 free play coupon. Started out using the freeplay and cashed that out for $6.75. Then I put $100 in and played for a couple of hours, give or take on video poker. I was playing a couple of different games back and forth. Played a quarter machine at max 5 coin bet. Ended up playing just south of $700 through the machine before losing my $100. Got about 6 Coronas during my play, very enjoyable couple of hours.

Went back to the player's club booth to have them add the $100 onto my card. They said I was only showing a $94 loss and asked me if I had cashed any of it out, I told them I played the entire $100 through. I guess I messed up by using the $5 free play coupon first. Oh well, they added $94 back onto my card. I Played that through, in the same fashion as the first $100 and had $98 even after playing the $94 through. So I cashed out. Both cashouts totalled $104.75, with $100 of my own money through, giving me a net profit of $4.75 and 7 comped Coronas. I also earned enough points to get a free 24 oz beer and a christmas ornament from the gift shop.

While I was playing video poker, my wife was across the casino playing Monopoly Big Event. She put $20 in and cashed out $140. I asked her how she did it and she told me she hit 100 free spins on her machine. Very nice.

Overall, we give Terribles a very favorable review. Definitely wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, but we enjoyed ourselves and will probably go back the next time we're in town.

Next up was Hard Rock. They had a promotion where 200 points got you a free Dispicable Me winter hat and a Dispicable me DVD or Blue Ray. Well, we played for a bit, but didn't come anywhere close to the 200 points we needed. My wife had already pleaded with the players club girl that she just NEEDED the hat and they gave her one.

We decided to eat at the Pink Taco. Ordered of course the Pink taco. It was pretty good, not great.

After playing, we checked out the casino a bit more and the shops. I got a picture taken with an Alice In Chains guitar. I should also note that this casino was a nice change from the rest because they were playing good rock music that I'm used to hearing. In the short time we were playing I heard among others, Korn, Alice In Chains and Godsmack (who I saw in concert in Bangor, Maine in October).

Next up we hopped on the Duece and headed for Freemont Street.

When we first got there, we took some pictures, checked out the big Christmas tree and waited for the next video show to start. I noticed a couple of impersonators so I got my picture with Dale Sr. and Charlie Chaplin, they were pretty cool guys.

After watching the 9 PM show on the Fremont Street Experience which was I believe the Doors, we headed into 4 Queens to play for awhile. I played forever on my $10 freeplay LVA coupon. We then went back outside for the 10 PM show and this time it was Queen. Went back inside 4 Queens and they were handing out $10 freeplay coupons. Waited only about 5 minutes in line at the players club and got my freeplay put on. Went back to the Dam Lumberjack Beavers machine and played forever on the $10 again. My wife was probably in Heaven because she was at a bank of Monopoly machines. Ran back outside at 11 and caught most of the next show, this time it was KISS and I'm not a very big fan so I didn't really care for it.

I ended up cashing out $16.14, while my wife cashed out $29.75. Headed over to Binions and had our picture taken with a million bucks. Pretty cool little feature and they give you a nice 8x10 of it free. I played some blackjack, lost my matchplay coupon hand. Played for about an hour or so and lost $60 and called it good.

Next up we went to the Golden Nugget. Played Monopoly Big Event with my wife. I wasn't hitting anything and decided I wasn't going to dump anymore money into the machine. I was at 0, but still had time left on my big event countdown. When it was down to about 10 seconds, the feature came up. After the bonus I was able to cash out at $25, so that was a nice ending!

Got back to Imperial Palace around 3 AM. Wife was almost puking drunk. Vegas!

Saturday, Dec 18

Well, here it was, our last full day in Vegas. Hated to see this day arrive! We started the day by taking a free shuttle over to the Gold Coast. We walked around Gold Coast, Palms and the Rio. Took some pictures, bought a few shot glasses and then we were planning on hitting the Rio buffet for lunch. The line was ridiculously long and even though we had a 2 for 1 coupon, decided to head back to the strip and see if we had better luck over there.

When we got back to the strip, we walked through the Paris and decided to head to Planet Hollywood and try their buffet. After about an hour wait in line, we finally got to eat. You see, we had gotten so used to Vegas being dead all week that we didn't realize Vegas had woken back up and there were crowds everywhere. All week long we had no wait at any buffets. Should have just stuck out the wait at the Rio, but you live and learn!

Got some cool pictures with the cloudy sky as a background. 95% of my pictures from our two Vegas trips are nothing but blue skies of course. Well, the last couple of days of our trip it was overcast and rainy, so everything looked kind of different. I especially liked the shot of City Center.

After eating at PH, we headed down the strip to Riviera and Circus Circus while our bus passes were still good. Played some Monopoly slots at Riviera and took our pictures with the bronze butts statue. Went to Circus Circus and ended up at Slots A Fun to play for awhile. I played some blackjack on a really worn out table. This joint was DEAD and OLD!

Had some luck at Riviera. Kept putting a $5 bill in and would cash out every time I got up a few bucks and repeat.

That Corona was my water for the week!

Went back down to see the fountains of the Bellagio and the Mirage Volcano.

And that was about it .. we headed back to the hotel to pack and get ready to depart for Maine the next morning.

Until next time .....
I love the photos.
Thanks for posting, I enjoyed reading your reports!

Thanks also for tip on the Mirage Buffet, my husband just asked me about that one last night.
An excellent report! So many great pictures and it looks like you and your wife had a great time and saw almost everything there is to see!

After seeing your report, I'm starting to get excited for the WSOP again this summer. Like you, I may bring my wife and enter her into the ladies event on July 1.

Thanks for writing!

Super report!! The pictures add a lot to the report!!
Thanks for posting the finale of your report as well as for the great photos which really added a lot to your report!

Your Terrible's photo confirms what I had told the group that there was a Rebel Gas Station across the street from Terribles (this is for Boyd-Coasts BConnected members if they are still offering a discount on gas by swiping the BConnected card).

I do like the lights and music shows on Fremont (most especially The Doors) and thanks for letting me know about Four Queens handing out $10 Freeplay coupons! That's good to know!
