Pre-Trip~Downtown & NLV~ Looking for Advice

Planning on staying 5 nights on the strip in July.

My 1st full day, I'd like to purchase the 24 bus pass and head downtown early morning w/DH...getting to the Golden Nugget for 2-4-1 breakfast buffet.

I'd like to take advantage of the Golden Gate MP and SP coupons; earn some Free Play at The "D", hit Vegas club for $5 SP and MP, Four Queens SP, and ending up at El Co for free SP and dinner at The Flame.

Question: is it practical to try and squeeze in a N. Las Vegas coupon run between downtown breakfast and dinner that day? I've never been to any of the establishments north of Freemont, but DH and I would be new club sign-ups and I have MP/SP coupons for: Jerry's Nugget, Silver Nugget, Bighorn, and Lucky Club.

I assume my bus pass will get me up there, but I don't know how close together (walking distance) these places are to each other? What about safety? If they're far apart, smoky, unsafe, and generally not worth my while to check out, I'm fine skipping them. I do however, like to expand my horizons during every Vegas trip, so if this is doable, I may try it for the experience.

Your thoughts?
I have taken the bus to Jerry's Nugget and the Silver Nugget once in awhile. I have yet to go to the Bighorn or the Lucky Club. The bus stops are close to both of these casinos, but I wouldn't walk to one or the other during the day. Take the bus!
We love a good coupon run also, so I know what you're thinking.

I haven't tried visiting the NLV casinos via bus. We always rent a car.

If you had a car, I'd say 'GO FOR IT' but by bus, I'm really not sure it's worth your time and effort.

Don't forget that you can play your WESTERN ACG matchplay coupon at the Plaza (or LVC - but not on same day as LVC coupons) while you are doing your downtown coupon run.

I would recommend just enjoying your time downtown and not bothering with the NLV casinos until you have a car.

These are MY OPINIONS on these 4 casinos, YMMV:

Jerry's Nugget - nice, clean, friendly employees.

Silver Nugget - not quite as nice or clean, friendly employees.

Lucky Club - even less nice and less clean, meh employees.

Bighorn - meh on all 3 points.

Jerry's and Silver Nuggets are not too far apart, but I wouldn't walk it. Lucky Club and Bighorn are NOT nearby at all.

The value of the coupons just doesn't justify the time spent bussing it.

Feel free to PM me if you'd like more info.
Well I have no experience of going to the casinos in NLV, but I do think that FFlowers has been there at least on a coupon run and so maybe she can help you with that!

You might go to the Search function within these message boards and type in her name and see what you find. I do seem to remember that she did post something about going to NLV.

Well, thank you. Good info to have - I sure appreciate it! Also, thanks for letting me know about the Western coupon. I did not know I'd be able to redeem it at Plaza. Cool.
Most of these new coupons are just not worth the time, unless it's to a place you've never been and want to say you've been there, done that. You're talking a few bucks and hour return. I didn't come to Vegas to work for pennies-I came to win the Megabucks, which seems about due. Anyone else notice that the Meg seems to grow much slower than it used to?

I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that people now tend to have less disposable income than before to spend on any kind of gaming including this kind of thing!

Not worth the time for a few $5 bets when doing it by bus. Don't bother. Vacation is not to be spent in dumpsters...which is what the day will be like for you.
If you have a car, you can hit and run these places in about 1 1/2 hours. I do the entire book in a 2 day run with a car. You usually make enough to cover the price of the car rental and gas for a few days. It's a win-win scenario if you put the winnings aside and DON'T GAMBLE THEM AWAY. They are your car rental and gas money only.

I agree with the other posters - don't bother with the North Las Vegas casinos - they're dumpy.

We always get a car - and still won't go to these holes.

Also, don't expect too much from the Golden Nugget buffet. It's pretty lousy & limited. Better buffet choice would be Main St. Station - even without a coupon.

I've no problem going 'ghetto'; don't mind the dumpster diving one bit (and multiply that by 2 because I drag my husband around w/me). We each have an ACG book which means between Jerry's Nugget, Bighorn and Lucky Club, we're looking at $60 in MP's (plus a few FREE draft beers). I'm a bit curious about these dumps - so we'll see. Plus, we're new card sign ups which may mean a deck of cards apiece....bah ha ha!
