Quick LV Trip, June 29-July 1st

Wife and I stayed in a comped room at the Westgate, Sunday, June 29 and 30th.

Sunday, 6/29

After a 3 hour drive we headed to Olive Garden on Flamingo.  Great lunch and service.  Wife had chicken parm and I had the fettuccine Alfredo.  Went to the Albertsons across the street for some water before heading to the Westgate.  1pm and they had a room ready for us.   I went and made reservation for Benihanas for 6:30.

We burned through our freeplay on various slots,  and then decided to play some VP at the International Bar near the front entrance to the Westgate.  DDB VP for about 4 hours.  Plenty of drinks, people watching and talking with the bartenders.  Down a couple hundred.

Dinner was great.  Wife had filet mignon and chicken. I had new york strip and chicken.   We also splurged on a few of their blended drinks.  Dinner was about $200, but we had $50 each in food comps and charged the rest to the room.

Played some more slots with no big wins and finished the night at the International Bar for some more drinks and VP.  Again, down a few hundred.

Worst part of the trip was that the thermostat in our room didn't work right.  When we got back to the room it was very cold.  Thermostat showed 70 degrees.   Nope!  Hella cold.  Turned it up in temp, but no change.  Ended up turning it off and by morning room was fine. Wife mentioned this at check out.

Monday,  June 30

Went to breakfast at Tuscany Casino (Marilyn's Cafe) and to use our free play.  Wife had chicken breast and eggs while I had the sausage omelette.   This is a great place with fantastic food and wonderful service.  No luck with the freeplay,  but wife did well on the slots as we took advantage of 10x points day.   I was down, but went to the bar and hit for dueces on DDB for $200.  Had a couple beers and watched some games.

Went back to the Westgate for some play on 5x day there.   Played for a few hours and then went down to the sportsbook bar and deli for a late lunch. We shared the chicken strip and fries and an order of garlic knots. Charged it to the room. Wife went upstairs to rest.  While she was resting,  I played some of the firecracker slots and VP at the International Bar.  Hit another 4 deuces on DDB for $200, and had some good hits on the slots, but no handpays.  Making a comeback!

My sister in law and a friend came to the Westgate at 7 to hang out for awhile.  Wife,  sister in law, and her friend played BJ for a couple hours.  Wife was even,  the others lost a few hundred. I on the other hand was getting some lucky hits on the Goldfish slot and Huff and Puff. I was up about 4 hundred,  which I gave my wife to hold,  so I wouldn't spend it.   Good idea.

After the ladies left,  wife and I played some slots with no luck.  Each lost about two hundred.  We allot ourselves $200 per session, and when it's gone, we're done.

Tuesday,  July 1st

Heading out today, but we first used our freeplay that resets each month at the Westgate.  I ended up with almost $90 in my pocket,  while wife cashed in just over $180 after getting a bonus on the Mo Mo Mo Mummy slot. Yes!

After checking out and paying our room charges of about $130, we headed to the Tuscany for breakfast (same order as the day before), and play the FP that had also reset.  I made $12, while wife went nada.

Postscript:  While driving back home my wife got a text from her host that he was comping the rest of our room charges.  Score!

Nice hearing back from the Host right away.   And I love those trips that cross over the Free Play reset.  Love the excellent eats!   Thanks, Edso.

Thanks for the report!

Good trip report!  I like the Westgate, pretty casual, more of a locals or downtown place versus a strip resort.  They have a small poker room I'll play in with cheap tournaments (with fairly terrible structure) but I've still done well in them, and they even have 'high hand' payouts for tournaments.  I think I won $30 FP for getting quads, which is unusual for a tournament.  I'll probably play there again later this month as its cheap, the parking for the poker room is easy (just use the sportsbook parking) and free if you have a players card!

What's the preferred blended drink?  I'll have one occasionally in the summer.

The drink was called the Haiku Colada.  It was a pina colada with some starberry swirl (puree), in it.  It was good.

Spoke with a security guard down by the Sportsbook on Monday and asked about the closed buffet and what they were going to do with it.  He didn't even know.  I mentioned how small the poker room was, (we were standing in front of it), when I was speaking with him, and if maybe they would use the buffet area to expand the poker room.  He said that wouldn't happen as the poker room now fits their needs and doesn't usually get too full.

If you go later this month, maybe you can update everyone on what they have done, or not done with that buffet space.  Wife and I will be going back at the end of August for their big slot tournament, so I'll also update any changes.

Will do.  We (5 of us) were there a few days for poker during March Madness, it was a zoo in the sportsbook but there was always free parking right outside the doors.  We really enjoyed playing poker and watching the games from in the poker room.  Nice setup, terrible poker structure, but cheap and fun.

Hi Edso.  If I can get my car repaired, I will be going towards the end of the month.  I would like to get down there before I have additional knee surgery during the first week of August.  I'll keep you posted.  Take care.

Thanks, Robert.  I hope you get to make the trip and good luck with the knee surgery.
